Darren McFadden is the best RB in pro football.

He has carried the ball 75 times for 468 yards (6.2ypc) with 3 TD's. He is averaging 117ypg and has 17 1st Downs with 6 runs of 20 yards or longer.

He has 15 catches for 132 yards (8.8ypc). with 1 TD. He is averaging 33ypg, has 6 1st Downs and 101 YAC.

He is averaging 150 total ypg.

He is Oakland's MVP and has emerged the last season and 4 games as a true workhorse for the Raiders. Bringing back the tradition of Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson.

Adrian Peterson is still a very good player, but he doesn't catch the ball out of the backfield as well. He also averaged almost 2ypc less than D-Mac.

MJD is the same. He is a very good player, but his receptions have declined.

Disagree????

BRING IT!!!!

As of right now Matt Forte is the best RB in football.

He has 324 rushing yards at 5.4 yards a clip. His total number of yards is not the as high as it should be either. 2 of the 4 games this year he has received 10 or less carries. Not his fault that Martz clearly prefers to pass the ball. But Forte has not fumbled or committed a turnover this season. Run DMC has. Forte also only has 1 less 20+ run than Run DMC in fewer attempts. Both have big play capability.

But where Forte lacks in his rushing, he more than makes up for in the passing game. He has 26 Rec for 310 yards. That is 12 yards a catch. He also leads the league in YAC.

Both Forte and Run DMC have accounted for 23 first downs.

So for total yards Forte averages more yards per game, in fact he leads the league in yards from scrimmage at 158 and is much more of a dual threat. He is harder to game plan against and is harder to stop due to his true versatility.

No doubt Run DMC is Oakland's MVP at this time, but the same could be said of Forte for the Bears.

Edge Forte!!!

"He has 324 rushing yards at 5.4 yards a clip."

Consistency is key in the NFL.

Forte had 205 of those 324 yards yesterday in 1 game vs Carolina.

25 for 205 vs the Panthers, 31st vs the run.

9 carries for 2 yards vs the Packers. 0.2ypc? Seriously? D-Mac would be able to do a heck of a lot better.

10 carries for 49 yards vs the Saints.

16 carries for 68 yards vs the Falcons.

D-Mac?

14 carries for 75 yards vs the Pats.

19 carries for 171 yards vs the Jets. The same team that limited Ray Rice to 25 carries for 66 yards.

20 carries for 72 yards vs the Bills.

22 carries for 150 yards vs the Broncos.

"So for total yards Forte averages more yards per game, in fact he leads the league in yards from scrimmage at 158."

D-Mac is right there with him at 150. A RB's primary job is to run the ball. Would you rather have a RB that runs the ball or catches the ball? That's an easy answer.

Run the ball.

D-Mac is much more explosive than Forte. He doesn't get the targets Forte does because they run different offenses.

3 things I want to touch on.

"Would you rather have a RB that runs the ball or catches the ball?"

Trick question. I would rather a RB that can be efficient at both, most importantly I would like a RB that gains positive yardage however he can. And Forte gets more.

"He doesn't get the targets Forte does because they run different offenses."

I could easily say Forte doesn't get the touches Run DMC gets because they run different offenses.

Green Bay stopped the run and forced Jay Cutler to beat them. It was a game plan. A smart one. Being that Forte is more dangerous that Cutler and Cutler is known to turn the ball over. But even with Green Bay loading the box stopping the run Forte still manage 80+ yards of offense that game. He is dynamic.

You speak of Carolina's weak run D. Prior to the gashing forte did the Carolina they were a middle of the pack Run D. If you subtract the 224 rushing yards the bears put up (205 was forte) from the 575 they have given up then divide that number by 3 you get 117. Which is a pretty average rushing yards per game. What happened was Forte made the Panthers the 2nd worse run D. You just prop'd Forte by mistake here!!!

Cutler's job would be a lot easier if Forte was more consistent running the ball. 35 carries for 119 yards (3.4ypc) is not a good 3 game stretch. Even if it's against the Packers, Saints, and Falcons. 1 game boosted his average nearly 2ypc.

"But even with Green Bay loading the box stopping the run Forte still manage 80+ yards of offense that game. He is dynamic."

Maybe you missed it. 2 yards rushing against the run defense. Rookie RB Mark Ingram managed to carry it 13 times for 40 yards against the GB run defense. Another rookie Cam Newton managed 10 carries for 53 yards. That washed up old RB Willis McGahee? He had 15 carries for 103 yards.

Forte did manage 7 receptions for 80 yards, but GB is struggling against the pass. They are 31st in the League, allowing 336ypg. Plus 9 TD's in 4 games.

"You speak of Carolina's weak run D."

They were 19th. That is not good.

The bottom line is D-Mac is a better overall player than Forte. He is a much more consistent RB. He has not had game with less than 72 yards running the ball.

Forte has had 3 games under 72 yards and 1 epic failure of a game.

Let's look at things this way.

Run DMC 75 Rush attempts
Forte 26 Receptions

Both are the high in this comparison

If Forte had 75 rushing attempts for his current season average he would have 405 rushing yards.

If Run DMC had 26 receptions at his current season average he would have 228 reception yards.

So with an equal number of carries and receptions Run DMC and Fortes numbers would look like this.

Run DMC
468 rushing
228 Rec
696 total yards
Forte
405 rushing
310 Rec
715 total yards

Even if they had the exact amount of touches and receptions Forte has the edge. However this is not the case. Forte plays in an offense that does focus more on passing the ball. But when asked to run he does very well in doing so. 5.4 yards a rush is nothing to sneeze at. But when comparing Forte as a complete RB, one who is asked to be a receiver and a rusher he is having more of an impact and plays a larger role in the offense.

Forte leads the NFL in Total Yards
Forte leads the NFL in YAC
Forte leads all RBs in rec's and rec yards.

After 4 games Forte is the best RB in the league.

Me too.

Who are you gonna say DJ?

October 3, 2011  12:44 PM ET

Run DMC is what DJ will say. He is a Raiders fan. However he could make a hell of an argument and would not be laughable at this point. This is what I expect anyway

October 3, 2011  12:53 PM ET

Well DJ, you can't give others crap about non-argument TDs anymore.

October 3, 2011  01:50 PM ET

I do not know who to argue...

I want to make it interesting.

Forte, Rice and McCoy are the ones I am leaning towards.

I have faith in you, Rawk. You aren't exactly some clueless newb.

October 3, 2011  02:08 PM ET

I am looking forward to this one. I must admit my bias to Rum DMC before it starts

Go with Cam Newton or Michael Vick. Left includes catches so you can add passing as part of a RB's repertoire.
