They needed a solid backup QB to starter Michael Vick to play when he gets hurt and misses some games.
Vince Young won two of his three starts against the Eagles??? division opponents, completed 59.6% of his passes for 152ypg, 8.0ypa, threw three touchdowns against no interceptions with a 102.7 Passer Rating.
Not to mention the Eagles already have a reclamation project in Vick. Not too many teams were interested in bringing him to their team with his history of problems. But Andy Reid and his staff were able to work with Vick and he has turned his life and career around.
LETS THROWDOWN AND BRING IT!!!!

They needed a solid backup QB to starter Michael Vick to play when he gets hurt and misses some games. Someone they can count on to come in with a cool head and not lose the games. Vince Young is anything but that guy.
Vince Young has taken himself off the field due to poor play. He has threatened suicide due to poor play. He has gestured his home crowd for being booed due to poor play. He has thrown his equipment into the crowd due to being booed for his poor play. He has walked out on a team meeting for being lectured due to poor play.
If he thinks Nashville is tough wait till he gets a taste of the Philly fans. Philly fans who expect to win now.
The only thing VY has going for him is his record as a starter. He has displayed no leadership ability or ability to be a quality QB in the NFL. The Titans had dominant defenses. His career passer rating is under 76. Under 58% career completion percentage. However the telling stat is the 42/42 td/int ratio. That is not good. In short, the Titans won a lot of games without many points on the board.
Oh yea, guess whos words these are, "dream team". You guessed it, Vince Young. Unwanted pressure anyone?

So nobody deserves a 2nd chance with a new team? Ha. That is pretty funny. We live in such an unforgiving society that if you struggle in one place you cannot play anywhere?
I disagree and think Young was an excellent choice. He is very similar to Vick in his ability to scramble and make plays with his feet. And I already mentioned how Vick improved his completion %.
"Someone they can count on to come in with a cool head and not lose the games. Vince Young is anything but that guy."
Unless Vick gets hurt the first or second game of the year he will have time to learn the playbook.
Young's stats last year?
He completed 59.6% of his passes for 139.6ypg (just 17.3 passes per game though) 8.0ypa (a much better stat to judge a passer on), 10 TD's to just 3 INT's and a 98.6 Passer Rating
3 INT's in 156 passes is very good. When he played last year he showed a much better ability to read a defense and make adjustments.
"If he thinks Nashville is tough wait till he gets a taste of the Philly fans. Philly fans who expect to win now."
Eagles fans are tougher than Falcons fans.
But Vick did pretty well, didn't he?

Its like this. In the NFL you dont get second chances to make the throw. If a receiver has 2 steps on a slant on 3rd down and 6 that is the 1 chance. You dont get that chance everytime. Were talkin routine play, you called it right, the receiver beat the D, all you gotta do is hit an 8 yard slant. That play could be the difference in the game. You have to make that throw 100 out of 100 times. Vince Young does not make that throw 60 out of 100 times. He never will. He shot puts the ball, he is completely unwilling to work with coaching on his motion. He is however quick to throw a fit when he misses the throw and gets booed. As a native Tennessean and Titans fan I have had to endure this scenario too many times. The Titans gave up as should all fans. The Titans won despite VY, not because of him.
Comparing VY to MV is unwarranted. Vick has a beautiful pass motion. Noone has ever disputed Vicks ability to pass the football. In the senior skills challenge, Vince couldnt even get a long throw within the boundries to get a score.
Vince is so limited in his passing ability and mental toughness the playbook is of no meaning.
Vick played well in Philly. VY wont.
DJRoxalot said 08/09, 12:52 PM
Second chance at resurrecting his career. Sometimes you just need a change of scenery to put things in perspective. And VY is in the perfect place for him to rebound and be a success story.
"Comparing VY to MV is unwarranted."
So Vick and VY are not comparable?
Both are athletic QB's who can male plays with their legs when the WR's are not open.
"Vick has a beautiful pass motion. Noone has ever disputed Vicks ability to pass the football. In the senior skills challenge, Vince couldnt even get a long throw within boundaries to get a score."
They both were inaccurate QB's that need some help.
Career completion %:
Vince Young, 57.9%
Vick, 55.3% (after completing 62.6% last season)
Give VY some better options at WR and his % will rise. Andy Reid and his staff are very good at grooming and mentoring young QB's or troubled QB's that need some help in becoming a better QB.
How do you know VY is unwilling to work with coaches after his time in Tennessee? Sounds like a pissed off Titans fan to me.
He now has a chance to rebound from his time in Tennessee on a team that has made some awesome signings in the offseason.

Your comparison has 1 Stat. I am simply talking about the players themselves. Vick throws a pretty ball. Vince does not. Am I to assume that every QB who can run falls into one group? That they all have the exact same potential?
Scenery and boyhood dreams aside, Vince cant throw the football at an NFL level. Never could and never will.
Not only that he has:
1. Threatened suicide because he stinks.
2. Thrown equipment at his home fans because he stinks.
3. Walked out on his team because he stinks.
Have you ever even heard of a player taking themselves out of an NFL game because they are playing bad? Vince really did that.
I am saying this, If I am a Philly fan the last thing in the world I want to see is Vick Limping off and Vince walking on. That will not be a good scenario.
