Fannation Fans should not make sexist cruel remarks about people who are going through a life threatenting battle.

Many here on Fannation like to stir the pot, create controversy and lively debate. I do it all the time. Boasting, crowing, putting down teams and players, all serve some purpose on here. Sometimes the remarks get racy and sexist, but it seems that for the most part, people have thick skin and give as good as they get. Once in while you get off color comments -- but this is a wide open sports site, and that is to be expected. I do not believe anyone does it in a truly spiteful way. And who would get serious about anything that takes place on this site. If it starts to bother you, you just turn off your computer and go away. And as angry as people get with each other, they keep coming back, because it is fun.

But there are topics and areas where we should not tread. Bigotry or making crass fun of someone going through a life threatening disease is one of those. I challenged a member of Fannation to this TD to publicly discourange him from doing this. The wife of Brett Favre has been fighting Breast Cancer. On this particular thread was this post: "I wonder if she left the part out about me fathering one of her children" Call me old fashioned, but this is not right. Am I right

Boasting, crowing, putting down teams and players? You left out putting down other fans, which recently you have tried, yet remain unsuccessful at, doing to me. You want to talk about something that should not be tread upon and yet you are so very quick to judge me, whom you do not know. Making an off color comment about someone I do not know is just the same. So there, I'm a hypocrit. But if you getting more votes than me means you are not one as well, then you have a very bloated sense of yourseself.

I have said all I am going to say. All I ask of Fannation is to not kill the messenger. I have said all I am going to say. This is not about me. It is not about being a hypocrite. It is not about anything I have done, or will done, it is simply what you did and what you said about a 35 aged woman fighting for her life against breast cancer.

This will be a good judge of the character of people on Fannation
Amanda - you are supposedly a Christian - state your position on the argument only

So now this is about the entire FAN-nation now is it? So you are going on record by saying if you aren't with me you are against me, and thus beneath me? Some christian you are bro. You take one comment out of context, in lieu of everything you have said in the past to me and about me, and try to make an example of ME?

Then, instead of handling your misgivings like a man, you take the cowards way out, post a throwdown, and when the numbers are not exactly in your favor, you run and hide. Blame everyone else for not seeing it your way? Talk about classless.

HOw have I taken you comment out of context. if you think it was polite and respectful to comment on Mrs Favre in that way, just say so. If you think it was a slip of the tongue and a misplaced comment - man up and just retract it the comment and this TD is over.

What you talking about running and hiding I am right here

Anyone who votes for you is voting for crass behavior towards individuals with life threatening afflictions. If Fannation cannot tell the difference - Sorry group

There you go again, inciting hatred where there should not be any. Blame other people for my transgression, if you can call it that, just because they don't agree with you. Sure the comment was not meant to be polite nor respectful, that's why I said it like that. I could have said it another way, how about this. "Deana Favre is hot. I want to have sex with her." Is that better? Is that more respectful?

Calling AgentOrange - your personal throwdown is waiting. I just voted for myself so I am winning.

that was uncalled for. I hate people who mkae jokes, like those about Terry Fox. I am glad he gets called out for it. And AgentOrange, it isn't like he insulted you, he just said that you shouldn't say stuff like that.

October 15, 2007  02:48 PM ET

It's one thing to tease and insult other fans like Larry B does (we all do it to some degree). It's another thing to write that comment about Deanna Favre.

There are limits. Larry B has never crossed them to my knowledge, and if AgentOrange really did write that (link, maybe?), he is scum.

October 15, 2007  02:48 PM ET

shouldnt this be a blog?

October 15, 2007  02:49 PM ET

No. It shouldn't be a blog. It gets more recognition here and needs to be pointed out.

October 15, 2007  02:50 PM ET

Well red sox, if you really think I am all hot and bothered for him calling me out, you are mistaken. He has recently made it a point to single me out with insults and off color remarks in various threads for no apparent reason than his opinion of me....I get called out by him for doing the same? I don't buy it....

October 15, 2007  02:50 PM ET

or maybe you could just message the person privately instead of making a huge deal of it and drawing attention to a negative comment.

October 15, 2007  02:52 PM ET

OK, before I make any judgements...did you write that comment about Favre's wife? If not then you are just another guy who insults people here. None of us are innocent of that.

October 15, 2007  02:52 PM ET

Any attempt to suppress freedom of speech is wrong. Who cares what the guy said about Bret Favre's wife? Neither one of you know her or will ever meet her.

Just as I read the joke on this site one time that said "Darrent Williams could take a hit....too bad he couldn't take a bullet". Crass? Of course. Off limits? Not in the slightest.

Brett Favre in the flesh everyone!!!!! Scum huh? Exactly my point, you are no better than me or larry or anyone....way to reinforce my point, eventhough the score will undoubtly show Mr B here being the self richeous one...

October 15, 2007  02:53 PM ET

And honestly, what does joking about him fathering her children have do do with breast cancer?

October 15, 2007  02:55 PM ET

Larry B's comments are acceptable because his comments don't make people sick to their stomachs. They may aggravate people but that is a big difference. Of course you're able to write whatever you like, but if people take offense there will be repercussions.

TD Ninja, the Darrent Williams quote should be off limits. Anyone who finds it funny is disgusting. When is it funny for a 25 year old with a bright future to be killed?

October 15, 2007  02:57 PM ET

I didn't see anything making fun of her breast cancer.

October 15, 2007  02:57 PM ET

Whether it is funny or not is not important. What is important is that you think you can place limits on freedom of speech. Just because YOU think it is disgusting doesn't mean it should be off limits.

And honestly, what sort of repercussions? You gonna type in all caps when you address the offender so he can see how really mad you are?

Who exactly are you to judge? Listen here Jesus, let he who has not sinned cast the first stone....

I think your sin is vanity....

October 15, 2007  02:59 PM ET

This has nothing to do with First Amendment Rights because we aren't passing a rule saying that you can't say certain things.

The repercussions are things like this, along with people not liking you. Yeah, it doesn't really matter, but people always say "I can do whatever I want" on this site, yet seemed surprised when people get mad about it.

And honestly, what mentally healthy non-prepubescent would find that Darrent Williams remark NOT disgusting?

And honestly Larry, why should there be limits just because the guy was famous? Or the woman happens to be married to a famous guy? Yet at the same time you say you are allowed to make fun of people here on fannation, and I guess that's because they are not famous?

October 15, 2007  03:03 PM ET

I have already said I provoke people, Orange. I am well aware of that. That is different from your remark.

I can judge because I disagree with your remarks. I can judge you and anyone else because it is my right to do so. I find what you say despicable, and I am not alone.
