How long does it take for a team to finally get some respect?? I mean come on, they've been doing this since '07, and haven't skipped a beat. But still they aren't considered has a high caliber team.
What does Boise have to do? Can't help that they have a sup-par schedule.
HawksFanz said 10/24, 01:34 PM
Easy pickin's here - the answer is simple
Boise State is a talented and well-coached football team that just needs to join a 'real' conference in order to gain the type of national/BCS respect they seek. The Mountain West is why they don't get any national respect. That conference is loaded with a bunch of weak teams that any decent, mid-level team Div I team in the country would beat on a regular basis.
It's true that BSU does beat teams like Georgia (who really isn't that good this year) and the folks they get 6 weeks to game plan for in a bowl game. But they play a powder-puff schedule when it comes to conference play.
BSU is rated behind folks in conferences that have a bunch of ranked teams. If BSU had to play Alabama and LSU, or Oklahoma and Oklahoma state when they entered conference play, I doubt very seriously that they would win those games and have the ranking they now enjoy.
DGrizzle2013 - Go Cavs! said 10/24, 02:05 PM
If they HAD to play Oklahome this year BSU would win. They are very reminscent to the '06-'07 OU team that had Jermaine Gresham and Adrian Peterson.
Boise is ranked #10 in the nation in points for and 13th in passing yards with their Heisman contender KELLEN MOORE.
Not only did they beat Georgia in virtually a home game for UGA, but they controlled that game all the way through.
Since '06 Boise has only lost 5 games. Consistent? I think so. What other team in the NCAA D-1 has been that consistent?
HawksFanz said 10/24, 02:18 PM
13th in passing yards?! Seriously?? Well, yeah - they should be against the likes of Toledo, Tulsa, Nevada, Colorado State, and Air Force!
And if you don't beat those kinds of teams on a consistent basis, then you shouldn't be asking for any type of respect to begin with!
So play Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State and see what kind of numbers you put up.
Any team in the country can get up for a big game once or twice a year. Take the pounding of going through a typical SEC, Big 10 or Big 12 schedule and let's see what you're made of.
BSU hides in the Mountain West and beats up a bunch of pansies and cries about not getting respect?? Enjoy your #4 ranking and stop with the whining!
DGrizzle2013 - Go Cavs! said 10/24, 02:29 PM
Oklahoma lost.. ranked #3 then dropped to #11 in the AP poll. Boise State WINS. ranked #5 coming into their game.. and where to they move.. NOWHERE! Oklahoma State jumped them. As well as Standford. What respect that is. Smh
Every team Stanford has played, Georgia could beat.
It looks like Coach Peterson is cool from the outside, but in the inside I know he is fuming.
BSU comes out every weekend and plays to their potential. They take no days off and looks past no opponent (Like Oklahoma).
Yeah sure they had a battle with Air Force. But Air Force is 2nd in the nation in rushing yards per game.
Boise has proven day in and day out that their legit contenders, and yet they still get looked over.
HawksFanz said 10/24, 02:38 PM
Hmmmm.... Let's look there at that traditional powerhouse, Air Force....
105th in passing yards allowed, and 113th in points allowed. They are 3-4 on the year and have victories against South Dakota, Tennessee State and Navy. Their losses have been against #25 TCU, Notre Dame, and San Diego State. Wow - they really strike fear into an opponent's heart, don't they???
Oklahoma State has no losses and has beaten Texas A&M (ranked #8 at the time) and Texas (ranked #22 at the time). OSU is 2nd in passing and 2nd in points scored. Both better than BSU. They have quality wins over quality teams in a quality conference.
Again, BSU should enjoy being ranked as high as they are, but until they actually win consistently in a conference that matters, they won't and rightly shouldn't get a National Championship game invite.

I used to be in the give respect to Boise camp, and I want to see them play a Oklahoma St/LSU/Alabama just to end the debate, but I'm sorry, if you struggle to beat Air Force, at home, you aren't an elite team.

Its not their fault that GA sucks this year. But the conference schedule is their fault for belonging to that conference. However, the same can be said for all Big East Football teams and they still have an auto BCS invite.

Plus, Boise winning one big game against a great team won't prove anything. Schedule 3 quality teams in a row. Win all 3 and then theres respect.
Play Oklahoma, Georgia, then Wisconsin.
2 good teams and a decent SEC. Win 3 and prove yourself.

What about their other non-conference games? They expected Toledo to be a force? Or Fresno?
They could have made a move to the Pac-12 or Big-12, but they know they would fall to the middle of the pack and lose that BCS money.
Even LSU who plays a MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH harder conference schedule took on Oregon AND West Virginia in their out of conference games.
As for UGA, they have been bad since the 80's... how could they not know that?

Respect and an auto BCS invite do not go hand in hand. How much respect do you see the Big East getting? Practically none, nor do they deserve it in terms of putting a team in the major bowls. No one would pay attention to the Big East, a conference filled with mediocre to decent teams if they didn't have the auto bid, but the attention is negative and not positive.
Boise St. is way more respected than any Big East team but getting into the title game also requires wins against more than one or two decent teams. I would hope they can play a top tier team this year as well, because they are a very good team and competitive against the upper echelon teams, but their chances of being in the title game are very slim because of who they play. You have to earn your way into the title game and you can't do that very easily with their schedule.

They couldn't get in the Pac-12, theyre academics were below the minimum requirement so they got denied.

Wow! Old man Bush hates broccoli and you guys hate potatoes. How can a team with a weak schedule, play on deep blue astroturf from a town that is at least 500 miles from civilization be ranked so high. It's just not fair that the the Coaches votes them high (they must be brain dead). Why do the sportswriters show their bias and rank them so high? And finally, there must be a computer glitch for the BCS ranking system to place them in the no. 4 spot.
But then again, take a closer look........
Let's count the reasons why the coaches, the sportswriters and the BCS computer puts them so high.
1. Track Record - Even though they don't play at least two great non-conference foes, they play one. They beat Oregon twice in a row. Then they beat Virginia Tech in DC, this year they beat Georgia. You respond, beating Georgia is not like playing Bama or LSU. Granted, I will give you that. But the last time I looked Georgia was 5-2. Who did they lose to. Boise State and South Carolina. Georgia is climbing up the rankings. Also, they are currently tied with South Carolina in their division of the SEC to see who gets to play in the SEC title game against either Bama or LSU probably. So the sportswriter and coaches don't take that away from Boise State.
2. Boise State Coach. Peterson is a throwback from the days when coaches had great respect and humility for their opposition coaches and their teams. You never see them purposely run up the score just so it will rank them higher. Voting Coaches and Sportswriters have great respect for this type of coach. He is consistently, a good man as well as a great coach.
3. Oklahoma was ranked #1 in one of the polls and thought to be unbeatable. But who beats them. Texas Tech an unranked team. Look at Wisconsin. I admit it was pure luck that the game did not go into overtime but here is a Michigan State team, now at 6-1 who may win the Big Ten, win again in East Lansing (4 straight against Wisconsin in their own stadium) even if was by a hail mary.
4. Consistency. Boise State wins both conference, non-conference and the bowl games they play in.
They have played in BCS and non-BCS bowl games and usually win.

Boise St. manhandled Georgia. On any given Saturday Boise St. can beat Bama or LSU.

Boise State would probably have the same record in any conf. (unless they were in the SEC and already faced LSU) as they are just as good as Stanford or Alabama (OSU is a pretender).

They already have beaten Oklahoma, Georgia, and Oregon (twice) to name a few. I'm sure they would play Wisconsin but won't get the chance because they Wisconsin won't schedule them.

I am waiting to hear left explain what he means by Boise St. continually getting hosed. Two arguments and the only clue is something about respect.

That was 4 years ago against a different team with different players. and it was ONE game. Any team can get geared up for one game, but few can do it week in and week out and that's exactly why Boise's overrated.
