The Steinbrenner kids should be banished to LA and forced to play with the Hilton kids and not be allowed to run the Yankees.

Grown ups should not let imature stupid kids who never worked a day in their lives run their empires. George Steinbrenner inherited his empire and kept it status quo. He bought the Yankees as a toy and when he wanted to play with it they had great teams. When he was tired of his toy he abandoned it (the 83-92). His kids are already off to a horrible start. George it's not too late you still have a pulse. PLEASE SELL THE TEAM!!!!

From a PR stance they are off to a horrible start- Hank never should have responded to Torre's comments... but from a baseball standpoint, they are off to a fine start.

Their contract offer to Joe Torre may have been an "insult" to Torre, to but to Steinbrenners, it was an offer designed to give a manager one last chance.

And that's something Torre has earned through the years- another chance to prove that he can recapture the magic that brought 4 titles to Bronx. Another chance to prove that all these first round playoff losses are nothing but a thing of the past.

In New York, with that bloated payroll- with all those all-stars- getting bounced from the playoffs in the first round for the past 3 years, not making it to the World Series in 4 seasons, and not winning the World Series in 7 seasons is unacceptable.

It sounds ludicrous to most organizations- but the Yankees really do expet to win a championship every year. And in that mindset, the past 7 years have been losing years to them.

Wait and see how they replace Torre before crucifying these kids.

They are spoiled 3rd generation rich kids. They shouldn't be running a convenience store let alone the Yankees. There offer was not designed to give Torre one last chance. It was designed to force him out. Now there at risk A Rod, Rivera, Posada and every other free agent goes and we'll see that lofty payroll go much higher. Torre did not decide to make the Yankees have that high payroll it was the 2nd generation rich kid.

It sounds like you have a complex, like you're jealous of people with money. Having money doesn't make people dumb- and just because some rich kids act like idiots, does not make that the case for all of them. These "kids" have been groomed to take this position for years, and they are more than ready.

And if this move costs the Yankees ARod, Posada and Rivera then so be it- Posada and Rivera are older players who the Yankees are going to have to replace sooner than later anyway. ARod will go whereever he thinks he'll get the most money- as all Boras clients seem to do.

And since when does losing the highest paid player in the game, the highest paid closer and one of the highest paid catchers increase your payroll? It isn't like the Yankees are going to replace them with higher priced talent! And if you think they will- I'd like some names of players.

Now please tell me why it matters if it was Joe Torre's decision or not to increase the payroll to $200 million. Would he have been better off with a $50 million payroll?

People are hired to do jobs. The Yankees manager is hired to win World Series. He stopped doing that. He wasn't doing the job he was hired to do.

I habe nothing against rich people except the ones that didnt work for it. I've worked for everyting I have and I know a lot of people born rich and they are good hardworking people. How can you say this t fruitloops were groomed for this position? I have been a Yankee fan all my life and I dont recall ever hearing about Steinbrenners kids. Do you really think salaries are going down? Your right high priced talent will leave and we will pay more for mediocre unproven players. Expect the 80's.

How many more years do you think Rivera and Posada have left in them? Honestly. Their runs with the Yankees were going to end sooner or later whether they left via free agency or retired.

But its funny how you dont recall hearing anything about Steinbrenner's kids, but you're really quick to point out that they are lazy kids- you know they're both middle aged men, right? So stop calling them kids.

They have made one move in their tenure- getting rid of a manager who was no longer winning as much as he was expected to win- and you immediately say its going to be like the 80's again.

This is a ridiculously rash judgment to make. The sky is not falling because Joe Torre is no longer the manager. The talent- even without ARod, Rivera and Posada- is still there.

They should ALL be banished to a remote island off Bora-Bora and supplies flown in via Stealth Bomber so as not to warn them of any "incoming" packages falling from the sky.
My 10yr. old neice is smarter than the lot of them put together.
Torre has nothing to prove to Boy George he has'nt already proven. Torre was right to move on down the line and beat Boy George at his own game ... If Torre wins from another city would Georgie cry foul ?
HAHAHAHAHAHA ............................................................

October 21, 2007  02:40 PM ET

I say we send them to Iraq/and the stans to find Osama... So.. we can kill 2 birds with one stone

October 21, 2007  02:58 PM ET

Umm...can I go play with the Hilton kids. I know a nice game of hide and go seek that I can play with Paris and Nicky.

October 21, 2007  02:58 PM ET

Maybe we can play hide the bone? Just suggestions.

October 22, 2007  05:52 AM ET

Justin, I have absolutely no idea how your argument completely pushed me to vote for St, considering I came in expecting to vote against him right away.

Wow. Terrible, terrible showing.

October 22, 2007  05:53 AM ET

do you just follow my throwdowns and vote against me these days
haha

October 22, 2007  06:26 AM ET

Since their father is rich that makes the kids immature and stupid? Sorry, I don't follow that logic at all.

Hank Steinbrenner has more business experience than 99% of the people in the free world. How is he unqualified, exactly?

October 22, 2007  07:39 AM ET

What has they done? Just saying they have more experience simply does not make it true. How many jobs have they had that weren't because of their father or for their father. How many franchises did they work for that wernt for their father? Yes they are middle aged men and if their gaol was to run the Yankees they should have been involved since they were kids. They arent baseball people and times will be tough for Yankee fans.

October 22, 2007  11:27 AM ET

The kids (who are in their frigging 50's) have been working with the team for years now. They are more than prepared. And they're doing the right thing cleaning out the geriatric closet and bringing in youth and talent.

October 22, 2007  02:28 PM ET

50' 20's who cares. I wouldn't call what they did work and everything was handed to them on a sliver platter and if we don't want geriatrics why do we always sign every over the hill player or pitcher. How many frigging over 40 pitchers have we signed?

October 22, 2007  02:58 PM ET

If Georges sons were wrong, then how did one of the teams in the W. S. get there by turning to their farm system and trading for players that don't require millions of dollars to play ? (although after the WS the payroll may go up some)The Yankees have a VERY GOOD farm system and they can afford to shrink their payroll a bit by letting a few High Priced veterans go elsewhere

October 22, 2007  03:52 PM ET

Your missing the point. The Yankees stopped using their farm system as they did in the mid 90's and started bringing in old players to fill positions. Do you not think Torre would be good grooming the young players as he did when he was hired? NYC is a hard place to manage, ask Willie Randolph, don't you think if they are transitioning Joe is a known quantity and would be best at that task and handling the media?
Not the Steinbrenners they prefer to blame Joe for not going 13 for 13 in WS every year. Yankee fans plan for the worst and a cavalcade of managers.

IF your job is to fix computers and you don't fix computers then you get fired.

IF your job is to train lions and you don't train lions then you get fired

IF your job is to win World Series and you don't a World Series in 7 years. You get fired..

It's that simple.

Great manager, but it was time to go.

October 22, 2007  04:23 PM ET

This throwdown should be ripe full of jokes, but yet all of you are taking this seriously.

For shame...

October 22, 2007  04:33 PM ET

Torre's last chance was this season as A-Rod is gone and Posado, Giambi may soon follow.

October 22, 2007  04:33 PM ET

Posada, sorry, its my Italian roots that always have me butchering that name.

October 22, 2007  05:27 PM ET

Yea. I can see the first joke being in the headlined--banish them to play with the Hilton kids?

That's your punishment...hell, I'd love if that was my reward.

October 22, 2007  05:28 PM ET

Where are all the players they have been supposedly drafting year after year ? You can't tell me the Steinbrenners are stupid enough to draft players then trade them away for high dollar vets are you ? That's not good business and I thought the Steinbrenner sons were supposed to business men (one of them at least)
