I don't know what Wedge is playing at, but you need to start Sabathia tonight.
First off, even if Sabathia does start tonight, Carmona, who is arguably the better pitcher of the two, is available for Game 5. Carmona would be pitching on regular rest too. Even if Cleveland loses Game 4, they have a great shot in Game 5 with Carmona on the hill. They certainly stand a better chance in Game 4 with Sabathia pitching.
Sabathia has pitched better with less rest all season long.
4 days rest: 2.97 ERA
5 days rest: 4.05 ERA
6 days rest: 4.33 ERA
Meanwhile, Byrd has posted an ERA of 6.86 against the Yankees in his past 4 starts, and is 0-3.
Wedge is making a huge mistake by going with Byrd over Sabathia, and could cost his team the series.

No he should not. If he did it would limit the chances of success the Yankees have. If he starts him then the Yanks chances get slimmer. Besides which you want him to start that crucial game 5 back in Cleveland if nessacary. You don't want the Yankees to test him in the Bronx, then what do you do? You save him for the must win, not the it would be nice if we win game.

Things would be different if Cleveland didn't have an ace that just shut down the Yankees a few days ago.
My point is, by starting Sabathia tonight, you increase your chances of winning Game 4. I think we can both agree on that.
By starting Carmona in Game 5 in Cleveland, your chances of winning stay about the same. In fact, the chances Cleveland wins with Carmona on the hill might be greater, considering we've seen how he does against that Yankee lineup.
In addition, if the Yankees win Game 4, they have an INCREDIBLE amount of momentum going there way. Start Sabathia, and make sure the Yankees don't get that momentum.

I think its a fantastic idea. Paul Byrd suck against the Yankees. I say run him all you want, you seal your own fate. As far as the TD goes, I did kinda blow this one I have been super bus at work, and I thought I would have time to put a thought together. Boy was I wrong. I think they really think Byrd can handle the Yanks, especially since tommy john surgery and his revamped old school wind up.

Who knows why Wedge is starting Byrd. However, last time Byrd went against the Yanks, he lasted 2 innings, and gave up 7 earned. That was less than 2 months ago. Sabathia has got to be a much better option on the mound than Byrd. Like I stated before, Sabathia's actually done better with less rest this year.
It comes down to this.
Vote for Bomb3rs if you think starting Byrd on regular rest, and Sabathia on regular rest is the better plan.
Vote for me if you think starting Sabathia on a 3 days rest, and Carmona on regular

He looks like a genius now. All of his staff will be plenty rested going against the SOX. Well heres to rooting for the tribe to whoop the SOX arse...I am so friggin depressed right now. Arod needs to friggin go, Giambi can bounce, get rid of Farnsworthless, Clemens is horrid...Wang might as wel of flown into mainland china and said he was from tiawan with that crap ....hey at least there is always next year right?

This is from the book "Baseball Between the Numbers: Why Everything You Know About the Game Is Wrong".
"Since 1972, 175 pitchers have tossed 408 seasons with at least 8 starts on both three and four days rest. Weighting each pitcher's season (so that pitchers who routinely threw on three days of rest-usually the best pitchers-are not overrepresented) shows that this group actually did BETTER in most important categories on three days of rest than on four days of rest."
What I'm saying is, Sabathia will most likely pitch very good if he starts tonight.

Report Offensive CommentWhy risk it...Its not like he's in the best physical condition in the world and we still have CC and Carmon for game 5. I wouldnt have a problem either way the tribe has a 2-1 lead on the evil empire so why is everyone acting as if the tribe is behind in the series?

Report Offensive CommentWhat was CC's record Vs NYY before game one of the NLDS? 0-7
Byrds is ....0-6
Statistically Byrd is also due for a W against the NYY.

Records aside who is the better pitcher? Well the answer is obvious to me.
Statistically the Indians should have been eliminated in three, I guess.

Report Offensive CommentI have to imagine that Byrd is on a very short leash and if he is struggling early, CC will finish the job. I see this as a must-win game for the Indians. If the Yanks were able to come back from 0-2 and force a Game 5, watch out, Indians. You can't let them off the mat.
On other hand, Wang got lit up in Game 1 and has NEVER started on 3-day's rest.
Should be a very interesting game. I envision a TON of pitching changes.

Of COURSE you put the big gun in tonight. Play like there's no tomorrow, because there might not be.
Hyper's right on target, too.

Goodnight, Yankees. All that work for nothing.

PeavyFan: Voters=IDIOTS | 10/09/07, 12:23 AM
Report Offensive CommentThat's true, but Byrd did only go 5 innings, and the bullpen allowed the Yankees to get back into the game. I think Sabathia could have pitched 7 innings, and allowed Cleveland to use ONLY Perez and Betancourt...which would essentially mean lights out for the Yanks.
