Illinois Should Bench Juice Williams and Name Eddie McGee the Starting Quarterback for the Fighting Illini

I've watched my fair share of Illinois football games this season and was on the bandwagon before it had wheels and a paved road but something became transparent to me before their loss to Iowa earlier today. The Freshman McGee nearly led Illinois to an upset over Missouri in the season opener when he threw for 257 yards in what was the best offensive output for Ron Zook's team this season and in the final drive against Iowa was more productive than Juice Williams was all game. Despite, the loss today, Eddie McGee Should Be Named the Starting Quarterback for the Illinois Fighting Illini over Juice Williams

How in the world can you say that??? Juice Williams is their QB and they shouldnt change that. Check out his season stats.

RAT 102.8
YDS 618
TD 5

The guy has great leadership and just look at the big games that he has WON.

2006
Michigan State (would of had more but the rest of the team sucked)

2007
Indiana
Penn State
Wisconsin

There will be more because this is only half way.

You are making this statement over ONE game. That being the Mizzou game that he threw an INT that made his team lose. That was the only game that he threw over 5 attempts. You are making this statement over 25 passes in the Mizzou game??? Rediculous.

He went 2 for 5 in todays game and in them 5 attempts??? he had an INT. Way to go, McGee.

Read my whole argument b4 you jump to conclusions.
Stats aren't the only prognsticator for success. In the games Illinois has won Williams has made shaky decisions and the passing game has been nn-existent. To put it into context, Rex Grossman took the Chicago Bears the Super Bowl, but that doesn't make him a great qb.
McGee adds an element that Juice Williams has not displayed. A 102 rating in the NFL is fantastic, unfortunately this is college football and a 102 rating is beyond horrible.
The final drive he orchestrated would never have had to happen if Juice had been productive in the first 3 and a half quarters and if McGee's 83 yard TD pass on his 1st pass hadn't been called back by a fluke penalty.
Juice Williams' incompetance in the passing game has been masked by the defense and the running game.
When you actually watch the game, McGee can scramble, and can throw on the run with pinpoint accuracy and velocity. and is already a more accurate passer than Juice. Case in point, Juice Williams has yet to thrown for over 120 yards in a game to date and has thrown under 100 yards on 4 occasions.
McGee's INT was ill-advised but he's not perfect but he's better than Williams.

1) It seems to me as if you have an excuse for every point I made. Whatever though.

2) For you to compare Juice Willams to Rex Grossman is idiotic. NEVER EVER compare a NCAA QB to an NFL QB only because there is a humongo difference from NCAA - NFL.

3) You say a 102 QB Rating is bad BUT McGee is not much better. The big thing here is that McGee has a ton less attempts... so his rating will continue to go DOWN.

4) McGee has only 37 NCAA attempts in his entire NCAA career. Dont you think that it is a bit early to make such big statements? McGee is a freshman and as proven MANY times... you very rarely have a good team with a fresh-meat QB. Very rarely.

5) I noticed that you stressed Williams not throwing for that many yards. Did you ever think that it might be that way because he averages only 15 attempts per game?

6) You state that McGee has better accuracy along with many other things, when McGee has again only 37 attempts. But in reality, Williams has better accuracy. He has better comp%, plus, he has thrown the ball 3x more than that other fool.

Give it a little time before you start playing that regular blame game on QBs.

I put it in context as to how their teams win without productive quarterbacks. They don't throw very often because Juice is a liability. The one game McGee did play in they threw over 30 times. He wouldn't be the first freshman t be successful plus he redshirted so he's had had a year in the system.

All I'm saying is that from observation McGee presents all of Juice Williams' strengths plus more. He doesn't put touch on his throws and he's often off target. Both make mistakes but McGee is the better qb for this team.

Also, in the Mizzou game.

He had 257 yards, yes. But he also only completed 52% of passes with 2 INTs and only 1 TD. The INTs kill. It cost him the game.

They guy puts the program back on the map and now you want to bench him. This is just ridiculous the whole team had a bad game on the road but I guess you are one of those people who always blame the QB.

Report Offensive Comment

with Juice williams there game plan is run...not throw...there a running team so when you say McGee should be in bc he throws 257 yds is ob sured. He had a rating of 57% and lost the game for them in Mizzou

Report Offensive Comment

thats because the defense allowed 40 points but the offense scored 34. I Iuv Juice Williams make no mistake-- but its become clear to me that McGee is better by watching them play. Look at the numbers 2. Ron Zook put this team back on the map not Juice Williams. McGee can run too don't forget. And by the way RON ZOOK pulled Williams in the final drive of of THIS game.

BTW last season he completed 39% of his passes, the rest of the team wasn't the only one who sucked.

Report Offensive Comment

he was a freshman and has CLEARLY matured

Report Offensive Comment

why did it show my arguement as his???

If u read my blog yu'd see I'm pretty knowledgable abut sprts thats why I'm undefeated. My opponents usually agree I make good arguments.

Don't accuse me of cheating just cuz I'm undefeated.
