Anywho,
I have to give the Jags some shine here.
Picking Justin Blackmon was a great pick up, especially for groundball Gabbert.
Blackmon possess huge hands, he runs a 4.4 forty, and he's dominated the college game.
can he do it?
I think so, this was a steal, who's the last good cardiac cat?
Jimmy smith?

HORRIBLE Pick by the Jags.
Question.
Who is the QB?
Who's blocking for him?
The Jags have about 18 holes, and WR is NOT a position they needed to fill with a top 10 pick.
He can run a 3.4 40, and still never see the wobbly duck coming his way.
PCH-R. Barber best BUC eva said 04/30, 12:46 AM
Jags havn't had a good receiver in YEARS..
Matt Jones experience?
bunch of white lines.
anywho, Mike Thomas is not a #1 on any team's roster in the nfl, and he was this past season. Gabbert's not that good, but he needs a f'n option.
The Jags have added Laurent Robinson, and Lee Evans, to help a groundball knuckler in Gabbert.
What I was TRYINg to say earlier, is that the last Jags receiver that really produced, is probably Jimmy Smith, or MccArdel.
Blackmon is a game changer. I think he'll be just fine, the Jags need to help Maurice Jones Drew out, if they didn't have him, they'd probably win 2 games tops last year.
Bloggers Needed said 04/30, 02:30 PM
They would have been better off winning 2 games and drafting Luck or RG3, to be honest with you.
But the point is, even if they drafted Irvin 2.0 this is not a contending team, and there were about 7 players that could start on that front 7.
But finally, how did the Lions do drafting WR after WR? Even when they hit on Megatron, they didn't become playoff contenders until they started looking for beef upfront and talent on the lines.
PCH-R. Barber best BUC eva said 05/02, 04:54 AM
Yeah, that's fine..
but the Jag's top two receivers last year..
respectively got 34 and 35 yards a game..
there name's you ask.....???
Jason Hill & Mike Thomas.....
i don't have to be at Everbank stadium, I'm booing from my couch.
The fact of the matter is, the wr position needed to be addressed.
Gabbert needs help out there, Jason Hill and Mike Thomas, 2 years away from the arena league, what and learn pmp, watch n learn.

A good QB makes good WRs not the other way around.
A great WR can make a good QB great, however.
But Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice are not going to put a shat QB into the playoffs. '
Lets see.
Brees does not have a top 10 WR pick on his staff
Brady does not have a top 10 WR pick on his staff
Rodgers does not have a top 10 WR pick on his staff.
Eli Manning does not have a top 10 WR pick on his staff.
Poor guys, they really need a top pick or that offensive game is going to SUCK now won't it?
Here are the 14 wide receivers who were taken in the top 10 since 2001. David Terrell (Bears, No. 8, 2001) Koren Robinson (Seahawks, No. 9, 2001) Charles Rogers (Lions, No. 2, 2003) Andre Johnson (Texans, No. 3, 2003) Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals, No. 3, 2004) Roy Williams (Lions, No. 7, 2004) Reggie Williams (Jaguars, No. 9, 2004) Braylon Edwards (Browns, No. 3, 2005) Troy Williamson (Vikings, No. 7, 2005) Mike Williams (Lions, No. 10, 2005) Calvin Johnson (Lions, No. 2, 2007) Ted Ginn Jr. (Dolphins, No. 9, 2007) Darrius Heyward-Bey (Raiders, No. 9, 2009) Michael Crabtree (49ers, No. 10, 2009)
3 would make a QB decent, 11 would make him STINK
great odds.

Blackmon going 5th was not a steal. Claiborne going 6th was a steal. That the Jags were able to move up and passed on him puts a damper on getting Blackmon. But I'm plenty happy about it myself considering where Claiborne ended up.

Claiborne was the consensus best defensive player in the draft and considered the #2 overall prospect (behind only Luck) by most. That's just a fact no matter who I'm a fan of.

And for the record, I'm not a huge fan of the Cowboys moving up to get him. I'm thrilled he's a Cowboy, but after signing Carr in Free Agency and with Mike Jenkins coming back healthy, CB wasn't their biggest need and it cost their first two picks to get him.
That said, it was good value and I can't complain too much. I just don't think I'd have done it.

National Football Post: Not only does LSU CB Morris Claiborne fill a major void in the Dallas secondary, but the Cowboys might have landed the best prospect in the draft outside of Andrew Luck. Claiborne has true shutdown potential and should mature into one of the leagues best. Major props to the Cowboys for seeing a blue-chip prospect like Claiborne falling and going up and getting the best value in the top 10. NFL ceiling: Shutdown corner. NFL floor: Above-average coverman.
Dumbass.

And what did they say about Blackmon? Hmmm...EXACTLY what I said.
National Football Post: Credit to the Jaguars for moving up in the draft and landing the top talent at WR. The Oklahoma State standout has the ability to beat press coverage and make plays in the three-step game. However, as much as I like Jacksonville's aggressiveness, they would have been better served to take the more talented prospect in CB Morris Claiborne. NFL Ceiling: Anquan Boldin-type wideout. NFL floor: Michael Crabtree-type wideout.

Well who the heck is going to throw to the guy? i actually had a funny feeling the jags would trade for a second first rounder and grab Weeden, which they didn't do. Gabbert is a busto.

Very good point. This is like drafting a RB in the top 5 when you have the worst oline in the league. Just doesn't make much sense.

There were six elite prospects in this draft, they all went in the top six selections.
Andrew Luck and RG3 were expected to go 1, 2; everyone agreed on the order. Richardson, Kalil, Blackmon and Claiborne were supposed to go 3, 4, 5, 6 in some order. But no one agreed what order. The only way any of those six guys can be classified as a "steal" is if they dropped out of the top six.
The steal for Dallas is that they only had to trade a 2nd round pick to jump from 14 overall to 6 overall. Because according to the trade value chart, that trade was worth an additional pick (valued around a late 4th-rounder)...
Dallas received:
1st round, 6th overall (1,600 points)
St Louis received:
1st round, 14th overall (1,100 points)
2nd round, 45th overall (450 points)
Leaving 50 points on the table, the equivalent of the 122nd overall (27th pick in the 4th round).

Brandon Carr is supposed to be a good cover man (I say supposed to because I've never seen him play) but his stat sheet only has 8 INTs over the last four years. Which is only half the number of passes Terence Newman intercepted during the same time span; and that's saying a lot considering Newman was no ballhawk.
I know there's a lot more to coverage than a cornerback's interception stats but it's safe to say that Carr is no playmaker.
That's why I think the Morris Claiborne selection is a good pick up for Dallas. Claiborne brings ball skills / potential playmaking ability to the corner position, which is something the Cowboys have lacked for years.

I know Scott Wright's Draft Countdown had Robert Griffin III ranked as the #5 overall prospect.
The fact that RGIII is a quarterback boosts his draft value, but I don't believe that scouts and draft analysts factor player positions into their grading system.
I think it's just a matter of how you look at it.
