Let's talk about the AL & NL awards now that there have been some injuries to key players this week.

I have 2 crystal balls. I'm letting you hold one. Now if we each rub my balls, what do we see?

AL MVP: This might be the toughest choice of the bunch. Several great candidates. I'll go with Robinson Cano.

Cano could break the record for HR by a 2nd baseman (43 by Davey Johnson) as well as become only the 3rd 2nd baseman with 90 extra base hits (Rogers Hornsby) or more than 360 total bases (Hornsby).

NL MVP: Andrew McCutchen

Votto just got put on the DL. Not only is he the leader for the award right now (IMO), the Pirates currently trail the Reds by 1 game for the division. The Pirates can take that lead and Andrew can continue hitting the ball. That makes for a great year at the plate for a guy on a team that is FINALLY relevant again.

AL Cy Young: Chris Sale

Another tough decision, but he is such a pleasant surprise, I think he'll get some votes for that as well. Big name or not, he's a contender.

NL Cy Young: Dickey

Never thought I'd have a TD where I say "rub my balls" and Dickey in the same argument.

AL MVP is Josh Hamilton, he is leading his team to victories and makes his team better and thats what a MVP does. That one was also my toughest but he has a 300 average with 27 homeruns and 76 ribbies, you win baseball games with those numbers.

NL MVP is Andrew McCuchant. I agree with that. He is the reason why the Pirates with win the NL Central, and a little help from Vottos injury. He is a great young player who will have a great Carear.

AL CY Young is CC Sabathia He is having another great year for the Yankees. He is a big part of why the Yankees are in first place. He is just a great pitcher.

NL CY Young is Dickey. This was a tough decision for me between him and Stephan Strasburg but Dickey has been more dominant this year. He has has 2 1-hitters. Stasburg is gaurenteed to win another soon and i think the voters will see that and look at Dickey and say he still was a better pitcher this year.

Sabathia? No way was I expecting that.

Verlander and Weaver are both having better seasons (as is Sale). Heck, even David Price is.

Sabathia is 5th best as of right now (at best) and missed just about 3 weeks due to injury. It was his first trip to the DL, could it be sign of things to come? Perhaps his big frame is finally catching up to him?

Let's look at some key numbers/rankings for Sabathia this year:

ERA - 10th

Wins - 8th (tie)

WHIP - 18th

Opp. BA - 26th

Some of the Cy Young favorites with a better WHIP and lower Opp. BA ??

Weaver, Sale, Price and Verlander

Oh, and all 4 of those guys have more wins and a better ERA

In short, Sabathia doesn't lead the 4 other guys in any relevant category. Do you really think he is going to make up that much ground in the next 2 months to take the lead in voting? I don't.

Hamilton, however, is a great choice. I was trying to decide between him, Cano and Trout.

The reason I went with Cano though, is that he is on pace to break records. Arguably the best 2B of all time (Hornsby) holds those records and they are very old. That holds weight for voters and they will give him the nod.

I get what your saying but Sabathia is a dominant pitcher. Yes he was out for 3 weeksand still has those stats. He is tied with verlander for wins with 10 but without injury he could have 12 maybe more. The second half of the year he gets those 3 weeks back and he will have 12 plus more wins. And with his starts he starts against the A's, Mariners Twins, etc. He has an easier schedule than any of the other pitcher. And that alshttp://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=nyy#y=2012&m=7&am p;calendar=DEFAULTCano leads him ino means his ERA could drop .50 points or more.

With Hamilton i think voters will say he did something that greats like Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, Ted Williams and Hank Aaron couldnt do. Thats what gives him an edge. Cano has a great year so far and He probably will break those records, but Hamilton has had a better year in almost all stats. Cano leads in Average, Total Bases, Doubles, Hits and Runs, but Hamilton leads in all others and by a good margin.

Sabathia IS a dominant pitcher. But that's fairly irrelevant. We're talking about who we think will win the awards.

Not who is great.

Now who deserves it as of today.

Who will end up winning it?

Sabathia will not. He hasn't been better than several pitchers so far this year. Picking him over Price, Verlander and Weaver is crazy. I'm going with Sale because he's got the numbers to match/beat these other guys... plus he is fairly "random" and playing for a 1st place team.

---------------

Hamilton is doing what, exactly... that nobody else has done? I missed your point. What didn't Aaron, babe or Williams do that Hamilton has done this year?

If Cano breaks records, that counts for something. Hamilton is not going to break any records. If their numbers are fairly close and the teams are both in first... you have to give the nod to a guy who breaks records by Hornsby. They've stood that long for a reason.

Hamilton has hit 4 homeruns in a game this year that none of those legends have ever done.

And Sabathia has his team in first place too.

Yes ive heard that Cano is gonna break records in every single argument. Got any other reason like his stats, but you cant argue those because Hamiltons are better.

Sale has some great stats but at the end of the year Sabathia's stats will be better.

And Cano has other players better then him like maybe Melky and Trumbo? They both have been having phenominal years, but just not as good as Hamilton.

This is predictions im thinking later on and your thinking right now and thats the difference.
Sabathia is a second half of the season pitcher. His stats will get better. We cant tell with Sale's because he is so young.

Time to shake off some rush. Hopefully I'm not too far out of practice :-p

I'd prefer 2 or more changes. You should be able to make at least 2. There are some good contenders out there.

Rust* ugh. At least I made the spelling error in the comments section!

I have a change at every spot other than AL Cy Young. If it's still up tomorrow, I'll take it. Really too tired to post an argument right now, and unless it's a topic I'm just dying to argue, I'd rather give someone else a chance than sit on for 12 hours.

Sale>>>Sabathia

No probs bro. Hopefully this guy isn't a zombie TDer and gets it done!

I would have probably argued Weaver instead of Sabathia. I would have changed Dickey to Cain, but that's probably a homer move. Either Trout or Hamilton were better choices for AL MVP. Hard to argue McCutcheon.

Cain isn't a homer pick at all. I almost went with him, but Dickey has him beat in most statistical categories. I still almost went Cain, because his impact is critical, considering the year Lincecum is having. Cain and Melky are saving the Giants this year.

I could have argued Melky for NL MVP, but his lack of power numbers combined with the monster season McCutcheon is having would make that a tough one to defend.

Well assuming Votto comes back in a month, he'd still get more votes than Melky...

I don't think Melky will sniff a top 3 finish, even though he COULD deserve one.

I can't mock, because I think I spelled it like he was the love child of Ashton Kutcher and 80's sitcom star Nancy McKeon....
