I mean, the last two fights I've bought were the Mayweather fight and the Bernard Hopkins fight. Frkn Mayweather sucker punched ole dude. I have to be real on this one, the ref wasn't even looking. Either way, I paid 60 bucks for a 4 round bang'ER I can't complain too much about the aftermath, Larry Merchant saying he'd beat floyd's **** was EPIC, but still, not worth the whole60 bucks. Mayweather's victory left a dirty taste in my mouth as a fan of the sport. I'm trying to see true greatness coming into this mega fight, if it happens. I don't want to see Floyd, arguably the best fighter in the world, sucker punch for WINS. It was a legal hit, I know, but it was very unsportsmen like. I mean, what professional boxer, with two FREE LICKS, can't get a KO victory?
Now to Bernard Hopkins. I will have to admit, I was more dissappointed with that fight! Bernard intiated the clinch and semi jumped in the process. ON the other hand, Dawson, he lifted Bernard of his feet with his shoulder, then slung his ****. I was critical of Bernard's fall, and the tko victory for Chad. That 2 round bang'er left a sour taste in my mouth. Boxing, what have you done for me lately?

When you invest in a PPV card you should only invest in cards that are good top to bottom. Boxing is a the absolutely roughest sport one can compete in and from time to time things happen that will leave you feeling a bit unsatisfied.
Now where both these main events may not have been what we where hoping for the under cards on both of them where VERY entertaining. Future HOFer Morales and Cano put on an excellent fight that ended in dramatic fashion and Lopez vs Vargas was as gutsy as a fight you will find. I know you don't pay to see these guys but in a sense you did, make sure you watch the whole card.
I know a lot of fans that loved the Floyd fight, I disagree but it also wasn't a cheap shot. Cortez signaled the fight to start but Ortiz went in for another kiss. Floyd even let him do this and when Ortiz backed out he had his hands down, um Ortiz the fight is on now. Floyd hit him, Ortiz still didn't put his guard up but looked at the ref to help him than Floyd knocked him out. Punching a guy in a boxing match isn't dirty or unsportsmanlike.
The undercard for the Hopkins match was great. Blood and gutsy performances in all the matches. Injuries happen.

Are you serious?
YOu are saying it wasn't a cheap shot?
Floyd took a cheap shot. If Floyd had any honor, he woulda let Ortiz reset.
Everybody in that building was in shock.. What a crazy ending.. One I won't forget, but really don't like remembering..
You're right, that punching a guy in a boxing match is not unsportsmen like. But when you are competiting in a sport, you should at least let it be fair. Sure the punch was LEGAL, and if i was a street thug, I'd probably do the same damn thing.
Floyd is holding on, BETTER YET, grasping on to his undefeated and unblemished record. I think Floyd's great, no doubts, but I think he has a maker. Manny is that dude. The only guy that can pull the most unbelievable of feats. So yeah, I have respect for Floyd, but I lost a lot last fight. Go back to the Merchant interview, Floyd doesn't like being called out on his foul, which was very legal, but eh, it was dirty. Lets be real.
JUST IN-B-HOP GETS HIS BELT BACK, DECISION REVERSED!

The decision was not reversed, it was changed to a technical draw but he does get his belt back and should still have credit for the Lineal Title.
When I first saw the Floyd fight [streaming, didn't buy this fight] I thought it was cheap to. After seeing the HBO replay and hearing all that went on inside the ring, not a chance. It was all on Ortiz. In sports you don't wait until your opponent is ready, you go when the official or referee says "go". I have never in all my athletic life waited for my opponent to be ready. He ain't ready f@#$ him, than I beat him.
I still don't like the ending of the Floyd fight but I don't put the blame on him. Ortiz was fighting dirty and didn't protect himself, hell he was barely protecting himself before that.
The card was still good and that is the point. Even with the really bad Hopkins main event I was still entertained by the card. How many better fights this year where there than DeMarco vs Linares? Seriously was a top 5 bout of the year. Had everything you could ask for. Linares owning the first 5 or 6 rounds with DeMarco coming back to score the stoppage. Watch for this kid, he is the real deal. This just got your first glimpse.

So you take cheap shots?
that's what Floyd did..
The B-hop fight was a mess.. Sure, B-hop's undercard was good, but that's not why anybody paid 60 dollars. People wanted to see the scheduled main event, at least last 5 rounds.. WE end up with a 2 round fight, and a tragic ending. A fight that wasn't really, A FIGHT.
Unfortunately Bucky, we are the minority in the population of sports' fans, as a whole. People pay to the see the Main Event. Bernard Hopkins just won the lightheavyweight title from Jean Pascal, in a classic, only to turnaround and defend the title in a boooohoo fight.
Also, if you think about it, I've paid 120 dollars for 6 rounds of boxing. With two young and very talented fighters, Chad Dawson and Victor Ortiz, and two great legends, Floyd Mayweather and Bernard Hopkins..
Lets just say, if Marquez's trainer pours oil on the canvas, in round 3 of his fight with Pacquaio, AND PACQUAIO slips and breaks his leg, I might call Xfinity and cuss them out. ha
BuckyBadger. said 10/22, 01:43 AM
The only person that fouled was Ortiz. The situation was all on him.
I understand people come to see the main event but that is all more the reason to protect that event with a quality under card. Bad things happen in this sport and this won't ever change. Happened with Tyson and it happened going all they way back to the inception of the sport. All that can be done is to insure that the whole night isn't a stinker.
You want something that boxing has done for you lately? Tune into the fights that are competitive and usually more meaningful. Angulo vs Kirkland is everything boxing is about. If I had one fight to watch for the rest of the year this would be it.
If you want to purchase a card that will entertain and guaranteed not to disappoint, skip the Pacquiao vs Marquez fight that has an average at best under card and put your money on Cotto vs Margarito. No way either of those guys pull some BS to get out of fight early, they will fight to the bitter end. Not only that but all 4 fights are almost all guaranteed to entertain.
Listen to your resident boxing fan and buy the better card. Also if you want to check out the next star in boxing, turn into HBO tomorrow night.
