How should the Eagles change their team? What is going wrong? And how do they fix it?

How did the "Dream Team" let the Eagles go 1-4? I'll tell you.

The coaching is the worst it's been since Andy Reid started coaching 13 years ago. Let's see the resumes:
Andy Reid- Head Coach. The MOST WINNINGEST COACH in the history of the Philadelphia Eagles. (119-74-1) He's 10-9 in the playoffs...yet no ring. I believe he's a good coach, just horrible decisions.
My favorite guy (sarcasm), Juan Castillo-Former OL coach turned into a DC. He got premoted because of the "diligence and the kind of coach that he is." I personally think they couldn't find anyone else.
Speaking of OL, Howard Mudd- Former 3-time pro-bowl offensive guard back in 66-68. How is the O-Line doing?
They let Mike Vick get hit 29 times (that's tied for 5th most in the league) but Vick gets the ball off in time only being sacked 8 times. But 8 times in 5 games? Is that how you want your star QB to get treated. That deserves a "C'mon, man!"
The Eagles need to either change coaching completely put the pieces to the puzzle back together the way it was for the past few years. What was working fine before doesn't need to be changed.
By the way, good luck to my opponent. It's my 1st TD so may the best man win!

How do they fix it?

1-Castillo might be new to being a DC, but come on!!! Aso is not a zone guy, he is a big and physical CB that needs to plan man coverage, not this zone defense he seems to want to play him in.

2-Run the ball more. McCoy is a very good player. Use him more. Even if it means a safe high percentage play, like 4-5 yard screen pass. Get the ball in his and let him make plays. DeSean Jackson is a nice deep threat, but he is too inconsistent.

3-Michael Vick needs to stop turning the ball over. He has 7 INT's, already more than all of last season. 6 fumbles, 2 lost fumbles. 9 turnovers is way too many.

In Philly's 1st series vs Buffalo, he threw an INT. Buffalo took over on their own 46, eventually scoring a TD. In the 2nd quarter, under heavy pressure, Vick threw another INT, Nick Barnett returned it for a TD.

That is the Eagles season so far in a nutshell. How is that the D's fault? The defense is getting too much of the blame.

The defense is getting too much considering they are 7th in the Passing Defense. But they can't stop the run for their life being ranked 28th.

But enough about defense, let's go to offense. The offense isn't bad at all player-wise. They have playmakers in all skill positions (QB, RB, WR, TE) and comparing them to the league, they are 8th in the passing offense (280.0) and 1st in the rushing offense (165.6). It's just what the coaches called is horendous!

Let's go to the Eagles-Giants game, the Eagles home opener. The Eagles failed to get 6 inside of the 5. If I recall correctly, the Eagles had 2 chances inside the 5 to get a touchdown and all 6 times they couldn't do it...why? The play call from Andy Reid was too predictable. Sneaks and dives inside the middle. The eagles went 4-5 inside the Redzone including 3 fg's and a McCoy TD and a Vick INT.

One more bad call was the 4th and 1 early in the 4th when the Birds were up 2. They ran a fake FB pitch to HB. The same play that won the game last year on a 4th and 1. The Giants expected them to do that. YOU NEED TO PUNT THE BALL! Even if the Giants score, you'll still have time to march down the field and score! All in 1 game.

I hate to say this, but signing Nnamdi Asomugha was a mistake. Aso is an excellent player, but the Eagles really didn't need him. Not with Asante Samuel and Dominique Rodgers-Cromatie. Especially if they are going to play zone. Aso is a perfect cover CB, big, physical and

By acquiring Aso as well as the other "Dream Teamers", they had obviousness weaknesses at OL and LB that they were unable to fill.

"But enough about defense, let's go to offense. The offense isn't bad at all player-wise. They have playmakers in all skill positions (QB, RB, WR, TE)"

Sure, the offense is very talented. But, the Bills game is just the latest example of Vick turning the ball over. Against the Falcons, he fumbled 3 times, losing 2. Plus a costly INT. These TO's turned into 14 points for Atlanta. In a game they lost by 4.

You need your QB to take care of the ball, not look like Eli Manning, Mark Sanchez or Tony Romo.

If not for those TO's, Mike Kafka wouldn't have been forced into a situation where he had to throw the ball.

Signing Nnamdi was a great move! When you get something good, you don't want it to end. And when you have something good, you want to make it better!

You need to switch the coaching. Either fire Castillo or fire Mudd and put Castillo back where he belongs.

Sure, the players play the game, but the coaches make the decisions. The coaches call the shots. The coaches control what the players do. The coaches aren't doing a good job, thus, the players don't do a good job. Horrible play call=Horrible play.

The coaches need to get changed, or the coaches need to change. In other words, get a new coach lineup or get a new roster. In my opinion, an O-Line. You have decent players, so get better ones. I'm sure there has to be a good center, guard, or tackle in free agency. I searched but I couldn't find a free agency list so I can't get examples.

And also, I'll answer your statement, "But, the Bills game is just the latest example of Vick turning the ball over." 1 was tipped and the Bills made a great play. Nothing you can do about a great, athletic catch. 2 INT'S were caused by him being hit from behind AS he was throwing. And the final one was kicked in the air by Jason Avant.

I know this sounds silly, but don't doubt me. I am a HUGE football fan that knows his stuff, but I'll make my arguement right after school tomorrow. lol

You are an idiot

October 11, 2011  08:42 PM ET

Screw it. I'll do it now.

October 11, 2011  08:44 PM ET

Do it. You won't

Debating whether I'm up for another Eagles TD... I'll post an argument or drop this within the hour.

My 2 bits of advice SportsFan:

Clarify your stance. You mention the OL, but don't really say that's a key part to change. You bring up coaching first and last, which reads like their problem is coaching. Did you mean Coaching AND the OL? I can't tell.

Also spacing/paragraphs make it easier to read for us voters.

Otherwise, nice work to start off.

I have a lot to say... but I'm more in a hash it out in the comment section kind of mood. So I'll just hold my tongue for a few rounds of arguments. BBL.

Thanks OJ. lol. I've done it before but for some reason I got discontinued. But I didn't do a lot of TD's. And spacing is my problem. I wanted to mainly focus on coaching but my O-Line got tied in there with my coaching. Hope that helps!

You should also warn him that he's about to get called "Sparky" by his opponent.

Nope.

You guys are both missing the biggest problem with the team, IMO. And it's no quick fix.

October 12, 2011  06:42 AM ET

The run defense, I know.

October 12, 2011  08:39 AM ET

They need to go out and find themselves a QUARTERBACK instead of a couple of overrated glorified running backs....

Its more like run interferance than defense IMO. :^)

I think their linebackers are confused. They must have been hit too hard in the head and now they think they are matadors. you know,....Ole MF!

There are plenty of QBs who would love to have only been sacked 8 times in 5 games.
