The Indianapolis Colts are in trouble of not making the playoffs this season for the first time in 9 years .

The fans are getting restless and there is talk already about them being taken off primetime television games with an old , slow , unproductive Kerry Collins as their leader and not Peyton Manning .

Will the fans continue to support an inferior product ?

Will the fans jump ship until much needed changes are made ?

Is it too early to panic ?

Is it time to make some much needed changes ?

I say " IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE IN INDY ".

What do you say ?

Indy should thank GOD that they got Manning.
He gave them a decade of being a contender and got them a ring. It would have been nice if they had 2...but hey, most people never get the 1.

NOW they are going thru what the 49ers went thru and what miami went thru when Young and Marino left....they are going to suffer a bit. But its ok
It isnt the end of the world! Teams rebound, teams rebuild

the time for change was FIVE YEARS AGO!!!
They should have been looking for and grooming Manning's replacment.
Instead their backups were exposed as clipboard holders
And they had to go out and get papa smurf's stunt double to start QB

Matt Cassell, Ryan Fitzpatrick....both taken late rounds
or how about using an earlier pick on an Andy Dalton/Ryan Mallet/Kolb?
any would be better than sorgi/painter/old man river

***how many times did manning stay in a blowout game? THAT WAS TIME TO WORK AND EVALUATE YOUR BACKUPS!***

they might end up with the worst record and get to draft LUCK

The Colts should thank God they got Tony Dungy that's when their 9 playoff appearences started.
Manning is a good QB but he has not alway been good in the clutch.
Had it not been for Hayden's interception against the Patriots in the AFC championship game and Bob Sanders causing fumbles and creating havoc against the Bears in the 2007 Super Bowl.
If Bill Polian had drafted solid O line players, recievers, and running backs and sign a QB better than old Kerry Collins at the last minute knowing Peyton was hurt and would be out. Polian's best days are behind him he should be fired.
Look at his draft picks Addai, Gonzalez, Painter, Brown, on offense, Hughes, Morris Moala just to name a few on defense.
Outside of 1 good year what has Addai done and what impact has the rest of them had in the NFL their a BUST.
You say and I qoute " It's not the end of the world , teams rebound and rebuild " That's my argument it's time for a change it starts from the top down .
Jim Caldwell was given a SB caliber team when Tony Dungy left Indy like he left Gruden when he left Tampa Bay , Gruden won his , Caldwell lost his . Caldwell and his staff should be fired they are clueless .

The Saints were destined to win that game. Think about it , in the post katrina era...the "aints" went from being a horrible team with Aaron Brooks as qb...to getting Brees. They went from that idiot haslitt to the mad hatter of the nfl, sean payton.

And you cant say "the colts should have drafted this or that... nobody can predict the 1st rd busts of ryan leafa nd the 7th rd gems like tom brady. hindsight is 20/20
and they cant go back and redraft...so worrying about the past is pointless

and the colts had their share of the injury bug. look how the loss of bob sanders, a PLAYMAKER, affected them. you think pitt would be pitt w/o the hair in center field? how about the ravens w/o Ray Lewis. The loss of Sanders all those games hurt

now...you call for a "change now"
there isnt much they can do now. the biggest change they can make is let one of the backup QBs start. but that sends a CLEAR message that the 2011 season is DONE
collins gives them the best shot to win...even if its 2-3 games

rebuilding is a process
ask the lions!

i say run the course...maybe draft LUCK in 2012

Destiny my ass that on side kick to start the 2nd half recovered by the Saints was key because Caldwell did not prepare his team.
You said the Saints went from Haslett to Payton and won a SB.
You think the Colts could use a new coach, you think?
The Colts can go from Caldwell to Cowher a proven winner with the Steelers.
It's not about just past draft picks it's about being able to judge college talent to fill your teams needs and Polian is not a good judge of talent.
He scouted Hakim Nicks WR, Ziggy Hood DE,and Maurice PounceyC/G Colts fans hopes were high but he went into another direction.
These guys are impact players in the NFL.
You say the Colts have had their share of injuries all NFL teams do, that's no excuse look at the Green Bay Packers they were desimated with injuries last year and won the SB.
I say let Painter finish the season get one of the top picks in the draft at QB lure Cowher back as coach and hire a GM that can evaluate college talent.
Manning may not recover from nerve damage he is 35 and may have only a few good years left if he does recover.
You're right rebuilding is a process that must begin asap for the Colts. It's time for a change in Indy!

Forfeited Turn

They should have looked for Manning's replacement five years ago when he was 30 years old, had never missed a start and was one of the elite QBs in the game?

Panic? Long over due.

Naturally. You've got the 1st or 2nd best QB in the league, who has the 2nd longest consecutive games started streak, etc... and you find a replacement!!!!

My thoughts exactly. What is it with people wanting to "groom" a QB for years? It's not feasible in the NFL with a salary cap and QB being the highest paid position in the league. You just don't have the luxury of keeping a top backup on the roster for 4 or 5 years until your franchise QB hangs 'em up.

It worked out in Green Bay but nearly blew up in their face when old man Farve led them to a 13-3 record and the NFC Championship game in what was supposed to be his swan song in a down year and the team had no choice but to force him out anyhow because Rodgers couldn't/wouldn't wait anymore. It was ugly as it was, but would have been far worse had Rodgers not panned out...which is the case more often than not.

Who among that list has done anything in the NFL to make you think they could feasibly replace a legend in Indy? Cassel in particular hadn't started a football game of any kind since HIGH SCHOOL. Drafting him would have been no different from the guys they have. A project.

Even hindsight doesn't do much for your argument here.

nobody can replace a LEGEND....but teams have a responsibility to always have a DECENT #2 for that day which always comes... INDY wasnt ready......and now they rely on old man river... And FYI....if you dont think Indy would trade Collins for Fitzpatrick TODAY...you are smokin some good herb

Of course they would NOW. So what? They were supposed to know that Fitz was going to turn out pretty damn good? Obviously NOBODY did considering where he was drafted. Hindsight arguments are a complete waste of time.

When Rex Grossman and Tararis Jackson have starting jobs in the NFL it's clear there aren't enough DECENT #1's to go around, let alone #2's.

The Colts did this to themselves. I would be willing to guess that most teams had to use their back up for some reason or another in a season. To not have a reliable back up that can't come in and play is just irresponsible.

You should always be looking to groom a guy as if he was going to be starter. The Packers did this all the years they had Favre who we all know was as reliable as they come. From Mark Brunell to Matt Hassleback to Aaron Rodgers to Matt Flynn they have always been working with back ups as they might be the starter one day. You don't want guys who are just happy being the back up and have no drive to be the guy.

Grooming a QB for 5 years is just ridiculous. The only reason Rodgers does as good as he does is because they have a DEFENSE and a RUNNING GAME. The Colts are more of a one-dimensional team AKA Manning.

September 26, 2011  01:02 AM ET

Well, first off Painter did pretty good today for the amount of time he did play and he started to settle in. For never really taking a snap in his career even in practice he did pretty good. If he had as many snaps as Collins they could have came out on top against the Steelers.

Actually he has taken snaps before. He had 28 pass attempts coming into tonight's game. He'd only completed 8 of them. Had a 9.8 career QB rating.

'NEVER REALLY' is the key words. 28 attempts is not very many at all for two full years in the NFL. (Excluding this year of course.)He did not take one last year. It takes a while to get in the rhythm of the offense, especially when you come into a game in the middle of it and against the Steelers.

Why not? The Patriots had Matt Cassel on the bench hoping to high heaven he'd never see the field but did just fine when his name was called. The Colts problem isn't that they weren't grooming a backup, but that Manning made that offense look much better than it actually is so no matter who you threw in there was going to have problems. Just different philosophies. The Pats offense was built so that virtually anyone could step in and run it while the Colts offense was built solely to maximize the strengths and abilities of their franchise QB.

It's never to late and the time is now . Let Caldwell and Polian finish out the season and get rid of both of them neither one of them have a clue . Get the number 1 or 2 pick in the draft Andrew Luck or Kellen Moore for starters then get a GM that knows talent and pick some big strong defensive tackles , and big strong offensive linemen and linebackers , safeties and not these little 5'5 to 5'10 players for speed for starters . Nothing can be done about the pass the argument is not about the past it's about the future .

September 26, 2011  09:04 AM ET

My argument is , It is time for a change not about 5 , 6 , 7 , years ago I'm talking about after the end of this year . Bill Polian is not the genius some people think he is when it comes to evaluating talent just look at most of his draft picks .

He along with the rest of the organization knew that Peyton Manning had neck surgery and that he wouldn't be back at the start of the season . So they waited til the last minute to get a quarterback and you go out and sign a sorry ass old , slow Kerry Collins to lead your offense . What were they thinking ? My bad they weren't thinking to sign this guy to lead one of the top tier teams in the NFL . Now they would be better off letting Curtis Painter the clipboard carrier run the offense instead of Collins who like Polian , better days are behind him . Look at Collins performance in games this guy is throwing behind and over the heads of All-Pro reciever he dosen't have it . They should let painter play or eat the 4 million they are paying old man Collins and sign Garrard . I know at this point you might say it's too late for Garrard so let Painter finish the season and hope that the new coach and GM will sign get Luck or Moore in the draft because that's where KC , Indy , Minnesota , and Miami are heading . Polian has drafted too many small quick players on defense and too many big slow linemen on offense . The organization must begin to make changes now by allowing Painter who knows the offense to finish and make Collins his back-up . Then at the end of the season get rid of the deer stuck in headlights looking head coach , the poor evaluator of talent GM and his son don't leave him in Indy because as his fathers assistant he will be influenced by his father Bill , get rid of defensive coach Coyer as well as the special teams coach and start anew . This will be one of the worse seasons in Indy's history . The time for change for Indy fans is at the end of the year which gives the owner time to start looking for replacements now . New blood for a new day in Indy . What they should have did 5 years ago is done and it can't be undone the time for a change is now !
