Great fight tonight. I'll take Ward. Dawson is coming down in weight, he should be weaker. He's also fighting in Oakland which is Ward's hometown. This is fight between two defensive specialist who lack power, so it's likely to go the distance. A close decision favors Ward. Dawson is often not active enough.

A win by Ward can put him at the top of the P4P rankings. He'll be motivated. He's an underappreciated fighter. Dawson has the size, but I don't think it will factor much. Ward can fight inside and out and he is much faster.

Ward UD 12

for the sake of an argument, since the fight's over, i just wanted to go over some things.

A win by Ward can put him at the top of the P4P rankings.

NO WAY

Mayweather and Pacquaio fight over that #1 spot on a regular, and they're not budging. Ward had a very impressive win tonight, and he'll shoot up the rankings, but he won't "top" them. #

S.O.G 4 life!

Ward won. Forfeit.

On a side note, you've had almost 3,000 throwdowns? I hope somebody is paying you to do this.

No, nobodies paying me to do this.

I have been on here for 5 years. I'm a sports geek, shoot me!

I stand by my words, Andre Ward will not "top" the p4p rankings. That spots up for Manny or Floyd, nobody else.

Actually Ring Magazine has the top spot vacant and Ward is now #3. But that's hogwash, he's clearly the best fighter in the world.

However that's not what the TD is about. I picked Ward. Ward won. Why are you not forfeiting?

Because, Ward's #3, told you he wasn't going to be #1.

Manny?

Floyd?

THEN ward.

What do you mean "at the top" of the P4P rankings? Ward's already at number 5.
I can see a decision win moving him over Donaire but I don't think it puts him about Martinez yet.
I think he'd have to knock out Bad Chad to crack the top 3.

Yoda, I told you Ward would outbox him, i just didn't expect like that!!!

A good fight by Ward, I can see him move into 2nd on the P4P list after Manny's controversial fight.

this is why I have to vote left....Ward EASILY passed Pac on the p4p list....since both arguments were that Ward would win, the extra stuff about the effect his win would have needs to be weighed...since PCH says "NO WAY" to Ward moving past Pac, gotta go the other way...

September 10, 2012  09:19 AM ET

BTW - PCH, Pac hasn't been #2 on p4p lists since his loss to Bradley...the very statement that Mayweather and Pac are always 1 and 2 is blatantly false...

actually, looking back at some older rankings, Pac dropped out of the #2 spot after a shakey and extremely debatable win over Marquez in their 3rd fight, so basically, Pac hasn't been #2 on p4p lists in almost a year...

Ward should be the #1 P4P right now. Floyd and Pac are both a bit past their prime now.

Floyd is past his prime? Based on what?

he probably just read a bad article and decided to regurgitate whatever crap the article said without bothering to investigate or research the matter....

Some would argue that Cotto is on the slide and Mayweather didn't looks spectacular against him in the last fight so they translate that to Mayweather being on the slide as well....I say "they" because I am not one of them...

Here's the updated official pound for pound rankings. Personally, I think Floyd should be ranked over Manny right now rather than sharing the top spot. Marquez couldn't touch Floyd for a second but was able to arguable beat Manny. I also won't hold the Timothy Bradley decision against Manny too much BUT I do think Manny was coasting a little in those late rounds.

September 13, 2012  11:53 AM ET

Anyway, 2 decent fights this weekend.

Canelo shouldn't really have any trouble with his opponent but it'll be interesting to see Canelo's mindset in there given that he's only 1 fight away from some money fights.

I think Martinez will handle Chavez Jr. but there could be some interesting moments in the early rounds. Chavez Jr. did finally step it up in his last fight (even though they were protecting him for a LONG time until that fight).

September 13, 2012  06:47 PM ET

Can the two be mashed together to make Andre Dawson?

September 16, 2012  03:04 AM ET

Ward is the easy prediction there. He is just better than Dawson in almost every way not to mention was fighting at home and at his weight.

Ward should be #2 P4P. Pac has totally slipped. Sure he probably should have gotten the node over Bradley but he didn't look great in that fight and even slowed down in the later rounds which is very unlike him. If he can't bring his pressure he doesn't have the boxing skills to do much else.

P4P should read
1. Mayweather
2. Ward
3 Martinez
4 Pac
5 Juan Manuel Marquez
6 Timothy Bradley
7 Wladimir Klitschko
8 Nonito Donaire [why is he so high on so many lists? Who has he beat?]
9 Carl Froch [sure he lost of Ward but has faced EVERYONE and beat most of them]
10 Cotto [With his new trainer he is a better fighter. Mayweather saw a much more disciplined fighter than Pac did.]
