After a terrible placing last year (7th) and low expectations heading into this year, Liverpool has started off with three 1-0 victories, and sit on top of the table in the EPL. My question is, will Liverpool be real contenders? (Place in a Champions League position).

Yes!

Last year was a write-off. Brendan Rodgers was in his first year, and had to implement a new system, and didn't have the players he wanted. They started off terrible, taking them 6 matches to get their first W, and after 14 games were 3-7-4. However after learning Rodger's style they improved and finished over their final 24 games going a respectable 13-6-5.

Fastforward to this year, and the Reds have improved even more, adding players Rodger's wants. Most importantly, they added Simon Mignolet, the best keeper in the EPL. Last year, Pepe was horrible, and they could not upgrade anymore going from one of the worst to one of the best. He has started the year with 3 clean sheets.

Rodger has his boys playing great defense, and today added Sakho!!!!!!

Plus this year they have no European competitions to worry about, so their full focus is on the EPL.

Also, Suarez is returning.

I say no top 4 finish..
Which means season is a failure..

3 one nil victories means very little..
It just means you are doing just enough to squeak by..
It's kind of like holding on by a thread..
And if Suarez isn't happy, which he might be, then pool is really in deep trouble..

My top 4?
1. Man chitty
2. Man U..
3. Chelski
4. Arsenal
5. Spurs
6. Pool

Pool has finished 7th the past 2 years for a reason..
They just aren't that good..

I think my top 4 are cemented..
Spurs will struggle without bale..

Arsenal scared me for abit..
But now we got our man ozil!
Top 4 should be easier than last year..
Giroud isn't brilliant but he will get a ton of tap ins..

This isn't the same team as the past two years. They are playing under a new system and coach, that they began to implement last year. Had Liverpool finish over their last 24 games at a pace good enough for the top 4. If they kept their 13-6-5 pace over the first 14 games as well, they would have finished 21-10-7, the same record as Arsenal.

Last year Liverpool also had some bad luck. They had the 5th best goal differential (+28), and had the most shots in the entire EPL.

They have won 3 games, so they maybe doing just enough, but they are the only team to start off 3-0-0. And they have done it without their best player, Suarez. Suarez has publicly said he is happy to be back in Liverpool, and glad for all the support and loyalty the team has shown.

Suarez, to go with the rising stars in Coutinho, and Sturridge (England's national team new top striker), gives the Reds one of the best attacks in the game.

The backend has shown how terrific it is, with the new Keeper, and then on deadline da they added Sakho! Plus Toure has yet to play.

A Bale-less Spurs, and the train-reck happening at United, will allow the Reds to finish higher than them.

You are over estimating man U's problems..
There is no way the Red Devils go from 1st to 5th..
If they had lost Rooney, maybe..
But they didn't lose wazza..
I saw the Chelsea vs Man U fixture..
And Man U still looked pretty darn good to me..

Spurs aren't going to be as good as last year..
But with the additions of soldado and pauhlino..
I still fancy Tottenham finishing above pool..
Starting off winning the first 3 games is noice..
But it was abit of a fluke..
I just don't like pool's squad..
And counting on the nutter Suarez to save your season is dangerous..
He is just someone you don't want to build a team around..

Funny. Back when it looked like Suarez was heading to Arsenal, you and every other Gunners fan was praising how amazing he is. You cannot deny Suarez's talent and ability, scoring the second most goals last year, and is just heading into his peak years at age 26.

Plus Suarez will be returning to his natural position, as a winger on the left side. A position he played with Ajax exclusively, and still plays regularly with Uruguay. Add in Sturridge, who is quickly becoming a star, at centre-forward, with Courtinho behind him, with Moses on the right wing...suddenly you have one of the best, if not the best, attacking groups in the EPL.

Gerrard is an anchor in the mid, along with consistent defensive mid-fielder in Lucas, and Liverpool has a solid mid-field, when those two are healthy. And I've already praised how strong Liverpool is defensively, and in net.

Rooney is not the player he use to be. He is like Torres after his move to Chelsea. Still young, but to worn down and broken down, and a headcase. He wont even be in the starting 11.

The Spurs lost Bale. ManU has issues all over the field. Arsenal has no strikers. And Mourinho in Chelsea is hating all his players.

I agree that with Suarez, and a healthy gerrad..
It could be quite lethal..
However
Pool just doesn't have alot of good quality "household name" players..

Sturridge
Lucas
Suarez
Skyrtel
Gerrad

Those are the only guys barca/REAL would have interest in..
That's why you keep finishing 7th..
Gerrad is the only quality offensive minded/creator..
Stevie G is 33!
If he goes down, Suarez and sturridge get significantly less chances..
Plus the squad has little depth..
You have no good substitutes coming off the bench..
You take away Suarez from the picture..
And then your offense can only muster up one lousy goal a game..

Rooney is not as bad as Torres!
He has declined alittle bit, in terms of pure striker..
However
Wazza still has beautiful vision and has turned into one of the best passers/set up men..
Torres on the other hand is a dreadful passer, who has little vision..

Man U and spurs will finish ahead of pool..
They both have alot more depth..
Van persie alone has shown he can drag a team to 4th all by himself..
He dragged arsenal to 4th in his last year at London..
Spurs used the bale money on quality soldado and pauhlino..

Didn't get to fit it all in. But adding Sakho is huge! That is an incredible signing. He is one of the best CB in the game, and still only 23.

And Liverpool has so much depth up front now. Suarez is one of the game's best strikers and Sturridge has been absolutely terrific (13 goals in 17 caps, and 3 in 3 this year). The Coutinho signing last year is looking great, and he provides some great offense. I like the Moses loan move too, and Toure gives them depth on the back.

They also have signed Ilori, and from what I hear he is a great future piece. Not sure if he will crack the top 11 any time soon, but has a bright future. To go with Wisdom, Kelly, Sterling, and the guys I already talked about...Liverpool is gonna be a force for a very long-time. This team is so young, and has so much potential.

For the first time in years, I'm feeling excited and optimistic on Liverpool. They are gonna be a top 4 team this year, I think, and will be even better long-term.

There's a reason the last five soccer threads have 3 comments in total.

If your Gunners get Ozil, I think they can finish top four too. I think it will be City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal in the top 4. United's run is over.

Speaking German in Texas

In Texas there is a town called New Braunfels, where there is a large German-speaking population.

One day, a local rancher driving down a country road noticed a man using his hand to drink water from the rancher's stock pond.

The rancher rolled down the window and shouted: "Sehr angenehm! Trink das Wasser nicht. Die Kuehe haben darein geschissen."

This means: ???Glad to meet you! Don't drink the water. The cows have dumped in it."

The man shouted back: "I'm from New York and just down here campaigning for Obama's health care plan. I can't understand you. Please speak in English."

The rancher replied: "Use both hands."

completely agree with you Argos, I thought Liverpool was going to be a sleeper team heading into this year, and they'll be in competition. top 6 definitely, and they could possibly pass Man U, Man City, or Chelsea to sneak into the top 3.
