Best MLB duo to build a team around.

Marlins Fan (156-78-31) vs Argos. (184-101-29)

You, as a hypothetical GM of a hypothetical MLB team, get to pick any set of teammates from any MLB team to build a team around. You can choose from any position you like. Two pitchers, two hitters, one of each, whatever. Except you cant take Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera. They're too obvious, even if JV is having an off year.

I'm going with Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez.

Thought about a pair of Giants, thought about a pair of Dodgers, thought about a pair of Nationals, even thought about a pair of Angels and Rangers.

But I'm sticking with the Colorado boys.

Tulo might be the best overall player in baseball. Outstanding defensive shortstop and his bat has been spectacular over the last several years, particularly for a shortstop. And he's 28, so I'd be getting him in his prime.

Gonzalez (27) might be the most talented offensive player in baseball. While he may not do any single thing as well as someone else, he does everything extremely well in his own right. He hits for average, he gets on base, he hits for power, he steals bases, hes a pretty good defensive player with a strong arm.

Can't go wrong with these two as your core.

That is a great duo, if you get to take their ballpark with them.

CarGo has a career .992 home OPS but only .772 on the road. Take out his one year with Oakland, and he has a 1.034 OPS at home and sub .700 OPS on the road.

I'm not gonna rip Tulo for playing at Coors Field, because he is awesome. But both also have health issues. Tulo only averages 120 games a year, and has played less than 125 games in half of his 6 seasons. CarGo is no better averaging 124 games per season.

There are so many options I can go with. All better than your pick. Kershaw-Kemp, Harper-Strasburg/Zimmer, Longoria-Price, Harvey-Wright, Machado-Davis/Jones, Braun-Gomez or Profar-Yu. But I'm gonna go with Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner.

We all know about Buster. He had one freak accident, so isn't injury prone, so don't bring that up.

Posey is 26, has won 2 World Series, and MVP. He has a career .880 OPS, despite playing in a pitchers park. What if he got to play in a park like Coors Field where he has a 1.085 OPS in 106 PA.

Did you know Bum, despite playing in 100 games already, is younger than both Strasburg, and Harvey. He is still only 23!

You are one opinionated summbiich, and while that's normally not such a bad thing you still haven't figured out that each and every one of us THINKS our opinions are the only correct ones we have the good graces not to tell everyone that they're wrong. And that is why TDing you always feels like more of a chore than a debate. It's like I'm 17 and my mom is demanding that I go hang out with a 13 year old kid who has yet to learn anything about the world.

Which is ironic, Argos, because you have such a strong reputation for being a blind homer. I mean, the Packers are always the best at everything and Joey Bautista definitely isn't juicing (explain that one to me again, wouldja?) and I seem to remember a TD about Johnny Cueto or something... anyway, you're a massive homer. Which in and of itself isn't so bad, except that like I said earlier you're also always telling people that their OPINIONS are incorrect (as if an opinion could be proven or disproven. There's a reason its an OPINION and not a FACT, after all) and that only you know the truth.

It's a bit much. And it's semi disappointing.

Talk baseball without being an obnoxious know it all.

You are accusing Jose Bautista of steroids, again? Really? How about he hasn't ever failed a drug test or been linked to this report, despite all these other players being linked.

The Packers are always one of the best. Have you looked at their record of late?

I don't know what you are whining about here. Guess you realized your picks pale in comparison to mine, and gave up.

But back to the topic on hand.

Speaking of injury prone...Tulo and CarGo both left the game last night with injuries, again! Tulo will be out 4-6 weeks, and CarGo is gonna miss a couple games until they decide if he needs to be DL'ed or not.

So you picked two injury prone players, one of which is a product of his ballpark.

And you pick two players to build your team around, and say "Can't go wrong with these two as your core." Well, why don't you ask Colorado how that is going for them.

On the other hand, the Giants have 2 World Series in 2 years with full healthy seasons of Posey and Bum.

Also, you have the fact that CarGo is primarily a corner OF, which tends to be a position more easily able to fill compared to catcher or top of the rotation starters, or even SS.

You're an ****.

Stop taking my TDs until you can figure out how to be a man about it.

You are the one who refuses to talk about the subject at hand here. Instead, whine about something that I have no idea what you are referring to.

Telling someone to man up over the internet is really strange. Get a life.

Did you take Miggy out of the equation altogether, or just the combo mentioned?

June 13, 2013  10:15 AM ET

Can I go Scherzer-Miggy?

June 13, 2013  10:33 AM ET

Verlander/Miggy either one are good picks. You are still going to win with buster I believe, will wait and see

I'll go homer and pick two Pirates.

Gerrit Cole and Andrew McCutchen. A potential ace pitcher and a centerfielder. You need to be strong up the middle.

If I have to pick two position players I'll go with Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte. Marte is drawing comparisions to the great Roberto Clemente.

Argos picked the other duo I was strongly considering. Good choice.

Bumgarner and Poesy are two of my top five players to watch in MLB.

Yes, I want a player that has been named multiple times in steroid reports to build my team on... What kind of team are you building? The Yankees?

June 14, 2013  12:36 AM ET

Where is Strasburg and Harper?Answer: The DL.

If Argos says he is taking away Carlos Gonzalez one year with the Athletics, then I am taking away Buster Posey's 2012 season... Now he has a lot less awards to his name.
