This will never happen but would put the knicks way over the top, trade Anthony, Douglas,Bibby for A.I. part 2 and T. young

Knicks would get 2 great deffensive players and one less ball-stopping play, and the Sixers would get the go to score they need to go with there very good defensive of team.

This would be a decent trade for both teams even though it will never happen

Sometimes it is just easier to use your opponent's own words.

"though it will never happen"

So what is the point with this TD?

The trade actually works under NBA trading rules (I have just simulated that with ESPN's trade machine) but the Knicks wouldn't go for this.

You can criticize Carmelo for a number of things, but he is the best scorer on the team.

He is one of those rare players around which you build a franchise around.

Iguodala and Thaddeus are great players, but they are not the cornerstones for a franchise.

Toney Douglas is still young and Bibby, while virtually useless at this point in his career, is an expiring contract.

The Knicks either do something bold - and shipping their best scorer to a conference rival isn't it - or they should just let the rest of the reason play itself out.

Even though they've been having an extremely wacky season, things like injuries and other unexpected events (e.g: the death of Amare's brother) have hurt them.

I actually think that the Knicks, without injuries, will peak when it counts.

That's what D'Antoni needs to focus on.

they dont need carmelo for scoring, and he plays no defense, they have chandler and amare to work the pick and roll with lin, and with iggi playing sf he can add a lot more defense to the team and wont ask for the ball nearly as much as melo would

"They dont need carmelo for scoring"

He's their top scorer.

So, what you are basically saying afterwards is that Andre Iguodala is a better player than Carmelo Anthony?

Let me get one thing clear:

- The Knicks won't go far with Carmelo

- The Knicks will go far with Iguodala

That makes little sense.

Iguodala brings other things to the table, that's for sure.

But he's not a scorer like Carmelo is.

I know im horrible at TDing but this trade would work money wise, and it would help both teams out, and not really hurt either team because they both would be getting the missing ingredient to become elite.

It helps both teams and doesn't really hurt each side?

The Knicks would lose their top scorer, their top "go to" player on offense.

And the 76ers would lose team cohesion and their top playmaker.

Both teams don't turn elite overnight because of a trade like this.

I am not saying the Knicks should not trade Carmelo. But I am saying they should trade him for the right value.

With your proposed trade, they would become a less potent side.

At this stage in the season, the Knicks should be working on maintaining health, while getting the Carmelo/ Stoudemire/ Chandler/ Lin quartet to work as an effective unit come playoffs time.

Don't do a trade that just makes them worse.

only if the knicks cared more about winnging the championship then making reveunue off of adds comercials and plublicity from anthony then this would happen :(

Revenue counts, you know?

That's the difference between big markets and small markets.

Actually the death of Amare's brother didn't hurt the team because they won while he was gone. He wasn't having a great season from the start. The Knicks need to rebuild completely from the grounds up through the draft instead of wasting picks and good players (gallo) for non defensive players. Melo would fit great as a second option next to a Kobe, Durant and Dirk.

You can't isolate that factor.

They won because an unknown guy named Jeremy Lin appeared out of nowhere.

A.I. part 2 because they both share the same initials and were on the same team lol

I think the Knicks would be a better team with Iguodala than with Melo. Melo is a bigger star, and a better scorer, but that doesn't make him a better fit for this Knicks team. Melo so far doesn't know how to play Dantoni's style of basketball, slows the offense on isolation plays, and plays very bad defense.

I think its reasonable to think Jeremy Lin's short spurt of success happening while Melo wasn't playing is no surprise. If the team were going to focus its offense on pick and roll with either Amare or Chandler, then Melo is going to have less impact than if he plays the style of basketball he's best at and used to. Iguodala is already used to playing a slightly lesser role on offense and trying to make the most of his opportunities when they come. He's a good outside shooter, but can get to the basket driving and still a good athlete. He's a far better defender than Anthony. The positives of his improved defense would outweight the marginal dropoff offensively.

I agree this trade is unlikely to happen, but it would help the Knicks in my opinion.

2nd option? You must be kidding

He hasn't proven to be a leader. When he was with Denver he couldn't lead the team. Once Chauncey arrived they made the playoffs and started to win. Chauncey left and Denver started to go backwards. Yes I stand correct, 2nd option would make a team deadly with Melo like Chicago

Just nice to be able to talk about the Knicks as a real team.

Chauncey and Carmelo left Denver at the same time...

Denver didn't lose in the playoffs to teams they were better than. Carmelo was the leader on a playoff team for many years that performed about as well as they should have. As long as you win games you should win and lose games you should lose based on talent levels, I can't really fault a player for being the best player on a good but not great team.

Melo as a 2nd option would be a little too greedy for my taste. Even though the Heat did it, the idea of multiple 1st option caliber players on one team is negative to me. If you stack multiple superstar players on the same team its kind of like saying you want winning a championship to be really easy and something that you don't have to work hard for and earn. I don't like sending that message. I can understand that superstar players need a little help from other good players to win championships, but this is too much for me.

The Knicks trading Melo for Iggy? Wow someone was high when they wrote this.

Abridged case.
