I'm calling my shot!

It's bold and risky..
And if he is going to lose a big chunk of time then it has to be today, when they do alp d'huez twice!!
So for me, the only 2 guys that could make a challenge are contador and the young Colombian Quinta.. One of them has to go for broke and attack on the first lap of alp d'huez..
Froome either let's them go..
OR
goes with them but risks collapsing in the second lap..

I personally think Quinta looks stronger in the mountains over contador..
But contador is more desperate..

THIS IS EXCITING..

There's still 2 more mountain stages after today..
But if anything major is going to happen..
It has to be today..

I've watched every stage of this year's Tour, and Froome has been far and away the best rider.

Froome had one of the fastest times ever in the Ax 3 Domaines. He has also won two of the four mountain. The other riders haven't even been on his level, he is just so dominating right now. He is the King of the Mountains! And there is 3 mountain stages left (the big one today).

Yesterday happened. I wasn't sold on Froome. I thought he would lose time. He is not a strong time trialist. I thought for sure Contador would gain at least 20 seconds. But then, Froome won the time trial. There is nothing he can't do!

Plus Froome has Richie Porto. Porto has raced a great team race, and has lead Froome through the mountains and ensured no one breaks away and gets to far from the peleton. When someone attacks, Porto has lead Froome up to them, before Froome then passes them.

Contador has not looked like himself this tour, and has run out of gas at the end of each stage and unable to close or keep up. (Maybe cause he is off the PEDs finally?). Quinta doesn't have the team, and is already nearly 7 minutes back.

Damn..
I guess people were too tired to attack today..
I still think there will be fireworks tomorrow..
If I had to guess Quinta is the strongest followed by Rodriguez..

Froome has been amazing. Deserving of this tour win. Congrats to him. Even when he had a cushion, he never gave up any time.

Porte deserves a lot of credit too. Has done great work for Froome. Watch Porte to leave Sky this transfer period in the offseason, and become the team leader of a team and be a top contender for next years tour. Wiggins may leave Sky too, and you can have three ex-sky teammates competiting for the Tour next year.

Contador has been pathetic of late. He cant finish. Without the PEDs, he isnt that great.

If Valverde did not have that stage where the wind split the peloton and he had his bike break and couldn't catch up, he may have challenged Froome. Hes had a great finish and was in 2nd before that stage.

His teammate, Quinta, has had one of the best first time Tours ever. He's only 22 and is gonna finish 2nd in his forst ever Tour! Hes gonna win a couple in his future I think.

Froome though was the best rider in the 100th Tour and deserving of the win. First ever African to win (even if he races for GB).

We should do a top 5 sprinters in the world TD...

Froome won!
I'm out of here..:(

Watching the Tour is one of my favourite sporting events. The stages are all so beautiful.

Contador has been the one collapsing at the end of every stage.

I think Kreuziger has the best chance at stealing Yellow (but still wont). He is the number two guy on his team, behind Contador, yet still sits 3rd overall in the GC. Saxo can afford to take gambles on the attacks, and send the #2 in Kreuziger to break away early and gamble, and if Froome catches him and passes him, they still have Contador as a GC contender.

Plus if Kreuziger attacks, Froome will be forced to reel him in, like he did with Quinta in the first mountain stage. If he doesn't have Porto's help (which is unlikely with the race he has had, I believe Porto will be with him throughout this final 3 stages), it could tire Froome out, and give Contador a chance to attack, especially on the final two mountain stages.

Saxo is in a very interesting and unique position. They have the number two and three riders overall in the GC, both are good climbers and can win any mountain stage. Then factor in that there is three consecutive mountain stages on the lead into Paris...Saxo will be able to have some interesting strategies on attacks, and can take the gambles.

I really wasn't sure about Froome heading into yesterday. But after that time trial, I just cannot see him losing now.

If he does, Saxo will have to gain significant time today. The final two mountain stages aren't nearly as challenging today. Really, if a Saxo rider doesn't win today and gain 3-4 minutes (which is an absorbed amount of time to gain), this Tour is over.

I'm watching the tour now and afraid for these riders. Why did they pick this road on the tour? These roads are incredibly narrow, in terrible conditions, filled with hair pin turns, and very steep and a dangerous desent and climb. Plus there is not protective barriers! Plus they banned the fans from this part cause its so dangerous and narrow. The organizers are idiots. Ive watched a lot of tours, but I dont recall something so dangerous. Someone can die on yhis stage.

Froome owns all to Richie Port today.

July 18, 2013  11:26 AM ET

Froome survived today. Gained time on 2nd and 3rd. Quinta will podium in paris but its over now. Froome has this in the bag.

Froome bonked at the end..
Quinta can make things interesting..
Remember Floyd landis lost 10minutes in one mountain stage once..

Id rather be in froomes position..
But there is still a long way to go..

The race for 2nd and 3rd is going to be tight..

Contador looks really vulnerable..
And Quinta can smell blood in the water..

July 18, 2013  11:43 AM ET

Heartbreaking loss for teejay..
I could see him in trouble..
Damn shame his chain fell off..

If I'm teejay, I'm getting hammered tonight..
And hooking up with a 40er!

July 18, 2013  11:46 AM ET

Tomorrow is brutal with 2 beyond classifications at the start..
Saturday, they have a beyond classification at the end..

I wouldn't say it's over..

If froome's body doesn't betray him, then he will sip champagne in Paris..

He's got 6 mins on Quinta..
It will be enough as long as his body holds up..

Contador has struggled all tour. Quinta will probably catch him for second. Just a matter if contador can hold on for a podium finish.

Froome just needs to survive and hope his body holds up. Porte will help him a ton. I think if Porte was on any other team, he'd be the team leader and maybe even beat Froome. He's doing what Froome did for Wiggins last year.

TJ I thought had it. But I guess he spent too much energy trying to catch back up after his gears broke early on on the descent. But its nice to see a frenchy win a stage in the 100th edition of the tour.

Damn! 47 seconds separate 2nd from 5th!!
That is super tight..
Froome has a 5 min advantage now..
Start taking your magic recovery potion froome!!

July 18, 2013  07:41 PM ET

I will do my 2nd tomorrow after the race!
Then my 3rd on Saturday after the race..
Then it will be over over..

I'm sooooooo excited..

Today was a beauty of a stage..

July 18, 2013  07:45 PM ET

Your points about Porto were brilliant Argos..
Porto did massive damage control today..
Porto was one of the many heroes today..

July 18, 2013  07:47 PM ET

Teejay van garden:(

I feel your pain buddy..
I've been in that dark place on the sports field and off it too..

I've been trying to come up with a "Froome" joke for a couple days but I got nothing.

That name is a gold mine, though. I'm sure of it. Just can't quite figure out the appropriate context, sadly.
