Miguel Cabrera.

Granted, Abreu is having the better hitting performance between the two. But Cabrera is the more complete overall player. Cabrera is hitting .275, 147 H,65 R, 8 HR's, 71 RBI's, .328 OBP, .721 OPS, 13 SB's.

And then Cabrera is incredible in the OF. When Johnny Damon has been injured, Cabrera was stuck in CF and in the lineup and has done wonders for Torre. He has a Fielding Percentage in CF of .989, only 4 Errors, and a whopping 14 Assists. (16 Total) You've probably seen Cabrera use his cannon for an arm to gun down baserunners.

Cabrera is having a solid year at the plate while hitting at the bottom of the mighty Yankee lineup, and is doing wonders for the Yanks with his more than reliable fielding. I'll give the overall nod to Cabrera.

This isn't just about hitting numbers.

Melky Cabrera is doing a fine job at the dish, but he is much more valuable to the Yankees due to his overall play.

Cabrera's play has been vital to the Yankees. In July and August while the Yanks were making that comeback in the AL East Standings Cabrera was hitting in the high .300's. Doing his part at the bottom of the lineup.

Then due to the injuries to both Damon and Matsui, his play in the OF has been magnified. You seem him countless times during the season on Web Gem's gunning down baserunners, saving runs, and making big catches.

Bobby Abreu isn't exactly a Mellky Cabrera caliber fielder at this point in his career.

Having Cabrera do such a fine job at the plate, and then in the field while the Yanks has been huge for that team.

Yes, Cabrera has not nearly had the offensive production as Abreu has, but his importance goes beyond that. I've already made that point.

Case and point, Cabrera has done a great job for the Yankees both at the plate and in the OF. Torre must be thankful for his contributions. The team really needed somebody like Melky to step up when they got out of the All Star break, trying to dig their way out of a hole. And he did.

Which kind of pains me to say seeing how I'm a Red Sox fan.
