Travis Johnson was right to call out Trent Green (concussion or not)

That was perhaps one of the cheapest blocks I have ever seen in my life. Travis Johnson is rounding the corner trying to cut off Ginn, and Green comes from OUTSIDE Johnson's field of vision and goes right for his KNEES, not his thighs. That's asking for an injury to happen.

It could have just as easily been Johnson being carted off the field with a SEVERE knee injury (torn MCL/PCL/ACL/w.e) or even a shattered knee cap (his knee went right into Green's helmet), which probably would have ended Johnson's career.

That consussion was completely Green's fault, he gets no sympathy from me. He shouldn't be such a wuss. Last year I remember Brees laying a devastating block on a lineman on a Colston end-around, and I mean it was a block.

That was a completely cheap play, and as I said, Johnson is lucky to be walking today.

The fact is, the quarterback tried to make an effective although 'cheap' hit. But the fact that his head was weaker than another guy's knee is somewhat humorous. Probably that was the only place Green had a CHANCE of taking him down. It's like throwing rocks at a tank. And then the tank shoots him and is outraged that a rock dented his paint job. The hit was not clean, but the reation by Johnson was absolutely classless and disgusting. He doesn't have to apologize, but have some dignity.

You can trip the guy or go for his THIGHS, but knees are a whole different story.

This would have been a completely A-OK play if Green had done one of those two, but no, he decided to go for the knees (and get himself knocked out in the process; say goodbye to your career Green). The worst than can happen then is that Johnson sprains an ankle or gets a thigh bruise (both injuries that'd take you out for a month max), rather than a possible career-ending injury.

Yes, Johnson may have been a little CrAzY, but the NFL is an emotional game, and he spoke out right after the game. He DID come back about a half hour later, and was more calm, but still shared the same views. Even Mariucci commented on this and said that his second interview was much better.

I'm not arguing on HOW he called him out, but rather that he was RIGHT for calling him out.

Calling out a man you just knocked out of his NFL career? why is that neccesarry? did his concience twinge his sensitive brain? Johnson could have defended his move, saying that he didn't mean to hurt anybody and it wasn't really his fault, but to get all over the guy he just put on a stretcher? trust me, a lot of people shook their heads in disgust and disbelief.

Johnson ACCIDENTLY knocked him out. So Johnson is able to stop his knee when Green came flying at it? I THINK NOT.

Green's injury is in no part Johnson's fault. Green went for his knees, Green payed the price.

As I stated in my FIRST argument, Johnson could have easily been the guy on the stretcher, I'm sure he's worried more about his NFL career than some old, washed-up shmuck.

"Johnson could have easily been the guy on the stretcher," ha ha ha! you are very funny! or stupid.
Green, a man much smaller than JOhnson is laying there not moving, looking dead, while another guy is dancing and displaying his 'manhood' for all to see.
But after the game his comments were inexcuseable. If IT WAS AN ACCIDENT LIKE YOU SAID, then say so! say it was an accident and how sorry he was that it ended like that. JOHnson is a twisted sick man, and he is the only one that looks bad.,

SO A GUYS A WUSS FOR TRYING TO HELP HIS TEAM!?!?!

I forgot to say. . .

If you can't go that low on a QB when he CAN see you, why is it legal for that same QB to go that low on you when you CAN'T see him?

It's time to make "chop blocks" illegal outside of the offensive line or a RB blocking in the backfield, because at least they can see it coming.

Report Offensive Comment

If he wouldve went for a real block he wouldve got trucked and his teammate wouldve gotten tackled.

Report Offensive Comment

He's a wuss for being such a dirty prick.

Report Offensive Comment

LOL Ginn was tackled anyways you idiot.

Report Offensive Comment

This throwdown discusts me. Johnson was WAY out of line for a LEGAL block.

Report Offensive Comment

A dirty prick that could kick your ****.

Report Offensive Comment

It's legal, but it shouldn't be.

It was completely cheap and dirty, and if the NFL wants to protect it's players it should eliminate things like that.

Report Offensive Comment

LOL Trent Green is an old, slow, fragile, weak man.

Give me a break and GTFO of my Throwdown.

You have no idea what I'm trying to say and what you're talking about.

Report Offensive Comment

Heres the thing, its Greens fault hes hurt, but it doesnt mean that Johnson should kick him while hes down.

Report Offensive Comment

Trent is 6'3 217 lbs

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah, which is underweight for a QB you dolt.

And Johnson didn't "kick him while he was down", he more or less likely called him a "****ing idiot" or something like that for trying to block him.

Most likely didn't realize he was concussed.

Report Offensive Comment

Whats a dolt kelly?

Report Offensive Comment

it was a clean block nothing ilgal about it, dbs light up defense less wrs and it makes highlights a qb goes after a 300+lbs lineman and blocks him at the only logical place and gets hated on

Report Offensive Comment

if a guy is motionless wouldnt you realize something was wrong?

Report Offensive Comment

Bio is an idiot. Plan and simple. Trent Green went for the LEGS, not the knees. He just happened to get a knee to the head. Wah on a whining defensive lineman.

Report Offensive Comment

You said it yourself Trent Green is an old, slow, fragile, weak man. So what's he gonna do? Try and blow up Travis Johnson Lawrence Taylor-style? He's not that dumb. He went for a block, realized it was a bad idea then went down so he didn't get killed. Johnson doesn't like it he can go play table tennis where the big mean quarterback won't get him.

Report Offensive Comment

You run into him, because at least you've hundered his progress.

And no Gruden, he went for the knees STRAIGHT UP.

Report Offensive Comment

If it is legal by the NFL rules, then it is not cheap or dirty. If Johnson wants to yell at someone, he should talk to the rules committee to get the rule changed.
One of the perils of d-line is guys blocking low on you, you have to keep your head on a swivel. Green was right in front of him when he took him out...Johnson should have been aware of his presence and known Green wasn't going to hit him in the stomach.
It's kind of like when a WR goes unprotected across the middle for a pass and gets KO'ed by a safety who lays him out with a clean, but vicious hit. The WR has to know it's coming.

I am duplicitous on this one. Green didn't have any other choice in and attempt to block Johnson. It was still dirty and violated the intent of the chop block rule though. No one would have ridiculed Green for staying out of the play but he wanted to help his team win. I guess the end result speaks for itself.
