If I was making the choice, I would select a player who was the dominant force in their sport.

Here are my supporting facts:

1). The athlete led their team to an NCAA best win total of 40 victories.

2). Their team finished with a 40-0 record.

3). The athlete was named the Associated Press "Player of the Year".

4). This player was selected an All-American.

5). In addition to the NCAA Championship, they also won an Olympic Gold Medal this year.

6). Was named the NCAA Basketball Championships "Most Outstanding Player".

7). Averaged 23.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 5 blocks per game.

Who is my choice?

Brittney Griner

Who is your choice? Best of luck to whoever takes this.....

Andy Murray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First Brit to bag a slam since 1938!!!!
Yeah he is a bit of a ****..
And there are a lot of plonkers from Scotland..
Hey no one is perfect?
(Rhetorical)

But this was like Red Sox 2004..

Nu 2?
Lebron..
Can't get this monkey off my back?
(Again rhetoric)

3. Kung fu panda..
I just wanted to write Kung fu panda..
His name starts with an S..

4. Falcors defense..
I just wanted to say falcor..

5. Ibrahimovic goal..

Murray is a good choice, but not the best one Frog. Here is my reasoning:

1). He won one of 4 grand slam events. Meaning he didn't win 75% of the slams. Meanwhile Griner won an NCAA title leading her team to the best record (40-0) in the history of NCAA woman's basketball. The 40 victories are the highest total as well.

2). He is ranked #3 in the world. Griner is the BEST player on the best team in women's basketball.

Other notable facts:

AP Player of the year
ESPY for Best Female Athlete
Wooden Award
Naismith Trophy
WBCA Defensive Player of the Year
AP All-American (unanimous)
Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four
First NCAA player to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots

Argument 3: Final summation.....

Dude..

A curse is a curse..

I grew up in England from the early eighties till the late 90s..
And all we wanted was a winner!
We didn't win the rugby World Cup till 2003..
So yes I picked a bad time period to be a sports fan in England..

Yes..
We have a history of producing fantastic athletes..
But..
Like our soccer team..
We have this lame mentality..
Where we just treat the superbowls like a holiday..
Yes..
We are always hungover..

Murray changed things..
And he won the Olympics at Wimbledon too!

While I applaud the efforts of Murray this year, what he did has been accomplished before.

Nadal won the Olympic Gold and Wimbledon in 2008.

What Greiger accomplished has never been done. By any player, men's or women's, in the history of NCAA basketball.

Scoring 2,000 points and recording 500 blocks.

So, in conclusion, Grieger set the standard for future players while Murray had a memorable year. The vote, I believe, comes down to record setting history for an athlete vs. a wonderful story for an athlete.

Nice to TD with you again frog.....

Fun Td..
Sometimes I run out of ammo..
Very busy..
Rather than repeat myself..
I feel I established great points in 1st and 2nd..

REVERSE THE CURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What can I say? I received an FM and "gave him the benefit of the doubt." Is that how it goes Darth?

Perhaps that's the original example of what's wrong with FN.

December 1, 2012  05:48 PM ET

Bolt
* owned the Olympics again in marquee events people actually watch

Messi
* broke all-time record for most goals in a season (73)
* broke all-time goals+assists in a season record (102)
* Recently surpassed Pele's 1958 calendar year mark for goals (75), needs just 4 more in December to break alltime calender year record

Yeah, I guess you can say that...but I don't FM anyone and certainly don't vote for any FM I receive. DJ has FM'd me for many of his TD's, but I try to vote for arguments.

I respect the fact you are honest with your comments, but still would like the benefit of the best argument over the FM angle.

Thanks for being upfront. I do appreciate that.....

You are refering to a FM question I received from Stranger and I answered him honestly. I didn't always vote for DJ, but if it was a wash I guess I may have.

You have made a good point, and I understand where you are coming from.....

Griner and Murray are decent picks, but I have got to go with the new Tiger Tamer Rory McElroy FTW.

Also a good pick, but it really should be...Buster Posey.

"Sportsman of the year" and the Froggie lists a soccer goal. How can a goal win an award given to a player for their actions over a year?

I'm feeling sorry for the English Muffins [ 38 yrs of tennis misery could be equal to our JJones frustration ] and I like The Frog's honesty.
