By successful, I mean will he be a top tier QB like he was last season?

No.

First off, Vick is 31 and had a career year, like no other year he has ever had, at age 30. Not many QBs do that, and when they do, they don't repeat.

Prior to last season, Vick had never passed for 3000 yards before, never thrown more than 20 TD, he never completed over 57% of his passes, and to top it off only once had he had a QB rating over 80, and never over 82.

Last season was a clear outlier in his career, and he did it age 30.

Teams also didn't know how to game plan for Vick, he was like a rookie. But as video piled up on him, teams learned how to game plan for Vick.

In his final two games last season, Vick only completed 58.1% & 55.6% of his passes. He only threw 2 TD, put also threw 2 INT. His QB ratings were 74.1 & 79.9

Teams learned to rush him from the left late last season, and that is how to stop Vick. Vick will experience a sort-a sophomore slump.

Not to mention, the Eagles have a terrible O-line, and Vick will be running for his life.

Finally, although I don't put much stock in pre-season, Vick did go only 5/12 and threw 3 picks in a half against Pit.

Let's see what watching all of you, has taught me.
First things first - what are we discussing here?
"Will...Vick be successful this Year?" Compared to what? Prison?
(OK, TD lesson 1 - Stop trying [and failing] to ooze wit...you're wasting space, d!psh(t.)
"By successful, I mean will he be a top tier QB...like last season" Top tier. Well, what does he have to do to achieve this? Match his stats? I don't see him having a problem attaining that goal.
You???re right???Vick has never had numbers like he had last year.
But he???d had awfully close. ???never thrown more than 20 TD??? His last (full) season in the NFL - before hitting the ???pokey??? ??? Vick threw those 20 td???s, you mentioned. So that???s like back-to-back seasons (Vick years are like dog years) where he???s thrown 20, or more, td???s. And you forgot to mention something. He only threw 21, last year. Seems a little more within his range, now.
Speaking of his range. ???never passed for 3000 yards before??? Yeah, but he scrapped to it, @3018. Or, as I like to call it, 18 more yards than, Ryan Fitzpatrick.
And again, not completely out of his range. (???02, @2936).
These #'s are in Atlanta. Before it was cool. But, we'll get to that..

Lets talk about who will be protecting Vick this season, a man who has only ever played 16 games once.

At centre you have Jamaal Jackson, who has finished each of the last two seasons on IR, and only played 1 game last season, and is getting old at age 31.

Starting right tackle Winston Justice is on the PUP with a knee injury, and is unlikely to play this season, after finishing last season injured. His backups are Dunlap & Ryan Harris. Dunlap, has 5 starts in 3 seasons, and has given up 3 sacks in those 5 starts. King was also arrested this off-season. Ryan Harris has missed 13 games in the past two seasons. These are the men who will be protecting Vick's blindside.

Starting at right guard is a rookie.

Todd Herremans is starting at left guard, and has been battling injuries in his foot each of the last 3 seasons. Last season he ranked 28th in the NFL among guards according to PFF. Not too good.

Finally, the left tackle is Jason Peters, who is good when healthy, but did miss 3 (4 since he was injured early in one) games last season. He was also arrested this past off-season, and with Goodell's record, who knows if he will be suspended?

Forfeited Turn

.

Let's remember what we're talking about about here.

"Is Michael Vick going to be successful this year?"

NOT - "Is Uberdelphia going to eradicate the planet, as predicted?"

He does not have to win a Super Bowl to make this happen.

Michael Vick is a 4x Pro Bowler and a 2005 "Galloping Gobbler Award", winner.

Current NFL "benchmarks" for QB success, will never truly measure MV's value. That's why he was supposed to "redefine the position". How many "top-tier" QB's have run for 4630 yd's?

So, he's had more "success" (3PB's, made playoffs) on a franchise where Alge Crumpler (good, as he was) was his top target, than he'll have, in whatever it is, you want to call the monster in Philly?

Please.

I see the "The Big Alg"...and I raise you: D Jackson, J Maclin, S Smith, J Avant, L McCoy, R Brown, B Celek, and maybe Reid can get crafty with some "Double Barrel Shotgun" package, and throw "D-Team" cheerleader V Young in there, too.

At his apex of his game @ 31? Again, PLEASE, any fan worth their salt knows 30-35 is a QB's prime.

No O-line? Those are probably the best guys MV's ever had. He's not Manning. Comfy pocket? Not his..."forte"

I found this quote on ESPN in their NFC East blog:

"Michael Vick was lucky last season, as a high percentage of his potential interceptions weren't actually intercepted."

Does anyone know what stat they use and where they found it? Is it like most interceptions dropped?

I can't find out all the numbers because you need to be an insider.

Blogger? Technically, I suppose that is now true.

I just see it as occasionally throwing up into my keyboard.

Well - here I find myself in the unenviable position, of not only my first TD...but having to defend Vick (from the haters), and a Philadelphia Eagle (from myself).

Believe me, I want nothing more than to say ???What? Do you mean???can he not win another Super Bowl this year???? Yes. Game Over.

But that's not really what you're asking...and what fun is that? Should be interesting for me, at least.

@142-87-22, Argos, you're no "chump" - and that's one of the reasons I took this TD.

Fail.

Ok...lesson 2...don't write in Word.

Damn...I double failed, by trying to trim part of my arguement into the comment section.

@Loser

Is this the point where I raise the white flag?

Rookie mistakes, it happens to everyone. Won't count on your record, think of it as preseason.

August 22, 2011  12:53 PM ET

Very kind of you. Unfortunately it won't replace the "good" keyboard.

I'll tell you what, though, despite the utter cluster-&^(k that is my post...my respect for TD's just went to 11.

It's not easy to "rein it in", in the limited character format, is it?

Add some spaces and don't worry to much about the Spelling B-Queen.

August 22, 2011  02:31 PM ET

Everything I've read and seen points to a down season. PRESSURE doesn't have to come from a collapsing pocket. DOH!

August 22, 2011  03:20 PM ET

The preseason humbling Vick took last week pretty clearly ends all that Dream team garbage doesn't it ?

August 22, 2011  07:14 PM ET

He had one bad PRESEASON game.

Let's all overreact.

I said that he would suck this season before preseason started.

I don't like Vick. Never did, never will.
