These Questions were put forth in the CBS Sports magazine for each team: I will answer the Q yes or No.
Disagree? Throwdown!
Q: Did Orlando pay to much for Rashard Lewis
A: No-
There are 3 teams 3 teams over almost the same contract and over 20 teams contacted his agent
Consider this- Lewis makes 1.4 Million LESS this year than Grant Hill and Darko
Hill + Darko < Lewis
22.4 ppg 9.1rpg 53.9 mpg < 22.4ppg 6.6rpg in 39 minutes per game
In this market - for his Upside - and the fact he should get more production than Hill+Darko- no they did not overpay.

Rashard Lewis is not a max player. I can go all day with guys that make less than him and put up netter numbers. But, the fact is he can't play D, is an average rebounder and is not an inside prescence. He does not deserve to make the most amount of money possible. He is not even a top 50 player.

There are a TON of bad contracts out there almost every team has 2 or 3 bad signings
But for the cap players he replaced Lewis is a better investment- and considering he mainly took Grant Hills Spot- and is a lot more healthy- a MUCH better idea.

I agree, he is better than what he replaces, but they have to max out howard soon and i just don't get jumping on the only decent free agent in a bad crop and overpaying him. Thae 2008 class has the potential to be the greatest yet(hollinger on espn wrote about it earlier this year). I know some of those guys will re-up, but I don't get the philosophy of overpaying whats their for a better chance this year. They have a stud young player and if they waited could have had possibly arenas, marion, j. o'neal, or baron davis(ones I figure most likely to leave). Among many other players with much more talent than lewis. Know they will not have the cap space and definitely do not have enough talent to win an NBA title. Patience is wasted upon some GM's and the magic will definitely regret signing that contract sooner rather than later.

ASk the Bulls a few years back how cap space helps- you have to have players go there first or else you are dropping 20 mil on Eddie Robinson and a Max contract on Rose.
The Bobcats have had TONS of cap room for years and won;t spend it
Lewis is still improving and you said yourself he is better than what he replaced.
and with Howard and Lewis together for 4-5 years is a great way to grow
If you are spending the same cash and getting better returns- how is that a bad deal?

You play the game to win a title. And Dwight Howard is definitely a guy you can win a title with. But it has been proven you need more than 1 great player to do that. Rashard Lewis is not that guy. You are right, that you don't know who will go there, but how hard would it be to convince one of those guys to play in Florida with a stud big man and a chance to win multiple titles. The fact is orlando has doomed itself to middle level east conference team unless they luck out on a draft pick. And that will be tough drafting in the high teens every year
