Three items for three arguments.
My first: The Good.
Chipper Jones. Announces retirement at the end of the year. He is forty and has stated this is the last hurrah.
I have always held Chipper in high esteem throughout his playing career and he has always been a great club house presense the younger guys can turn to.
And now, here he is in the twilight of his career hitting at a OPS+ rate of 157. He has 21 RBIs in 18 games.
He has shown he can still get it done. Despite all the injuries that has plagued him throughout, Chipper is still a big time threat at the dish.
It was really funny that Moyer, that can't hit 80 on the radar gun, was worried that Chipper was stealing and signaling signs to the hitter from second.
Chipper however stated that he never has and never will play that type of game.
For all the great Chipper has done in his career, to still give us a little something something to chuckle over is a GOOD thing.
"I've never relayed a sign at second base in my career and [Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki] said [Moyer's] signs are so complex that NASA couldn't steal them," Jones said.
Now that's funny right there!. next the Bad.

I'll keep my good in the baseball realm and even pull from last night. My good is how Bryce Harper responded to being drilled by Cole Hamels intentionally (Hamels admitted it after the game).
Bryce (who has been known for acting up in the minors) didn't say peep when he was hit. Instead he delivered a response by using his legs. Werth came up and hit a bloop single to left and instead of staying a second - he advanced to third on the throw by the left fielder to second and made it runners on first and third with 2 outs. Then to put the icing on the cake - he STOLE HOME on the pitcher when he threw a pick off throw to first.
Pure, solid baseball. He didn't throw a tantrum, he just made Hamels pay for intentionally putting him on base and then very aggressively scoring a run.
That was some old school - "that'll show you" baseball that showed a maturity that in the minors seemed to be missing. Kudos to the kid.

Kudos and Old School in one argument, Good for you.
I did like how Harper responded by not crying. However, the whole damn Baseball community is tired of hearing about Bryce Harper already.
Let's not call the kid a HOF'r yet just because he decided to show off his legs. If fact , had he been thrown out we would have all been saying what a selfish move he made trying to show the Phillies up. He will be lucky to not get drilled in the ear next time.
And, kudos for Old School Hamels for welcoming him to the Big Show and ADMITTING IT!
The Bad.
Minnesota Twins.
C'mon. The Twins were supposed to contend for their division. Are you kidding me?
Their pitching ERA is an abysmal 5.69. Carl Pavano is LEADING their starters with a 4.62.
Even their closer Capps has a whopping 4.50.
No wonder they are cellar dwelling.
Talking about bad, when a team's pitching staff has given up more earned runs than they have strike outs , that is not just bad....that SUCKS
And this year they certainly can't rely on their offense. Only the Pirates have scored fewer runs at the time of this post.
Yes Sir, the Twinkies are BAD TO THE BONE this year.
Lex-LOU-thor said 05/07, 04:35 PM
Well - nicely played - and Minnesota is worthy - as is the Boston Pitching staff - Offense scoring 5+ per game and pitching giving up 5.2 + per game..... And the Bryce Harper show - is very annoying for sure - I live in the DC area - and that is all I hear....
But I HAVE to go outside of baseball for the Bad of the Bad. Metta World Peace (a.k.a.) Ron Artest, and the thunder elbow that will possibly still cost a player the rest of his career. He changed his name to give inspiration to the younger generation to get along with others. Yet when he had the best opportunity to do it - he FAILED - miserably...
Metta means - (Met tay): is loving-kindness, friendliness, benevolence, amity, friendship, good will, kindness, close mental union (on same mental wavelength), and have an active interest in others in Buddhism.
Let alone what his "World Peace" transformation is what he is suppose to be experiencing. He won an award - but the benevolence was for giving money - nothing else, just money, no time, no other of the important things to show true charity.
As much as he was to have straightened his life out - he has crushed the meaning of his new namesake.

You stole my THUNDER but that's okay.
When I thought of this TD, the first two things that popped into my head was The GOOD that Chipper was providing and the UGLY that is the man called Metta.
I am going to stick with my original thought on this and explain why he fits the UGLY over the BAD.
UGLY is a descriptor more inclined to lead to one's mental state than the word BAD. And don't think for a minute that Metta World Peace does not have a screwed up mind.
He tries to lead everyone down the primrose path to righteousness with his name change but in reality he is still the same Ron Artest, Thug at Large.
He allows his undisciplined UGLY mind to rule his actions.
I understand taking up for your team mates, however, Kobe tried to explain it off by saying,
It's hard to get into a guy's head and know exactly what happened in that situation.
Please! It Does Not matter what was in his head its the action on the floor that counts.
I can Think of punching someone all day long and I'm good to go if I don't act on it.
The 7 game suspension was an UGLY joke as well. He should have been suspended without pay for the rest of the season.
GL!

Nicely done.
I'm going to change sports again. This time - hockey. The UGLY - the twitter comments about the Capitals player that scored the winning goal in the series for the Caps against the Bruins.
First - I am not going to assume that all the comments were from Bruins fans. It's too easy to dupe accounts and say you are a fan when you are not.
But the content of the comments was one of the UGLIEST displays of racist garbage that I've seen in a long time. To use the pejorative and vial references of the n word was over the top. Win or lose there is never a time to use that kind of trash on the social media sites for ALL to see.
It doesn't really need to be described any further. It was just gross and ugly.

What's up rich man? Dang, did you see the series against the Rockies?

Yep. Would have been a lot better if Hudson and Minor didn't get hit around, but can't complain about the sweep. I'm expecting our pitching to heat up and our offense to slow down and revert to the same team we were last season just with better middle relief.

I contribute part of that to Coor's field. Pitching is a lot straighter in that ball park. Huddy and Minor both rely on movement.

But when I saw Hamels hit Harper and Harper proceed to steal home after being praised for going first to third on a TWO OUT single, I knew that even though I love watching highlights of a Braves win, I better avoid ESPN and the MLB network for a couple days.

They're playing pretty well so far this season. But I can at least respect the Phillies even though I hate them. I hate the Mets and have no respect for them.

I've always hated the Nationals because even when they were terrible, they seemed to always beat the Braves and it cost us a shot at the playoffs one year. But I don't hate them as much as the Phillies or Mets.
I've never really hated the Marlins, always considered them to be a friendly rivalry.

In order of dislike from a Braves fan of over 40 years.
Mets
Phillies
Nats
Marlins
The early years of Chipper owning Shea and then the whole Rocker thing in NY. You gotta dislike the Mets the most.

I'd put the Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers and Twins before the Marlins.
