I am sure we have all seen the articles by Clayton or any other analyst calling this QB elite or that QB elite but they are using this term far too loosely. For this TD we can argue what is elite or who is elite but in in my opinion elite means above all else. Someone who no reasonable fan can argue is better. With that said I think there are only 3 elite QBs in the NFL and their names are Tom Brady, Petyon Manning and Aaron Rodgers.

Sure Brees puts up big numbers but he also likes to give the ball to the other team and will lose to inferior teams on the road. Big Ben and Eli have the rings but can they carry a team that doesn't play shut out defense? I don't think so. Matty Ice? He melts in the playoffs.

I look at this way, if you had one game what QB do you want? You can argue all day and not be wrong about the three I stated but I don't see an argument beyond this.

There are only 3 elite QBs in the NFL today. If you disagree lets throwdown!

I disagree..

I believe Drew Brees is an elite quarterback. So, that would take the number of elite quarterbacks to 4 for me.

Please, just listen.

I hate Drew Brees. I've been an avid fan of the Falcon's since '91. No, you don't have to say you're sorry, unless the Seahawks beat them tommorow. lol

Drew didn't have much of a defense this season in New Orleans. Hence the reason that he led the league in passing. We can just call him Mr. Heinz, "Mr. Ketchup".

Brees has won a Superbowl, and a Superbowl Mvp. Yeah, it's been a couple years ago, but don't underestimate the man.

Brees throws the rock like a hot potato, like all the "elites", DO.

Just because Brees had a dismal season, 7-9, doesn't mean he's not an elite qb anymore. Give him some studs in that defense that don't take money pre-game, lol, and he might just be right back in the mix. Better yet, I know he would.

Brees is a great QB and probably at the moment the 4th best but he isn't elite. Elite QB's don't turn over the ball at the rate he does. Elite QBs don't go losing to 7-9 teams in the playoffs whether it be on the road or not.

Since 2008 Brees has thrown 83 INTS where Rodgers has thrown 45, Manning has 56 and Brady just 36. I know Brady and Manning missed a year in this time span but their average would still put them far below Brees. Give Brady 45 and Manning 70.

We know Brees puts up big numbers but so did a certain number 4 that played for Green Bay who was also a great QB, even HOF level, but was also a liability. It isn't all about just racking up yards and throwing touchdowns, you have to take care of the ball and not put your team in bad positions.

Brees also isn't the same player away from his dome. Lost last year to inferior teams like Tampa Bay and St. Louis who both and no business winning those games and fired their coaches. Sure everyone drops bad games but Brees does it far too regularly.

All 4 of these guys have played with bad defenses. Rodgers last year had the worse in the league but you don't see them forcing the issue and that is what separates them.

Drew Brees 2012 stats: 43 td's &19 int's

New Orlean's defense ranked #32 this season!

and O and..

Sean Peyton did get the season long boot, remember?

Lets look @ some teams the Saints beat this season:

Greenbay-went to playoffs
Atlanta- went to playoffs
Cowboys- Romo choked last week of reg. season lol

Bucky, Drew doesn't have a that scar on his face for a coincidence. lol Dude's 33 years old, he doesn't need a cane yet, like you're kinda of suggesting. Because, the way you came at it, he was good and is good, but he's not "elite" anymore. Too bad Drew can't play defense. lmao

P.S. it's "hear" me, Clayton!

Oh boy I am getting grammar lessons from Pch, now that hurts.

Well this isn't a grammar site but a sports one and the Packers beat the Saints this year. They split with Atlanta but we all know how playoff games go.

19 INTs isn't what you want out of your "elite" QB. Tom Brady has never thrown that many in a season, would have to add up his last two years and Rodgers has only thrown 14 in the last TWO years.

TDs and yards are great but when you keep turning the ball over you are putting your team in bad positions, trust as a Packer fan we saw plenty of this. The job of the QB is to manage the game and he can't do that when the other team keeps taking the ball from you.

To be "elite" means to stand out above all others. There was a time in this league the only elite guys where Manning and Brady and we argued endlessly and no one could really say who is better. Rodgers with his last 3 years has joined this company. Brees is great but he isn't in their league, he is that next tier.

Guys like Manning, Brady and now Rodgers don't miss the playoffs, they are almost guaranteed to give you 10 wins every year, not so much with Brees.

Yeah buddy!

I think we two on the verge of being elite, since these playoffs have started.

Joe Flacco

and

Matt Ryan

Hate on the Falcons all you want, but Ryan's led them to SEVEN 4qtr drives for the WIN!

Flacco, he's nice, people love to hate on him as well. Flacco has tied Eli for most road playoffs wins, FIVE... I'm out.. Drew Brees is still elite, get over his picks, his defense sucked, 32 overall in total defense, that's why he had to "air" it out.

Good luck BB.

BB, if it's ok with you my argument is risky and tomorrow's outcome could strongly effect my argument based off perception. And since the clock is "damaged goods" give me by the end of the last game to submit my first argument or not. If you feel you need this done right away let me know and I'll drop it.

January 12, 2013  04:46 AM ET

BB, I have my argument ready to go (I'll send you a portion of it through FM), but again will only post depending on Saturday's outcome. Again let me know if you want me to drop it, enjoy the gms....

Interesting topic.

Kind of a bold statement because Drew Brees is so often acclaimed as an elite quarterback. For the past few seasons I've considered him one as well. Although when ranking QBs I have almost always listed Brees as the #4 guy. So it does make me reconsider whether or not he should fall under the "elite" category.

Get a life, seriously. I vote against him as much as I do for him. I read arguments unlike you.

Blah Blah Blah ...Call it what you will , Im happy with TWO Superbowl Championships with Big Ben and he is an elite QB...I knew that after he started 13-0 as a rookie...Brees and Eli are elite as well. I wont get up here and argue Big Ben because theres too many haters on him but thats fine.

Any QB can win a Super Bowl with the defenses Pittsburgh has had.

Maybe not Joe Webb.

That's almost an actual argument from PCH.

QUOTE(#9):

Agree with left. Brees is a stat hound with dome inflated stats. He'd rather throw 4 times for a TD from the 1 than hand it off. He also throws a ton of picks. He couldn't' hold Rodgers, Brady, and Manning's jock.

He held Mannings Jock pretty well in his Superbowl victory wouldn't you say?

Willie, lmao, JOe webb? hahah gr8t line
