If their 6 game winning streak doesn't speak for itself, lets look at their team. Evgeni Malkin is on a tear right now. He has a goal in each one of their last 6 games (which have all been wins). He is leading the league in points right now and is playing like the he is the best player in the league.
James Neal, the Pens #2 guy (when without Crosby and Staal), has 8 points in the last 5 games. Both he and Malkin each have 26 goals, which is 3rd in the league.
The next player to look at is their goalie. Marc Andre Fleury. He has 25 wins (3rd in the league)! He is a workhorse. Not only has he played the last 6 games, he has won them as well. 3 of those games he has only let up 1 goal or less.
During this streak, the Pens have beaten good teams. A few of those teams are the Capital, Rangers, Lightening, and Canadiens. These teams are no easy feet. \
They are clearly the hottest team right now!

First and most important...
The Habs are considered a good team! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
And one point from last (Tampa) in the East isn't considered a good team either.
Now to less serious matters. My pick is Detroit. They have won 7-straight games, 1 more than the Pens, and have won an incredible, franchise record, 17 straight home games!
Detroit is 8-2 in their last 10 games, the Pens are only 6-4.
Detroit hasn't given up more than 2 goals on their 7-game streak!
Before their respected streaks started, the Pens had lost 6 straight! The Wings had won 5 of their previous 8 games before they went on this streak.
You say Fleury has played good, but in half the games during this winning streak, he has had a SV% below .865 (.850, .862, .850). So really he has been playing pretty crappy and the team has been bailing him out. Howard has been lights out, with only 1 game with a SV% below .926 on this streak.
I don't know what else to put. Detroit is clearly the hottest team in hockey.

Detroit has been lucky! They have won in 4 shoot outs in their last 7 games and one overtime win. Now this would be fine if they were playing good teams, but they're not. The Columbus Blue Jackets, THE WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE!!!, took these guys into a shoot out. Thats pathetic! They have only beaten two playoff teams in the last 7 games (Chicago and St Louis).
They went to 2 shoot outs with the Phoenix Coyotes!!! You are not hot if the Phoenix Coyotes and the Columbus Blue Jackets are getting points when they play you. Those should be easy wins. Before their lucky 7 game win streak they lost 5-1 to the Islanders. The ISLANDERS!!!! HOW DO YOU GET BLOWN OUT BY THE ISLANDERS?!?!
Detroit is not hot, their are barely getting by and getting lucky wins.
The Pens, without Crosby and Staal, are beating GOOD teams. They are connecting on all levels of the game and are playing great. I expect them to win tonight and make the streak 7! Malkin will find a way to get a point or 2 and lead them to victory even without their superstar Sidney Crosby.
Even without their superstar, the Penguins are the hottest team in the NHL right now!

Luck? A win is a win.
Besides, during the Pens 'great' 6 game winning streak, 2 of their wins have come in a shootout and another in OT.
Who cares if they beat the Jackets in one game. The Pens have played Montreal, Tampa, and Carolina in their 6 game streak, three of the worst teams in the NHL. Not to mention, they also played the free-falling Panthers. The Pens haven't been playing the stiffest competition. They aren't playing good teams.
They lost to the Islanders, with their backup, before their streak. So what? They've still won 7 of their last 8. Before the Pens streak, they lost 6 straight! I think one lost in Long Island is a little easier to swallow than 6 straight losses.
Six games is a little too little to declare a team the hottest, especially when there is another team with a longer streak and with the fact that they are only .500 over their last 12.
THE WINGS HAVE WON 17 STRAIGHT AT HOME!
And who cares who they are without?
Also, don't be so quick to count a win tonight in St. Louis, the Blues have been playing great hockey under Hitch.

Look who beat the Blues. I can count on a win because the PENS ARE THE HOTTEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE RIGHT NOW!!! Later tonight, when the Redwings lose to the canadiens (who the Pens beat during their streak) the Pens will easily be the hottest team in the league!

Wow...the Pens have matched the Wings win streak. But they were, as you would say "lucky", because it was a shootout win.
But nice to see you have a crystal ball telling you that the best team in hockey is gonna lose to won of the worst.
Both teams have won 7 straight. But the Pens are still only 1-game above .500 over their last 13.
