It's pretty obvious to me that if any goalie will be traded it will be Luongo and not Schneider. And the way Luongo is playing right now, you simply cannot trade him.

So I contend that the Canucks should keep both goalies and deal Luongo in the offseason.

By trading Schneider you run the risk of losing, what the team believes, to be their future #1 goalie. A young goaltender signed up to a team friendly deal. I don't see the value in that. What happens if Luongo goes down to injury this season? What happens when Luongo once again cracks under pressure in the playoffs? Who do the Canucks turn to?

Short term it makes sense to keep both guys. The team has two #1 goalies at their disposal. Every team would love to have that problem.

Long term it makes sense to move Luongo in the offseason. Like you've stated, Luongo is getting older and carries a large contract. Why trade the young guy and tie your future to an aging goaltender with a bloated contract? That's not conducive to building a winning franchise.

Schneider is the goalie of the future in Vancouver. You keep him and ride the hot goaltender as far as he takes you this season. Its the most sensible solution.

Cory Schneider's deal is much cap friendlier than Luongo's. Lets be real about it. The reason why the Canucks gave Schneider a 3 year $12 million deal was because they view him as their #1 goaltender of the future, and based on his skill level they are right.

Distractions? This goalie controversy is all too familiar to me as a Bruins fan. I go back to the 2010-11 season when Rask started the season before and Thomas took control over the #1 goalie duties. The young guy going into the season as the starter and the old guy with a bloated contract outplays him and picks up the majority of the starts. How'd that distraction affect the Bruins? Oh yeah, they won the freaking cup.

And how have these distractions affected the teams play so far? It hasn't, so you can take that crap and sell it to someone else.

Schneider hasn't made a big deal about it and no one from the team to the coaching staff views it as an issue.

This isn't about hurt feelings or making someone happy. Its about winning hockey games, and Vancouver is better off with both guys this season. You worry about moving Luongo in the offseason and worry about winning hockey games in the present.

You say this is nothing like the Bruins situation because Rask was young and no where close to being a UFA. You just described Schneider, who's 26 and has a 3 year deal.

You say Thomas wasn't on a long term deal, but Thomas had 3 years $14 mil left on his deal. Also Rask wanted to start. He was the starter the season before and led the NHL in GAA and Save %.

As a matter of fact, Rask was pretty open about wanting to start and openly complained about his lack of playing time, which caused quite a stir in Boston. It also caused, wait for it...A goalie controversy.

So in actuality, the two situations are identical.

If you think Vancouver should trade a goalie then you have the wrong one. Luongo is the guy to go not Schneider. And the reason I say that is because Schneider is the goalie of the future. You don't trade your goalie of the future. Its idiotic. I couldn't imagine what the Bruins would look like now if they had traded Rask while Thomas was here.

The only reason why Vancouver should keep Luongo THIS season is because he's playing out of his mind and they need to ride the hot guy in a shortened season. But he needs to go eventually while Schneider should stay.
