Okay, the opening line was suppose to get your attention but it's not exactly how it sounds. What I mean by it, is that Romo reminds me of a younf Breat Favre more than any other QB in the league. I'll even go as far to say past and present. Like Favre, Romo seems to be having FUN playing the game. He does not seem to panic and when he maakes a mistake he seems to laugh it off and joke with either his team or even the opposing players. At eh same time he appears to have a great drive to win and will carry it (the game) on his shoulders if need be. I'm not saying Romo will have a similar career but as I have said before, I do think Romo in the not too far future will be well known and "respected" throughout the league. If you do look at stats there are similarities as well. Perhaps I'll save some data (stats) for my next comment. Personality wise, they appear to be very similar. People (fans) have always related to Favre and I think Romo is and will be that type of guy and QB as well!

There is one thing that will prevent Tony Romo from being the type of guy that Brett Favre is: his surroundings. Romo is in a huge market with a big money owner and a new stadium on the way. The Cowboys also have a lot more talent already installed in place for Romo than the Pack did for Favre. In the three seasons before Romo took over (2003-2005), the Cowboys were a combined 25-23. In the three seasons before Favre took over the Packers (1989-1991), the Packers were 20-28.

You also have to look at the supporting cast each had. When Favre fell into the job in 1992, Robert Brooks, Edgar Bennett, and Mark Chmura were all rookies. His leading rusher (Vince Workman) had 631 yards rushing. He did have a world class receiver in Sterling Sharpe however, but after Sharpe's 1400 receiving yards, the next leading receiver had almost 600 yards receiving.

Compare that to Romo's supporting cast of Owens, Glenn, Jones, Barber, and Witten. Romo came in with a lot more to work with than Favre. I would have to say that it is very, very hard to compare these two.

First and foremost, I am speaking of personality. You mentoned the records of the two teams before the mentioned QB's came in. They are really not that much different. They did not lead to different results for the most part. The Cowboys were searcing, The Packers were searching. They both needed a franchise QB. Favre obviously has been that and I don't think anyone will repeat what he has done but Romo is certainly the Cowboys franchise QB. You mentioned casts. Think of style and execution.

It's extremely hard to judge athletes' personality. An athlete needs to be around the press for years before his personality becomes clear. Confidence in someone may turn to cockiness. Favre is loved and will always be loved. But it his hard to get to know someone of Romo's stature without going through the media. We are left to the Cowboys-hating media to provide us with our stories. To get to really know the side of Romo that the media does not show, we'd each have to go out and play a round of golf with him. I don't know if any of us will have that opportunity. How are we supposed to compare personalities when we don't know if we are even seeing the real thing?

FYI: Favre was first loved in Greenbay for along time before he became a beloved QB around the country. Of course time will tell more about Romo, but "IF" I had to compare him right now to a QB it would be Favre. I would be comparing their on and off field antics. I would be speaking of their overall spirit. The way they conduct themsleves on and off the field. There are and have been plenty of stories on Romo and Favre. You don't have to rely on one source. If you had to compare? Who then?

So Romo is like Favre? You're forgetting the one thing that makes Favre Favre or made him Favre early in his career: his brash and brazen streak. While in Atlanta, Favre had the reputation of being party-er and a slacker. Favre would be late to practice and he missed the team picture his only year in Atlanta. There's a reason why Atlanta gave up on him and traded him. He openly clashed with Glanville and basically was a difficult child. The only real use Glanville had for Favre was winning bets about whether or not he could throw the ball into the upper deck of whatever stadium they were in. Favre did not go quietly. That quality made him Brett Favre.

On the other hand, I didn't hear a peep out of Romo while he was backing up Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Vinny Testaverde, and Drew Bledsoe. He just sat there quietly and waited his turn. We don't hear Romo clashing with his wide receivers, like Favre did with Javon Walker a few years ago. Romo does not have that brash attitude that made Favre Favre early in his career. Favre did have the "Aw, shucks" mentality, but he was not afraid to mix it up.

Until Romo shows some of this, he is in no way close to being Favre

Voting out of spite? Interesting! You know what you can do with your apples...

Hmmm, Romo is one of the most ahted players in the NFL and everyone loves Favre.

October 6, 2007  09:28 PM ET

efb5: Why does everyone hate Romo? Do you hate him? Don't tell me you're one of the guys/peopel that hates winners? Are you just bitter over our last TD where you admitted that you go for "EASY WINS," which I was destroying you in before it got deleted. I beleive you became very offended and used all sorts of foul language. Romo homself is not hated, it goes back to Dallas Cowboy hatred. I don't think anyone could honestly say something negative about Romo. Maybe you can???

I Got The Shine: You're another one that is accused of going for easy wins. It all makes sense now. Arre you friends with efb5? If not, invite him, he will be...

I voted accordingly. I think Favre is one of the most loved people in the NFL. We cant go 1 day on this site without 10 people bashing romo.
