That's a clown award, bro.

Bryce Harper shouldn't have won the 2012 National League Rookie of the Year Award.

Harper had a nice rookie season. He hit .270 and got on base at a .340 clip. He also finished the season with 22 homers and 59 runs batted in.

Not spectacular numbers by any stretch, but nice enough. Nice, but not good enough to win the RoY, in my opinion.

Because Wade Miley should've won the award.

Miley went 16-11 with a 3.33 ERA for a Diamondbacks team that finished 81-81 and had a run scored/allowed differential of +46. Miley finished 5 games over .500 personally on an extremely mediocre team which wound up trading off some nice talent mid-season.

More Miley stats:

194.2 IP
1.182 WHIP
.255 BA allowed
6.7 K/9

Point being, Miley was a more critical piece of his team than was Harper.

Let's be honest: Harper won the award because everyone knows who he is. People recognize his eye black and his mohawk. We remember the SI cover stories from when Harper was just a 16 year old HS student.

We aren't as familiar with Miley.

But Miley's accomplishments were more impressive and meant more to his teams' chances at success.

Harper didn't deserve RoY.

Good luck

I disagree with you and say that Bryce Harper should have won the Rookie of the Year Award.

I think what hurt, and definitely should, Wade Miley, was that he pitched last season for eight games, seven starts and 40 innings. He posted a 4-2 record with a 4.50 ERA and an 89 ERA+. His WHIP was listed as 1.65. Not hardly anything that's impressive outside of an Arizona team that went 94-68 finishing first in the NL West.

This season, he was 16-11, 3.33 ERA and an ERA+ of 125 including that WHIP you mentioned.

On the other hand, you have Bryce Harper who didn't make an MLB appearance last season and had a rather impressive season. Plus, I think another additional advantage that can be tabbed on Harper's resume is that he only had about a year-and-a-half play before leaping all the way up to the show. Wade Miley made it up here with college play AND three years of playing in the minors.

Bryce Harper is the youngest player in the majors and was drafted right out of high school. Not only did he have a great season for a rookie, he barely had any time in the minors, no college baseball experience and did rather well in the majors. He deserves it.

This topic blows and I don't have an argument for it at all.

Sorry, Dyhard. Hate to give up on you but I'm so pissed at Jeff Loria right now I can't even think straight.

I'm just gonna forfeit this stinkeroo and DC you for that other topic.

Sorry bro, you did good with your argument and you deserved better.

I don't even care who won the award but I thought a November MLB TD would be a nice change-up from the usual Lakers HC/NFL prediction TD's.

Always enjoy a good MLB debate.

Same.

I'll DC you either tonight or tomorrow about the other topic we discussed.

Harper had an impressive season for a 19 year old. He also handled all the scrutiny pretty well.

Both had good seasons but hardly the type of season that ought to generate an award.
Mike Trout showed us what a ROY performance should be.

Trout showed us a historically great season for a rookie. Certainly the exception, not the norm.

Any other season, Trout would also win the AL MVP. I still think he should, but we all know how the voters like shiny things like a Triple Crown winner. Screw playing defense and stealing bases.

WTF?

He set the bar way higher than "this is what a RoY should look like".

Trout showed us what a historically great MVP season looks like. Way better than your casual RoY season.

16-11 on a .500 team isn't that impressive to me. If he was 16-11 on a team that went 70-92, it would hold more weight imo. Leaning right, but I will wait for more arguments.

Well that's because you don't follow baseball.

Well, that's fine. It would've been a good topic, but I understand why you have a lot of frustration.

Sorry, bro. I hate to be a sore loser or whatever it is that I'm being right now.

You deserved the win, anyway. You had the correct stance. Harper was a perfectly valid choice for the award.

No, that's fine, man. I don't have any worries at all. But I won't be on from Friday at about 2:00 p.m. until Monday.

Hey that's cool, man. I challenged you to the power rankings TD but we won't hold it against you if your arguments aren't posted on time. I knew what I was signing up for when I DC'ed you because you've been upfront about not being able to make it on over the weekend, so no worries.
