Joe Flacco signing is a joke right?

I have seen people in the comment section compare Flacco to Brady so I figured I'd approach this TD differently. Brady just signed a 3 year extension making his total deal 5 years $70 million. Flacco's deal is 6 years $120 million.
Flacco has never thrown for more than 4000 yards in a season. Brady has done it 5 times. Flacco has never thrown more than 25 TD in a season. Brady has done it 8 times.
Brady is an 8 time pro bowler. Flacco has never been. Brady is a 2 time MVP. Flacco zero time. Brady has 3 SBs and is a 2 time SB MVP. Flacco now has one a piece.
The point? Flacco can't hold Tom Brady's jock and his new contract is a joke.
Its a joke because Flacco isn't anywhere near the top QBs and certainly shouldn't be paid as the best.
Oh right I forgot, he's a winner. People are very short sighted. Before his latest lucky run he was 5-4 in the playoffs throwing 8 TDs and 8 INTs. His first two playoffs he was 3-2. The problem? His QB rating was 50.8 and 39.4 respectively.
Before his 4 game run people said Flacco was mediocre and laughed when he called himself the best QB. Now they think he's great. Based on 4 games?
He's mediocre and his contract is a joke.

Lol, ok. Not that it helps your cause much, but whatever. Let's do it.
Let's see, Flacco just turned 28 and Brady is already an old man of 35. He'll be 36 by the time the 2013 season kicks off. Major advantage for Flacco, obviously. Ephasis on the "obviously".
Next factor; Super Bowls. Brady hsn't won one since 2004, almost a full dcade ago. Flacco just won one, what, three weeks ago? Again, major advantage Flacco, obviously, with the emphasis...
But more importantly than any kind 0f correlation to Brady (remember, Jim, in the real world not everything revolves around Mr. Bundchen) is the situation Baltimore found themseles in.
Before the 2012 season Baltimore offered Flacco a contract. He declined it, preferring to play out the season and see if he could raise the bar a bit. Which he did, significantly.
Baltimore, as a heavy underdog, beat the Chuckstrong Colts, the top seeded Broncos, your beloved Patriots and finally the fearsome 49ers en route to a Super Bowl victory.
Flacco played his hand perfectly. Baltimore had NO CHOICE but to offer Flacco what he wanted.
Next up, market value.

You reasoning is illogical. Winning a SB and being a free agent doesn't mean one should be the highest paid player in NFL history. Especially when said player is not even an elite QB.
Let's be honest here. Flacco was very fortunate to win a SB. He had another mediocre season in the regular season. Completing less than 60% of his passes, throwing for 3800 yards 22 TDs and 10 INTs. Not finishing top 10 in any major statistical category. Just another average season for Joe.
If Rahim Moore doesn't turn into a 9 year old fat little leageur in rightfield who can't judge a fly ball we're not having this discussion. If the ref throws a flag on the Crabtree hold we're talking about how Flacco and Co blew the SB.
He played great for 4 games but playing good football and getting luck along the way does not equate to Flacco being the highest paid QB in the NFL.
You overpay for guys like Brees, Manning, and Brady because those QBs carry their franchises. They are elite and deserve elite contracts.
The market for elite QBs was created when Brees, Manning, and Brady signed their contracts. Flacco is not elite and is not deserving of an elite contract.
Baltimore overpaid.

Let's see... when Brady wins one, he's the GOAT. When Arnie makes a top selling movie, he's the GOAT.
But when Flacco wins a SB, he got lucky? CLEARLY you're biased. CLEARLY you're jealous. CLEARLY you're talking out of your **** again.
Say what you want but Flacco DOES carry his franchise. Granted, his load might be lighter than some other QB's thanks to his dynamic RB Ray Rice, but Flacco (like EVERY quarterback) is the pilot of his ship's offense, so to speak.
EVERY NFL team lives and dies with their QB, especially in this day and age. Baltimore is no exception. Face it, Jim, Flacco is super-important to his team and considering he was a free agent to be Baltimore had no choice to resign him.
Knowing they had to resign him, the only issue was for how much money.
Now we know Flacco turned down an offer before this season. Considering the Ravens won the SB, all the power went to Flacco. He was able to ask for a price comparable to other SB-winning franchise QB's, except a little more for market inflation.
Carson Palmer makes 13 mil.
Rivers, 15 mil.
Romo,16 mil.
Peyton, 20 mil.
Adjusted for inflation, 20.1 is about right for Flacco.

The problem with your logic is Brady isn't great because he won a SB. Brady is great because he won 3 SBs and has been consistently an elite QB for over a decade.
Flacco doesn't carry his franchise the way guys like Manning, Brees, Brady, and Rodgers do. Brady carried a 31st ranked defense to a SB. Rodgers played with a below average O line. Brees carried the weight of the franchise on him with Hurricane Katrina and a 27th ranked defense.
Those guys are elite. Those guys put up numbers every season because they have to. Those guys make pro bowls every season. Those guy are voted by their peers as being the best in the game. Flacco isn't.
Of course Baltimore had to resign him, I've never disputed that. I've simply stated that they way overspent for him. He's not deserving of the highest contract in football. Flacco is consistently mediocre every season.
What Baltimore paid for is a guy who will put up average numbers, make crazy decisions, throw balls up for grab and hope his receivers or the refs bail him out.
They didn't have to break the bank for him. They could have come to a reasonable middle ground on a new contract.
Baltimore screwed up and overpaid.

Well now you even admit that the Ravens couldn't afford to let Flacco walk. In a way you argued my case for me, because now that we agree Baltimore had to resign Flacco we can talk about why they had to pay so much.
The issue here is market value.
Flacco had all the leverage in the world. He declined Baltimore's introductory offer before the start of the 2012 season with the idea that he could potentially play his way into a bigger deal.
By the end of the season Flacco had established himself as:
1, the only QB in NFL history to win a playoff game in each of his first 5 seasons
2, the current Super Bowl champion
3, perfectly capable of beating Brady and the Pats, Manning and the Broncos, Kaepernick and the 49ers, etc
4, capable of winning with his crazy strong arm
5, capable of "managing" games when needed
6, worthy of the next contract in a long line of QB contracts which always outdo the previous large contract
NFL Franchise QB's (especially ones with SB rings) always one-up one another when new deals are signed. An extra hundred grand to top that last QB deal? No prob.
Flacco "earned" every penny by maximizing his leverage.

If Brady cant win a SB anymore and he makes 9 mil on a discount, it would seem about right that Flacco's value as the reigning SB champ QB would be more than double Brady's salary.
Plus, he like half Brady's age.

BTW, these comments are more a respond to Jim personally than anything else.
I don't really have an opinion on Flacco's contract either way. Hes obviously a good player but I wonder if he can sustain it. If he can I guess hes worth the dough.
Either way, its fun telling Jim about how Flacco is SO much more valuable than old Tom.

He's won a Super Bowl and took his team to multiple AFC Championship games. Screw the flashy numbers, he's a winner.

To the "all he does is win" guys that defend him- I saw this comment on the SI article:
"Using wins as the key metric is completely asinine. He's a second tier QB who happens to play for a team with a good running game and great defense.
During those five years the Baltimore Defense ranked 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, and 12th. Their Passing Offense was 27th, 18th, 17th, 19th, and 14th. The Rushing Offense ranked 4th, 5th, 14th, 10th, and 11th That seems to suggest that Joe wasn't really the guy who should get credit for all those wins."
I think that gives perspective as to the main reasons that the Ravens have had so much success the last 5 years. Mainly the D and run game, not Flacco. That isn't to take away from what he did this post season because he did carry the team on his back for all 4 games. But just go before the playoffs this year and when the season ended Baltimore was in a huge skid and most people considered them the 5th best team in the AFC. Based on his five years in the league he is not worth that contract, based on his last 4 games he is. I will take a 5 year track record over a 4 game hot streak.
