Cedric Benson should not be suspended because of a misdemeanor assault charge that was issued during the offseason. He spent his time in jail and should be good to go. The law handled the situation so why should the NFL feel the need to do something about it. This is another one of Commissioner Goodell's random acts of unfair dictatorship that screws over another NFL player.

"Cedric Benson should not be suspended because of a misdemeanor assault charge that was issued during the offseason."

Cedric Benson comitted a crime and definitely got prosecuted to the extent that he shouldve been under the law. But sometimes thats not good enough and the NFL needs to intervene and not let their players run around acting like idiots. Its not like this is the 1st time Benson has gotten into trouble and Goodell needs to make a statement that numerous offenders of the law will not get off easy.

The so called "unfair dictatorship" is the farthest thing from that.

Goodell is easily the best commissioner in the history of the league and under him players have seem to responded well, atleast the ones that have sanity and not goofballs such as Pacman Jones and Cedric Benson

If Goodell and the NFL did not do anything about it, it would look bad on their part as there letting a criminal back onto the field due to his social status as a professinal athlete

Why didn't Mike Vick get suspended too? Why didn't Plaxico Burress get suspended? Goodell is unfair because he varies his punishments. Both of those guys did things much more serious than Benson and both did not receive a suspension from the league of any kind.
Kenny Britt has received no punishment for his actions. He had to incidents with police and has received no punishment for it. Why should Benson be any different?

its not letting me post my entire argument on here despite being under 1200 characters; sorry to all but please go to comment 44 to see it..

I see you didn't address the Kenny Britt matter and thats because you know i'm completely right about that. Who cares if Vick and Burress spent major jail time, that shouldn't get them off the hook if jail time didn't get Benson off the hook. Clearly if Vick and Burress received no discipline from the league neither should Benson. Also, you say he is a repeat offender. Britt committed TWO!!! felonies over the off season and has received no punishment. Why suspend Benson for a misdemeanor if your not going to suspend Vick Burress or Britt for serious offenses? It doesn't make sense!

No he shouldn't be but you didn't give the reason why I don't think he should be. Lets see how the arguments go.

Are you thinking lockout?

The lockout is pretty much why Kenny Britt didn't get suspended. Can't suspend someone for something that happened when they were technically not in the employ of the NFL. Well, you can, but it sets a dangerous precedent that could result in a lawsuit the league would not want to defend.

Actually, Benson still has some days to serve during the Bengals' week 10 bye...

Rozelle is by far the best commissioner in football, and arguably in all 4 sports. Goodall has done a decent job as commissioner. A little too heavy handed at times but that is fine. But he is the third best NFL commissioner since the merger. (There have only been two commissioners)

Bucky,it's sorta like that Floyd fight, only Benson was convicted of sucker punching his opponent, [and didn't get paid for it.] and may go too jail for it, either way, it's costing Benson.

You really aren't making a good comparison at all. Benson wasn't employed by the NFL at this time and shouldn't be subject to fines or suspensions. Plus this hurts my fantasy team.

He is way too inconsistent. Why wasn't Britt held accountable? He seems to pick on certain players but others get by with nothing.

Different story, entirely. TP used the supplemental draft to circumvent the suspension he was facing in the NCAA. He's lucky he was allowed to be in that position, as he could just as easily been made to wait the entire year. At least now he gets to practice with the team and spend time with them and the coaches.Tressel voluntarily suspended himself. Again, he is lucky that a team employed him.

All players that come to the supplement draft do so because something in college wouldn't allow them to play be it a suspension or academic. To suspend Pryor was again not right.

A lawsuit was what I think might happen. Benson isn't bright enough to think of that but I bet his agent is.
