Ryan Fitzpatrick is the most underrated QB in the NFL.

This will be tough to prove; a lot of people on FN probably don't even know who Ryan Fitzpatrick is.

Well, he's the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, and he's pretty damn decent too.

Let me show you his stats from last year:

57.8 completion percentage, exactly 3,000 yards passing, 23 touchdown passes, and a QB rating of 81.8

Not bad for a guy who most people know nothing about.

I'm willing to bet that amongst those who are faimiliar with him, there's quite a few people who think he shouldn't be starting for any NFL team.

Well in my opinion those people are misinformed.

Fitzpatrick didn't have the greatest numbers last year, but they were pretty good and that was while playing in a bad offense.

The Bills didn't run the ball well last year, finishing 18th in rushing. Nor could they score, finishing 28 in scoring, mainly because of the lack of a running game.

They only had 6 rushing TDs all season, worst in the League.

The ground game scared no one, but Fitzpatrick kept them in a lot of games.

And yet he gets no love, and a lot of fans don't think he's "starter quality".

He's extremely underrated.

Interesting that you chose Fitzpatrick. I wouldn't say he's undeserving of a starter spot, but I wouldn't call him underrated either.

You conveniently leave out a few things??? his 57.8% completion percentage puts him 27th in the NFL for QBs who played at least 10 games. That is very poor.

He did throw 23 touchdown passes. He also threw 15 interceptions. And his 81.8 QB Rating put him 22nd out of 31 qualifying QBs.

Call him underrated all you want, but I think Fitzpatrick is very appropriately rated as a mediocre starting NFL Quarterback.

I believe the most underrated QB in the NFL is Houston's Matt Schaub.

Playing for a consistently futile team in Houston really hurts Schaub's perception. In last year's ranking of the top NFL players, both Tony Romo and Donovan McNabb were ranked ahead of him. To me, that makes Schaub underrated.

His stats across the board are stellar: 63.6% completion, 4,370 yards,24 TD, 12 INT, and a 92.0 Rating.

That QB rating puts him ahead of guys with the last names Manning, Ryan, and Brees.

He's an elite QB playing on a terrible team. He often gets overlooked in the ranking of quarterbacks. The most underrated QB is Matt Schaub.

Matt Schaub has a 48 million dollar contract.

He's also been selected to the Pro Bowl.

Heck, even for fantasy football he's the 6th-8th QB taken on average.

The Texans have been a darkhorse contender in the minds of many experts and fans over the last couple seasons, mainly because people believe in the strength of the Texans' potent offense, led by Schaub.

Point is, Schaub isn't underrated at all.

NFL fans know all about him, as do NFL coaches.

He has a reputation as a prolific passer, and as someone who will always put up big numbers.

There's a reason people are constantly picking the Texans to make the playoffs, even when past history tells us that the Texans will disappoint once the season starts.

That reason is Matt Schaub.

People know he's a great QB, and people expect great things from him.

Fitzpatrick, on the other hand, is playing under a 3 year, $6.9 million contract.

This is a guy who no one would recognize if he walked into their living room.

Schaub is extremely well known and well respected, as he should be. He's rated pretty fairly as a top QB.

Fitzpatrick is much more underrated than Schaub.

I still can't understand why you're pushing Fitzpatrick so hard as underrated. I just cannot understand why anyone would consider him underrated. He's just plain bad.

Advancednflstats.com has some interesting numbers, and here's what they have for Fitz:
In 2010, Ryan Fitzpatrick had a WPA (win probability added) of -0.88. That means that, by himself, Fitzpatrick contributed to almost one full loss.

And his 57.8% completion rate was nice, but he only had an average of 4.7 yards per attempt. So it's not like he was making risky throws either.

And he was only sacked 23 times, so it's not like he was on his **** every game. He simply is not a good quarterback. Not underrated at all.

As for Schaub:

The reason I consider him underrated is 1) Because he is a great quarterback who is only considered good and 2) Schaub is NOT EVEN RANKED in the top 100 NFL players by nfl.com.

Ahead of him are the usual suspects (Brady, Manning, Rodgers, etc.) and Romo, McNabb, Roethlisberger, and Freeman.

Yet here is Matt Schaub, who had a 2.02 WPA, threw for almost 4,400 yards, and had the 9th best passer rating in the NFL (and no, I'm not putting much stock in it, but it's a fact).

I still can't understand why you're pushing Fitzpatrick so hard as underrated. I just cannot understand why anyone would consider him underrated. He's just plain bad.

I rest my case.

You say he's just plain bad?

Pretty much proves what I've been saying all along - Fitzpatrick is more underrated than Schaub.

No one would take credit away from Schaub.

Tons of people on FN and elsewhere consider him a top 10 QB, which I agree with.

He's rated fairly.

Fitzpatrick on the other hand, has a bad reputation, and therefore is more underrated than Schaub.

I'm going to repost your comment from your second argument, just for emphasis:

Who's underrated now???

Well, since you're basing your arguments on what you've heard and what you believe, I guess that's definitely a stronger case than mine, where I have provided hard statistics and facts.

Here's what I'm trying to say about Schaub:

I'm not saying anyone believes he isn't a great quarterback. But he deserves to be considered elite, in the same breath as the Bradys, Mannings, and Rodgers' of the NFL.

Why isn't he? Lack of playoff success. Why hasn't he had that? He plays for the Houston Texans.

It's clear that, statistically, Schaub is a top 10 quarterback. But honestly, if you were to choose a QB to base your franchise around, he would not be the top 6 or 7 QBs you'd take.

Yet he deserves to be right up there.

I won't throw out any more stats. That's clearly not working.

But since we're basing our arguments on what we believe, I believe this:

Ryan Fitzpatrick is universally viewed as a bad quarterback. He is a bad quarterback. He is not underrated Q.E.D.

Matt Schaub is universally viewed as a very good quarterback. He is a great quarterback. He is underrated.

That's all I got.

Tim Tebow. No one thought he would be able to secure the third string spot so early in the season.

Is Fitzpatrick underrated at all?I thought most people see him as a decent QB who has had ONE good season on a crappy team.

Most Underrated QB is obviously Rodgers. can you believe there are some people that think he is merely a man?
