Okay, so Trent Green cracks his skull again, and the player he hit, Travis Johnson, is called the "Worst Person in the NFL" on the SNF halftime show. That doesn't work for me. Trent Green made a bad play, aimed intentionally at Travis Johnson's knee, and (unfortunately) got what he deserved.
Big Ben68 said 10/07, 10:54 PM
So, let me get this straight:
You think Green should NEVER start another NFL game JUST because he suffered a concussion trying to CUT block a 300 lb defensive lineman and after the game Johnson talks about how Green was doing something or other ending up as the "Worst Person in the NFL". First, don't even listen to that guy on the SNF Half Time show. Second, (and I already said this) please explain to me why Green should NEVER again start an NFL game for trying to help out his running back on a play. He was sacrificing himself to HELP his team win. He ended up getting a knee to the helmet and getting carted off, but from what I hear he was fine by the end of the game and had the possibility to return but didn???t. Also, when cut blocking you aim at the knees (or just under them trying to take their feet from under them), but you usually don???t try to knock your head into their knee; that just doesn???t make sense.
Oh and concussing himself upon a knee is something he deserved? I don???t see how especially since no one REALLY, truly deserves a concussion unless they go out of their way to get one???or are incredibly reckless when playing.
CancerMan8 said 10/07, 11:12 PM
Millions watch SNF, and rely on it for the day's NFL news. Regardless of what you think about it, many casual fans do listen, and I didn't agree with the statement made.
Green laid down the type of hit that has resulted in penalties, fines, suspensions, and major injuries. As a quarterback, he is as aware as any about the low hit. To use that as a blocking tool, legal or not, is dirty.
Combine those circumstances with his dubious bill of health, and the increased attention that multiple concussion victims are receiving, and the chances of another comeback are slim to none.
Oh, and speaking of recklessness, how about the decision he made to use his HEAD as a blocking tool against a 300 lb defender?
Big Ben68 said 10/07, 11:33 PM
The cut block is NOT dirty and is a PERFECTLY legal hit. It is used in high percentages in zone blocking schemes and by smaller players to bring down bigger players (i.e. Trent Green on Travis Johnson). Also, cut blocks (as far as I know) have NEVER resulted in fines, penalties, or suspensions unless it was a late hit or an actual attempt at a dirty hit (Tom Nalen on Igor Olshansky last season in Denver). Trent Green didn???t purposefully use his head to bring down Johnson it just happened that way. You CANNOT blame him for trying to help is team win. He is currently doubtful for next week, but here are quotes:
??????Dolphins quarterback Trent Green rejoined his team after he sustained a concussion in Sunday???s game against Houston??????
???Green was back in the locker room after the Dolphins??????loss, with a bandage behind his right ear???he was going to fly back to Miami with the team??????
This is INEXCUSABLE to do and is WHY he was named the WORST PERSON IN THE NFL:
???Travis Johnson hit Green in the head with his knee. After the play ended, Johnson stood OVER Green and TAUNTED him, drawing a 15-yard penalty???
PLEASE, explain to me how THAT doesn???t make Travis Johnson the worst person in the NFL
CancerMan8 said 10/07, 11:48 PM
Doubtful will turn into IR, will turn into end of season, to retirement after advice from his doctors. Regardless of Johnson, Green is done in the NFL.
Travis Johnson didn't hit Green. Green hit Johnson, in a manner that has resulted in MANY injuries, etc., regardless of the situation or labeling. Helmet-to-knee collisions are a serious problem, whether they happen to a QB or not, and whether they are intentional or not. Johnson reacted predictably in that situation, where he believed (as I do) that Green laid a dirty hit to a vulnerable area. If he was as mad as it seemed, he probably didn't comprehend the magnitude of Green's injury until he had a few moments to calm down. It's not like he stomped Green to injure him, and it's not like he hit Green in a dirty manner. He got upset, but didn't take it out on Green physically.
Big Ben68 said 10/08, 12:09 AM
No, normally doubtful turns into probable, and probable into good to go. Green MIGHT miss ONE, maybe two weeks, but NOTHING like last season where he missed nearly the entire season. It wasn???t too serious of a hit if he is traveling back to Miami on a plane with the rest of the team. If I remember correctly last season when he was concussed in the 1st week of the season he stayed in the hospital for a day or two. Helmet to knee collisions are a serious problem? I NEVER seem to see them as I watch games (and I watch VERY closely). Most of the time I see shoulder to chest contact or hands to ankles contact. I will reiterate cut blocks (and Trent Green???s block) are NOT dirty unless orchestrated that way and I???m pretty sure Green being an upstanding man and player would NEVER do such a thing. Also, taunting ANY opponent is bad, but an INJURED opponent!!! That is just inexcusable (as I said before). It REALLY doesn???t matter if he didn???t comprehend the magnitude of the injury. Whether or not a guy is injured you shouldn???t taunt. Not only does it cost your team 15 yards it can possibly cost you as a player money AND games.

the NFL doesn't take concussions seriously enough. if Green cares about his health and his life, he'll be smart and either not play anymore or take a little time off. personal health is much more important than a football game.

I understand that jetsstolehome, but THAT (at least from what I gather) is NOT the premise of this throwdown. What it seems to be is that Trent Green just shouldn't play anymore because he is a "terrible" player and did something "stupid" to help his team. Maybe I'm wrong, BUT that is what I gather from his argument and title. NOTHING about his concussions being the problem...except that for SOME odd reason Trent Green DESERVED a concussion...that doesn't make sense.

My opinion:Green will never play again in the NFL, or if he does, he will seriously injure himself and have problems the rest of his life. He's had a good career, he should retire while he still has some brain function.

due to his concussions, I think he should retire. But that's not what CancerMan said. He's implying he should retire because he made a bad block. I disagree with that argument, so vote for Ben,

Actually, I think the point is that there are pieces of evidence which indicate that his NFL career has reached an end. Hopefully, you'll at least read the arguments before voting.

I did read it. You said he got what he deserved. And you said his block was dirty. I disagree with that.

REST OF MY THIRD ARGUMENT:
To talk smack like that just isn???t worth the consequences. I never said he stomped on him or he hit Green in an illegal manner, BUT he still shouldn???t have been taunting???and THAT makes him the Worst Person in the NFL according to Keith Ulberman.

I don't think he should play again because he's not good enough to keep playing. I wish him and Chad would take an express bus to Canada!!! Yea, I'm a sour Jets' fan.

I've had RBs and centers try it on me plenty of times...an annoying thing until you learn how to combat it...
And I learned how to combat it!!!!! It really isn't an injury inducing block unless they land strangely or something to that effect...

Big Ben: I think you have a better argument; however, I'm sticking with the opening remark. I don't buy into his reasoning but I do agree that he should not play another game in the NFL. With that said, my vote had to go to him. You have made a good argument and logical points, but just with the opening statement in mind, do you think he should play again?
Sour Patch Kid

Tsk tsk tsk, I expected you to vote on the argument as you should...but whatever.
Also, I believe he'll play at least one more year whether that be as a back up or starter, either way he'll be playing in the NFL.

He should never play again for health reasons but to say he got what he deserved? Vote to Big Ben.

Big Ben: It's a matter of opinion and preference. I don't want to see the guy play again. That's it! Are you giving me TD rules?

No, I'm not, but you admitted my argument was superior so in that regard my side should gain the vote, BUT because of personal opinion I lose it...
Everyone says to base your vote off of the argument and disregard personal preference, but you did not...
ANYWAY, it doesn't really matter.
