"So and so" is an elite quarterback.

This generic statement is completely meaningless. There is no set definition for "elite"; it's merely determined by misconceived theoretical value which fluctuates depending on one's interpretation.

It is the worst debate in sports and that's all I have to say about that. Short and sweet.

Your turn.

Pick one topic per argument.

Good luck?

there's a lotta things that are crazy to me.

Tiki Barber's chilling on his couch, and Ronde's still the Buccaneers heart and soul in the secondary.

Jason Williams, a.k.a "White Chocolate", got a title before his running mate, and highschool buddy, Randy Moss.

Danica Patrick literally didn't have the balls to try to win the "500". She even said she didn't want to get "frieght-trained", after the race.

Ok, I'm rambling.

Elite's pretty simple, doooooode, for me, the player we are evaluating, should be preferred to have a ring on his finger, and also be top in his major statistical category, for 2-3+ years.

I'll even shake up the argument, and probably get booed out the building. But, I think Wilt Chamberlain has a VERY legitimate argument of being the best basketball player ever. The Jordan celebration last weekend was a little over board. Much love to his airness, many memories, but Jordan wasn't 7 foot, and 100 put out put on ANY professional team, on any era, or level, is simply amazing. I have more tricks up my sleeve, but I do believe Jordan could be the best, I didn't watch Wilt, but given the stats, man, there's a hella argument.

You're saying the "NBA GOAT" debate is bad because everyone assumes MJ wins? Interesting; I never woulda thought of that.

I will say this - sometimes stats don't reflect the whole picture. I never saw Wilt but I wonder about the numbers sometimes. I mean guys like Carmelo Anthony can put up some huge numbers but nobody would even try to argue that he's one of the best of all time.

Regardless, I think Bron Bron is gonna lay claim to that title before it's all said and done.

Anywho, next I'm going with "the AL/NL has a better style of play than the other".

I hate to mention this one because I'm a big time NL guy and I'm guilty of myself, but professing a preference for one League or the other really is nothing more than a show of support for whichever League happens to be home to your favorite team.

It's true.

When have you EVER met a Yankees fan who preferred the no DH rule, or a Braves fan who clamored for more Offense? Just doesn't happen.

League preference is simply another layer of team preference, therefore the debate about League superiority is an empty one, very much biased and irrational.

Up next: more of my opinions. Yay.

So....what was right's choice?

PCH: The assignment was to name a bad sports debate, not engage in one.

Really? Weird.

I guess there's always exceptions to the rule but you're the first Yankee fan I've ever heard of who preferred the NL style of play.

The sports debate I hate is when you give an edge to one QB over another because they won a Super Bowl (or multiple SB's)...it always comes back to "so I guess you think Dilfer is better than Marino?"

The answer is "of course he isn't better overall....but the one area he was better? WINNING A CHAMPIONSHIP."

Yeah, the whole Dilfer-Marino thing is pretty well played out.

Dilfer wasn't better at winning a championship though. That D that will stand as one of the all time greats was. Using championships to distinguish one player over an other in any team sport is absurd.

If you wanna use their performance in a championship game, or other "higher pressure" games, thats one thing, but the outcome of the TEAM game, pointless.

That D was very good, but throw in the Raiders playbook/Ex-HD Coach and Oakland would have had a better chance at winning a game with the Tuck Rule over the Bucs in the SB.

Any talk of calling someone out for lack of or great leadership.
