Don't get me wrong Russell Westbrook is a very talented PG, but I am defending the fact that I think Durant is better suited with a pass first PG.
In past seasons we've seen Westbrook take over games and have a negative affect. However, we were all forgiving because he was young; he was making rookie mistakes. He's been in four years now with Kevin Durant.
Kevin Durant has blossomed into a solid go-to-scorer and I think Durant would better be suited with a pass first PG.

You have to love overreaction.
One day the Thunder were world beaters.
Now they're down 1-3 in the Finals and suddenly multiple things are wrong with them?
Now it's the PG.
They're fine with the PG they have.
No need to make that kind of change, move Westbrook to SG or even - gasp - trade him.
While they need to work on developing Westbrook's decision making (less turnovers) and overall facilitating game (more assists), fact of the matter is that:
- They are in the Finals
- They beat Dallas, Los Angeles and the Spurs in these playoffs
- Durant and Westbrook are 23. It's scary
- They will only come stronger. And that's scary part 2
- Durant won the scoring title as it is. What do you want? What do you expect? More scoring from him?
No. This team needs to keep Westbrook and Durant happy, keep Harden and Ibaka (luxury tax issues looming in the future) and simply improve the role players around them.
Improve their individual games.
They are not even on their prime yet.
Doc Simps said 06/20, 01:22 PM
Yes both players have not reached their prime, however, with the way durant is evolving into a superstar, he needs a facilitator.
There is nothing wrong with Westbrooks game at all. He would be better suited elsewhere. Its been five years now and they have yet to show signs of making it work for the long term. There have been games where they look great together, but there isn't any signs of consistency.
I'm not freaking out because they are down in the series, this has been a problem since the beginning.
Durant needs the ball in his hands 60-70% of the time, and if he averages 35-50ppg in the coming seasons then good for him. he's capable of that.
When westbrook is on, he's on, as shown in last nights game. But when he's off... he's off, also shown in last nights game.
Westbrook didn't feed the ball to durant enough last night in the 1st half to allow the thunder a chance to win the game.
No. The team needs to keep Durant happy and use westbrook in a trade. This is Durants team, he needs a decent big man to get that inside-outside game going. Thats what he needs.

"with the way durant is evolving into a superstar"
"has blossomed into a solid go-to-scorer"
Are you kidding?
Durant is the scoring champion, 2nd place in MVP voting, 1st all-nba team and is in the NBA Finals.
He's already a superstar, not merely "solid".
"if he averages 35-50ppg in the coming seasons"
Are you actually saying that someone in the modern NBA can average 50 points per game?
"use westbrook in a trade"
It makes absolutely zero sense to trade a 23-year-old star who has been arguably the 2nd most important player in getting the Thunder in the Finals.
Did you ever think that Westbrook's penetrations to the hoop actually help free up space for Durant?
Develop Durant, Harden, Ibaka and Westbrook. Individually and chemistry wise.
And you'll have a championship contender there for the upcoming years.

I agree with that, however I think durant would be more effective with a scoring big man(inside-out game). A sessions like PG would be perfect for Durant. There are a lot of PG's in this league that can penetrate and kick the ball out.

signs of making it work long term? Are you kidding? Does improving each year, advancing to the conference finals last year, advancing to the NBA Finals this year, and being very close in each game not count as "signs of making it work"
You must be f'n crazy

IMO the two compliment each others play pretty well. What they need is their supporting cast to quit being to freaking Hot/Cold.....

I think people using those kind of stats are just looking at numbers instead of the momentum of the game. Westbrook took his team out of the offense in Game 2 and there were legit reasons for criticism. Then compare to last night when Durant couldn't seem to get open and Westbrook pretty much carried the team at times. The momentum and what the team needed was way different and they did need Westbrook to carry them last night. Durant is very good, but he allows himself to be taken out of the game at times.
What I wish is that Westbrook would eliminate the fast-break pull-up jump shot when he has numbers and/or a teammate who is on a hot streak.
I don't mind if he shoots more shots as long as he's properly reading what his team needs from him or if they should be getting the ball more.

Am I wrong in thinking a Russell Westbrook for Rajon Rondo trade straight up would be great for both teams?

The biggest thing the Thunder could do to improve would be to get something better in place of Kendrick Perkins. This guy offers almost nothing. If he got paid like Nazr Mohammad it wouldn't matter, but he makes big money, doesn't contribute on offense, is WAY OVERRATED on defense, and it looks like he's not trying very hard on defense when he gallops back instead of sprinting. Where are the rebounds this guy is suppposed to produce? Wasn't he supposed to be the missing piece instead of the big waste?

That's the best point made, IMO.
When a guy wins the scoring title (or three straight) he's getting the ball plenty.
