8-8.
The Panthers lost 5 games by a combined 25 points last year. This is a team that played well, bu the defense cost them several games.
However, they will be vastly improved this season. They didn't go out and sign a bunch of name defensive free agents to shore up the defense. They just return a key player that missed all but 1 game last season in Jon Beason. Beason will help shore up a weak spot last year at LB. Carolina also drafted Luke Kuechly with the 9th overall pick to help Beason out and play LB as well. So, it isn't going to be all on Beason's shoulders.
Cam Newton had an exceptional rookie season as he proved he's quite capable of becoming an elite QB in the NFL. He may not be as good this season as he battles the notorious sophomore slump a lot of QB's encounter, but the offense is still potent. They made a nice free agent pickup in signing Mike Tolbert to play FB.

All right, well I see the Panthers going 7-9 this season and being just out of the playoff race. The one change I am going to make is that the Panthers will lose to either the Saints or the Falcons both times they play them.
I am going to have to go with them losing both times to the Falcons this year. The Falcons have beaten the Panthers all 4 times in the past 2 years and the least they have won by is 8.
The Falcons have also made some nice strides this offseason to make their already good team even better. They have approved their defense by getting Lofa Tatupa and re-signing Snelling. Though they didn't get much in the draft, their defense is getting better and their offense is getting more experience under their belt.
Against the Panthers, their new line backers will not be the most important part of the game. Their cornerbacks will be put to a lot of work against Roddy White and Julio Jones who burnt them most of last year.
I still don't see the Panthers being a .500 team this year and think that they still need another year to reach the barrier.

On October 16, 2011, Michael Turner ran for 139 yards on 27 carries against the Panthers. As a team, the Falcons ran for 166 yards in a 31-17 win.
I think Carolina having a much improved LB corps will help them and there is no denying it will help their 25th ranked rush defense.
On December 11, 2011, the Falcons only ran for 86 yards, but they were trailing by 16 points and had to overcome a huge deficit....so they were passing to get back into the game.
The Panthers lost 5 games last year by a combined 25 points. To think they can't win 2 more games this season is just ridiculous.
"They have approved their defense by getting Lofa Tatupa."
No. They didn't improve. They lost LB Curtis Lofton to NFC South rival New Orleans. They had to find a replacement for Jonathan Vilma and the Saints (arguably) upgraded that position.
Tatupa is a decent replacement, but he will be 30 when the season begins and he has played in just 21 games since 2009.

A classic case of...the team WILL be better, but their record probably will not.
But hey, at least they get Tampa twice.

If this TD was a horse it would have been shot long ago.
Unless it was on HBO.
Then they'd have cancelled it.

I'm lost. They'll be VASTLY improved, yet they made no improvements other than a fullback? A position that the NFL doesn't even utilize anymore? And they'll go from 6-10 to 8-8..and that's VASTLY improved?

I see the Panthers beating the Cowboys (Dallas defense won't be secto defend Cam and Romo will be throwing INTs) and Eagles (Vick will be hobbled with injuries) IMO.
