with over forty million in cap space, and a ton of picks this draft, miami will grab a top wr in f/a and fill TE position in draft, as well as de, cb, and g. they lost three games by 3 points or less which would have put them at 10-6...they will make the moves needed, and THill will finally have a target downfield to throw to...miami is heading in the right direction, no doubt.

this is just an easy win attempt but really its all based on speculation. what we know right now is that the dolphins are not good enough to make the playoffs.
yea they have a ton of cap space and draft picks and maybe they'll address some of the holes they need, but when a team has this many holes you can't do it all in one offseason. And last I checked they still have Tannehill at QB who completed less than 60% of his passes and threw 12 TDs vs 13 Ints with 9 fumbles. He's not ready to push them to the playoffs right now and we all know you need a QB that can make plays for you to make it and there's not one in this year's draft that can pull a Luck/Griffin/Wilson and get you there. Plus the fins aren't ready to roll the dice on a new QB yet.
The fins need 2 years to get there right now... at least.
Reasons:
1. No QB
2. Coming up in argument 2 but its gonna be the schedule
3. Coming up in argument 3 but its gonna be a player that just may have the ability to crash the party mixed in with some extra junk
Best of luck newbie (aka most likely dupe.)
dlfns13_2000 said 01/23, 12:26 PM
k, i see your argument, but lets be realistic...those stats for thill, well, those were made without a star reciever, actually, with very few targets, yet he made the best with what he had. and as a rookie, without a recieving corps or a healthy oline, i think he played pretty darn good. if miami picks up wallace, or jennings, or even bowe...(any one of them would do). they could spread the field, then add in a top te from draft, and a de and cb from later down draft, and of course a gaurd, i just don't see where they would have a lot of holes...they are an up and comming team with a lot of cap space and a lot of picks to take them to the next level....and thanx for the newbie comment...i am new to this site, and hope to enjoy it.
and remember, three games of three points or less, with those three wins, they are in wildcard this year...heck, even with their losing record, they weren't out of the playoff picture this year till second to last week...so to think they won't next year would mean they digress...i just don't see that happening

Alright point number 2 even if I don't really agree with half of what you're going with in the last point. Its semantics and conjecture anywho.
The real crippler for your fins for next year doesn't have to do as much with the players they have as with the players they have to play against. This year the fins went 7-9 and 2-4 against the AFC East. Their wins came against Oakland, @ Cinci, vs STL, @ NYJ, vs Sea, vs Jax, and vs Buffalo. I'd give them maybe 2 quality wins with the one at Cinci and vs Seattle. The rest of those wins are against teams who's combined record was 25-54-1. That's some pretty ugly stuff right there. They also won 3 games by 4 pts. Based on last year this was only an 18th ranked sked.
Next year their schedule takes a little rougher turn. They play the league's 8th toughest sked based on W-L. They play in their division which is 2 L vs the Pats and 2-2 or 3-1 at best vs the Bills and Jets. This= 2-4 or 3-5. Now for non-division. They get Bal Cinci Car and Atl at home which looks at best to me like 2-2. Then they go to Pit Cle NO and TB which looks like 2-2 again. This puts them overall at 6-10 or 7-9. I just can't see it with this sked.
dlfns13_2000 said 01/29, 03:42 AM
k, i give you the shced....although if you look at the games won and lost this year by a par team, well, then i dissagree... miami beat seattle, gave ne a run on first game...so, to take miami out of race due to other teams records...not there man. i agree, they need a lot of improvement, but i also look at what teams are lossing and what some teams have to gain, and what teams have started....as far as a future...to me, i see miami making a few big moves in offseason, and using thier cap room to pick up some great players...i remember back in 2008 when everyone said maimi would have a one win season, yet won thier div. so to say they are gonna have a worse record next year, regardless of who they play....sorry, not buying it. i believe this team is on the rise and will be in the playoffs next year...maybe not a powerhouse, or div winner, but def. a playoff team..... be honest, did you or anyone expect ravens to go to sb? i could see san fran...but ravens???? any given sunday right? never count out a team with an upswing
kalbrecht17 said 01/29, 07:10 AM
Firstly, when you say that I'm throwing them out based on records of who they play, that's not the case. The 8th toughest sked fact is simply so that it doesn't look like i'm just claiming they have a tough sked, its there to back that claim up. they play some pretty solid teams that they didn't play last year that don't look like their going to be dropping way down the ladder any time soon (Atl, NO) plus they draw Cinci who's also on the rise in addition to some perennially good teams in Bal (who will be interesting to see without Ray) and Pitt. Its just a tough sked for anyone to crack and get to that usually magic ten wins.
You claim that miami will make moves and other teams will lose guys and not address those losses. Do we know this? No. or they could pick up a ton of guys and end up like the eagles. roster moves are impossible to predict.
maybe just maybe their big splash will be my last point. although ownership has claimed it won't happen, if tebow lands here this team is doomed. no solid run attack to support tebow's game or a big receiver to bail him out. may happen due to tix and revenue tebow can generate for the team.

not much of a throwdown really, more of a blog and opinion...but when i look at the building of the team, and the pieces missing....i can't help but feel next year will be a winning season, with a playoff birth....

Miami will not win the division next year b/c of NE. That means they'll have to get a Wild Card. At 7-9 they have too many teams to pass that don't have as many holes to fill and can improve their team a lot easier to stay ahead of Miami.
Conclusion = No playsoffs next year for Miami.

Hard to see Miami making the playoffs as pointed out they have a fairly tough sched. But they do have a pretty good defense so if they can fix their offensive problems (O-line WR and a mail carrying time eating RB) and T-Hill stepping up a level they could with some luck squeak in but doubtful

ps dude i never once said that the fins would lose more games regardless of who they play. i think they'll lose more this year BASED on who they play. but if they played their afc east sked and a weak sked they could definitely make a run at the playoffs. as far as the ravens go, saw they as a playoff team but expected flacco to struggle as he has in the past. the team is solid other than him but when he puts it together they're real tough. so its not a humongous stretch that they are here.

The ravens in the SB has absolutely nothing to do with Miami's chances of making the playoff next season. NONE!
It pains me to type this BUT the Ravens have been in the playoffs 5 straight years and won the AFC North the last two. While many thought Denver or NE would make the SB this year the Ravens knocked both of them off on the way to the SB and they were picked by many to win the AFC North again in the preseason. The Ravens in the SB while not expected at the beginning of the playoffs is not that big of a surprise.
Miaimi has no chance of wining their division next year. Miami being in the playoff hunt is a small surprise. Miami making the playoff will be a hugh surprise!
