Bear with me on this one; it's somewhat complicated. Here's the scenario; you own an NBA team, an NFL team, and a MLB team. In this apparent fantasy world of which I speak, the NBA, the NFL, and MLB are each starting from scratch; there's going to be a league-wide fantasy-style draft of all players in each of those three sports, and you have the option of picking first with two of your teams. But the team you choose not to pick first with will be picking last in it's respective league.

Arg 1) Name a league are you picking first in, and why.
Arg 2) Name the other league are you picking first in, and why.
Arg 3) Name the players you'd use the #1 overall picks on, and why.

I would take one of the first rounders for my NBA team. It's simple math. The NBA only allows a maximum of 15 players on a given team, compared with 40 for MLB and 53 for the NFL. In other words the NBA's overall talent pool is significantly smaller than that of MLB/NFL, so the importance of not drafting 30th cannot be overstated.

The value of a NBA #1 pick also increases due to the fact that NBA players are much easier to predict than MLB/NFL players from season to season.

I am picking 1st in the NBA.

The NBA has the fewest starting positions, thinnest rosters, and fewest superstars.

In watching the NBA in recent years, we have learned Superstars make the league. They raise revenue and you need at least 1 superstar to push your team over the edge to be a true contender.

After the top tier of superstars in the NBA, the talent pool begins to drop, and with such little bench/starters it would be hard to make up the talent difference.

And thus, it is imperative in the situation to have the #1 pick in the NBA.

My second #1 pick would go to my NFL team, no doubt about it. There are a couple reasons for this which I will outline for you right now.

Reason 1; MLB has a shiiiitload of talent to choose from. Every MLB team has affiliated teams spread out amongst the Minor League ranks. We're talking Triple-A, Double-A, Class-A, High-A, Rookie League, you name it. The hierarchy of Minor League Baseball contains many more players than MLB itself, and between the Minors and the Majors there are countless players available. Matter of fact some of the players who would go early in this fantasy draft are currently in the lowest levels of the Minors, so the actual talent pool is huge and not at all limited to the Show itself. A #1 pick in a MLB fantasy draft is borderline worthless when compared to a #1 pick in an NFL fantasy draft.

Reason 2; the NFL is a QB-driven League. Much more than any other sport, the NFL has demonstrated that there is one position above all, and that position (QB) is a neccessity if your team intends on winning a Championship at some point. Drafting 30th in the NFL would mean your team will be fundamentally flawed because the good QBs would be long gone by then.

This really is an extremely poor put together TD since I opted to follow the guidelines. In hindsight, the setup is geared towards an easy win for Marlins. Honestly, how do you argue with Captain Obvious? This TD might as well been "Who is the GOAT NBA SG" and then after suckered in and following the rules he says Michael Jordan..Then he broke his rules on 2nd argument by posting his 3rd argument in the 2nd..

Anyways, I agree, NFL is the next league in which I'd take the #1 pick.

However, I don't really understand him bringing up fantasy sports. And the next paragraph mentions a QB driven league. In a "fantasy draft" the top picks are typically RB's, so knowing that aspect it confuses me of his bringing up fantasy.

His reason #2 is slightly off. A great QB can push you over the edge of greatness and good, but a great QB isn't required always required (B.Johnson/T.Dilfer anyone?). I argue a good defense is key to winning. Who is the better QB, E.Manning or Brady? But who has won 2 Superbowls over the other? The reason, a much better Defense.

Why does Peyton only have 1 ring? His defense has always sucked. But to be fair, his Defense won his SB game.

Your MJ analogy is dumb and irrelevant.

he broke his rules on 2nd argument by posting his 3rd argument in the 2nd

I did no such thing.

I don't really understand him bringing up fantasy sports

WTF are you talking about? I said the premise of the TD was that your teams are participating in a fantasy-STYLE draft. Doesn't have anything to do with actual fantasy football except for the drafting style, where every players is a FA unlike in real life. It's fantasy-STYLE. Hope you get it now.

I argue a good defense is key to winning

It isn't 2001 anymore, buddy. Watch an NFL season some time. You'll get it. Or just check out where the Packers, Patriots, Saints, and Giants ranked in terms of total defense last year. I'll give you a hint - none were ranked higher than 24th, and the Pats and Pack were 31 and 32, respectively.

Anyway, now that the TD is **** up I would've picked LeBron and Rodgers with my overall #1 picks. LeBron just because he's a unique blend of athleticism and skill, the likes of which we've probably never seen before. My other #1 pick would be Aaron Rodgers because the NFL is a QB-driven League and Rodgers is the best.

For basketball I'm going to take Kevin Durant.Through each's first 5 seasons, their numbers are very similar and each are the best players in their conferences. If you compare LeBrons first years to KD's,both crazy impressive but KD was the slightly more efficient player.I'm taking KD because he is younger, with less miles on his knees in this battle of 1A vs 1B debate.

Now I'm sure you've confused yourself on the point of this TD.Is it fantasy play or not?Since you drafted Aaron Rodgers #1 overall I'm going to go with it's not fantasy based.

Now this may be a bit of a stretch, but hear me out. I'd take Cam Newton #1 in NFL in a FRESH START league.*I do not think he is #1 player in NFL*

Cam can do it all, crazy arm strength, big size, quick legs, can throw on the run or in the pocket. His versatility gets him drafted #1 overall due to we have no clue what players will slip to build around the QB or how good the line will be if you look for play makers early. The O-Line can make or break a team/QB.

Cam Newton is the LeBron James of the NFL in reference to freak size/ability.He can take a hit better the Rodgers, and I feel he'd be the better corner stone.

Clown question, huh. Can anybody say "Harper?"

The large text in right's avatar directly describes his first argument.

That was an agruement ONLY if you use the term 'agruement' loosly. It was more of an agreeement than anything else.

So, yeah epic fail is about right!!!

Very neutralizing first arg by right. This is now a two arg TD.

That is a very clever spin on a sports cliche.

So when you accept a throwdown, the point is NOT to simply cut and paste the argument of the other guy and agree with him.

You have to admit though, its not much of a debate. The drastic difference between the number 1 player in the NBA (LeBron James) vs. the 29th best player in the league (say Andrew Bynum) is a huge difference. LeBron makes you an instant title contender, Bynum does not. Whereas in the NFL or MLB, the player pool is a little closer. Having Aaron Rodgers (no. 1 player in NFL possibly) vs. LeSean McCoy (possibly 32nd best player in the league) doesn't make your odds of being a title contender that much better (that's not to say that a QB isn't more valuable then a RB but comparing Rodgers to McCoy is not as big a drop off as LeBron to Bynum).

Surprisingly, neither side really made that argument (right attempted to argue this point but put little effort in explaining it). Come on, put some effort into this TD at least or just let it die.

Let me preface this by stating that I have no idea what the talent depth looks like in MLB.

I agree with you on the NBA. But IMO, I think that in today's NFL you need an elite quarterback to compete for championships. I'd detail out why but I want to see the round of 2nd arguments first.

Change that from "compete for" to "win".

Tebow was winning....so yea... guess he defies odds. Oh, and Alex Smith was winning, but more so due to his defense than his ability.

NBA and NFL.

LeBron and Luck.

How do I argue against captain obvious?

And since you claim you got an auto vote against you, what do you call the 2 for you?

Hypocrite.

Your opening statement did not direct which way you were going to be leaning, so how am I to predict which way you were going to go?

You suckered in, and then went easy win attempt. Pretty sad. You're a joke.

Only thing that will be able to argue is going to be in the 3rd argument, but you've already brought in your friends to vote for you, so no matter how bad I smack you around in the 3rd, it won't matter...
