Better team 2006 Chicago Bears or 2007 Green Bay Packers

The 2006 Chicago Bears made the playoffs and rode on the back of their defense all the way to the Super Bowl. If the Bears had any kind of quality quarterback play, it's likely that they would've have won the game and been considered one of the better teams this decade. Fact of the matter is, the Bears had NO quarterback at all and the Packers now have a rejuvenated hall of famer at the reigns. They have a pro bowl wide receiver in Donald Driver and a receiver with great upside in Greg Jennings. Koren Robinson has just been reinstated and Bubba Franks has the ability, as he has proven in the past to be a pro bowl caliber tight end. The offensive line is young and will only improve as the year/years go on, along with the defense. Woodson, Harris, Kampman, Barnett and Hawk, Hodge, Poppinga, Pickett and Harrel are all players in their prime or still on the rise. If their rookie Wide Receiver had held on to the ball and not fumbled TWICE inside the red zone, it's more than likely the Pack would still be undefeated. The Bears made the Super Bowl last year on the back of their defense but this year the Packers have BOTH defense and offense.

The 2007 Packers are indeed a great team but their is three phases of the game and offense isn't going to make up for the lack of productivity at special teams and their defense for that matter. The only edge the Pack has on the 06' Bears was their offense and it isn't that big of a edge because we had a running game with Ced Benson and Thomas Jones while the Packers only have a passing. If you breakdown each category of Offense, Defense and Special Teams the Bears would win almost everyone.

Former pro bowlers donald driver and bubba franks, future hall of famer favre. jackson is a rookie that will only get better as the year goes on. the wide receiving corps is better and so r the tight ends, the line is young and will continue to improve as well. kampman, picket and harrel are still growing also. woodson and harris are solid corners. barnett is in his prime now and hawk is on his way. qb play is essential to any team and the bears just did not have it.

Who's positions are better? Offense QB-Packers RB-Bears WR- Packers TE-Tie O-Line-Bears. Defense D-Line-Bears LBS-Bears DBS-Bears Special Teams K-Bears Returner-Bears So the Packers are better at 2-10 catogories. I can't really go by stats because ones a full season and the other is a 1/3rd of a season. Running game is more important than your passing game because it controls the clock, wears the Defense down, and opens up the field to pass. Defense wins games and the Packers simply don't have it.

i'm not 100% sure who their tight end was last year but u guys did not have greg olsen, there's a reason u guys drafted a tight end in the first round this year. you're right, defense wins game and the packers DO have it b/c well 1 they r winning games and 2 they defensive statistics should show they r one of the best in the league. it's not always about statistics, it's about chemistry and leadership, favre will carry them and lead them to the promised land like before. the bears don't have that.

I say the Desmond Clark is equal 2 D.Lee and Franks because Clark had 626 yrds last year and together Lee and Franks had 483 yrds so theyre pretty much even W/O Olsen. And if you want to talk about chemistry and leadership look no farther than Urlacher and Olin Kreutz as the leaders and the Bears chemistry is what they are built around. The Packers defensively haven't played any where near the 06 Bears 56 takeaways and 40 sacks and the Packers only have 14 takeaways and 13 sacks in a halfseason.

sounds like your saying the pack are better when they lost to the 07 bears

October 21, 2007  09:30 AM ET

hopefully i dont jinx the pack now

Why did it only let me use 500 characters?

October 21, 2007  01:59 PM ET

bears rode the back of the defense...packers are running on the back of Farve and passing...theres no run game..defense is shaky and special teams well is nothing special....

October 21, 2007  02:00 PM ET

and for half the season we had a QB...we just don't know where he wentnow

October 21, 2007  09:04 PM ET

bears had the easiest season in the NFL last year. The packers beat 3 playoff teams in the first 3 games and beat washington who is pretty good. Last year the bears played detroit (brutal) Minnesota (brutal) and green bay (not great)

October 21, 2007  09:13 PM ET

The Packers haven't played anybody good this year and don't tell me the Giants because that team hasn't played anyone good at all.

October 21, 2007  10:49 PM ET

the packers beat the chargers skins and shouldve have manhandled the bears the vikings already beat the bears and the vikings lost to the pack and the giants R a good team...fact of the matter is chicago had an easy schedule last year and should have lost the games that grossman started this year, the defense bailed them out of that one again

October 21, 2007  11:12 PM ET

Only the Skins and Giants are over .500 and they shouldn't even be over .500 if it wasn't for them playing all weak teams too. Also like I said Defense wins you ball games. It shows that you can have the worst QB in the league but if you have defense and a running game you will win games your not suppose to win. Perfect example is the Ravens, they have a lights out defense, and running game with Jamal Lewis ,and now Willis Mcghee. And Trent Dilfer and Kyle Boller just sat back and rode along like Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton.

October 22, 2007  12:48 PM ET

u mean "had" jamal lewis...

i agree, defense wins u games and i'll admit that the 06 bears had a better defense than the 07 packers BUT it's not a landslide choice like u think it is. i disagree when u say the packers have none when in fact i believe it's one of the best in the league

October 22, 2007  05:11 PM ET

Cedric Benson is an overrated punk. Biggest bust out of his draft class.

October 22, 2007  05:16 PM ET

I'm pretty sure I said "now Willis Mcghee" cause everyone knows they don't have Jamal Lewis any more and there riding on Mcghee's back and there defense because that is what the Ravens focus mostly on doing.

October 22, 2007  05:19 PM ET

Rex Grossman was terrific during the first half of the season last year. The Bears also won many games in dominating fashion and nearly won three straight road contests against the Giants, Jets and Patriots. There's no comparison between the two teams.

October 22, 2007  05:20 PM ET

Yes I agree Benson is one of the biggest bust of the draft I've ever seen and should stop crying when Thomas Jones was playing running back. To bad the Bears have to get some linemen and a QB early in the draft cause i would say they should get a new runningback.

October 22, 2007  05:24 PM ET

The only reason I believe Rex was so good through the first 8 games was because no one could find an ansewer to him then they realized than he can't throw under pressure.

October 22, 2007  05:29 PM ET

Rex Grossman was an absolute monster in college. I can't believe how much he's regressed.

October 22, 2007  05:32 PM ET

Yea same for Benson too.

October 22, 2007  05:38 PM ET

who was better.. 2000 Ravens D or current Patriot O

October 22, 2007  05:40 PM ET

pats

The Bears were one dimensional last year and it took a real Conference(AFC) to expose their fraudulent offense for what it was-Rex Grossman(amazing Seahawks and Saints couldnt beat Rex-led team, but that just goes to show you how much NFC sux.) The Packers of 2007 would have given the Colts of '06-07 much better SB competition than the Bears did. Vote to Packers.
