There are a lot of good coaches out there, but for me it came down to two guys; Holmgren and Dungy. I picked Holmgrem. Holmgrem reminds me of my dad. He was a tough guy and would be tough on me, but I also knew he loved and cared for me. Thats how Holmgrems players view him and I base this on the interviews that I watch of the Seahawks players. Holmgrem will rip you a new one when you need it, but he treats you like a man. I can't stand coaches that treat their players like garbage (see Tom Coughlin) and the days of the iron fist are over. I don't think super "liberal" coaching works either though. I know Philips is kickin' but with Dallas but I think that passive style could catch up to him. All people need structure and boundries; letting players do whatever they want is no good.
This is also were I think Holmgren excels. Holmgren sometimes gets a little bit too cute with his play calling but he knows his football and has had a ton of success. His knowledge and people skills will bring more wins to Seattle.

Much as I hate to say it, I would have to go with Bill B. He takes misfits and malcontents like Corey Dillon and Randy Moss and not only turns them into team players, but revitalizes their whole career. No wonder players take pay cuts to go to New England.

You make a good point, but do you think you could get along with him? He is a pretty weird dude and is super arrogant. I can't be around people like that. On the other his success speaks for itself. If he did cheat like it is reported I would not to play for someone that lacked morales.
T-Fo's Las Vegas-style Show said 10/04, 04:32 PM
What I think was amazing was how all his players rallied around him in support after the scandal hit. I'm not sure why, but his team seems to love him. Remeber how much fun they had when he had Flutie drop kick the PAT? Maybe it's the slob clothes, the work ethic, whatever...That whole scandal had the opposite effect of disrupting the Pats. If anything, it pulled them all together and now they are playing harder.
NORCALSURFER777 said 10/04, 04:43 PM
Yeah I forgot they rallied around him. I just don't think I could be around him long. I don't know how he does it, he seems to be like a robot. Holmgen just seems like a regular guy and is humble enough to admit to a mistake. To me that's important. Maybe I missed it but "Hoodie" didn't really take any responsibilty for the Video thing. His apology seemed phony. With all of that said, it is still tough to argue your point. Thank you for the throwdown. I also thank you for not using foul language

If I were a player, I'd want a shot at a SB ring. In today's NFL "The Hoodie" gives you the best chance. Personally, as a fan, I can't stand the guy - he's taken my team down twice in the AFC championship, but I have to give him his due. Regardless of his personnel, he generally fields winning teams, and gets inspired play from some not so talented players.

Holmgren reminds me of a cop. Give him a blue uni and some oversized shades and he could be a small town sheriff.

Report Offensive CommentCurrent NFL coaches or does this include ex-NFL coaches.
If current - Tomlin....young guy, probably relates better to his players than his colleagues....him or Chuckie for his attitude.
If ex-coaches are included - Vince Lombardi.

Report Offensive CommentOooh let me partake in this query...If i was a silly mortal that wanted to play professional football what coach would i most like to play under? hmmm well it would have to be Tom "Run me over with a Bus" Coughlin...I would rather enjoy shredding his dignity and good name with Tiki and the rest of his malcontent players. Yes it sounds delighful indeed.

Report Offensive CommentI love Holmgren but I think Bill's rings take the cake. Mike took Favre and made him into the QB he is today but Bill also took a sixth round pick in Brady and turned him into one of the most clutch qbs of all time. The Pats of 2000's are truly one of the great dynasties.
RonBurgundy | 10/04/07, 05:39 PM
Report Offensive CommentHolmgren raised Favre up from when he was still in diapers, got them both a ring, went to Seattle and took that team to a bowl too.
Dungy was good but not great in Tampa, underachieved with Peyton, Edge, Harrison, etc until last year.
If i had to pick I would say Holmgren because he took a no market franchise in GB to the Superbowl from scratch from 1992-1996. That was great coaching, and to take down the 49ers of Steve Young and even Dallas who was still good then is more impressive than Dungy who never could get all that Tampa talent a ring.
All rings not being equal, i vote for surferboy.
