I don't like the one game wild card..
It's cheap and measly..

It feels weird that arroyo, latos and bailey never got a chance to pitch..
Or if it were the tigers.. Then verlander never gets a chance to pitch..

A best of 3 series would be more fair and more exciting..

Both wild card games this year lacked drama..
The pirates cruised against the reds..
The rays easily handled the Indians..

To ensure there's no 163rd game..
In the event of a tie..
It goes by head to head record..
If that's a tie..
Then it goes by divisional record..

Lose the 163rd game.. And give us a more exciting wild card 3 game series..

I like the one game WC playoff.

It helps when your team wins but the idea is to put WC teams at some disadvantage to the division winners but not a big disadvantage. The atmosphere that was created in Pittsburgh and Cleveland was electric. Some of that had to do with those teams not making the playoffs for a while but some was also the one and done nature of the game. It gives it the 'anything can happen' feel of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. It makes it must see!

Plus playing 3 games will just drag the playoffs well into November. No one wants to see a LCS or WS in the snow a real possiblilty in Northern cites like Boston, Detroit or Pittsburgh. A 3 game WC series could also put a WC team at a big disadvanatage to a Division winner due to using their top 2 or 3 pitchers right before the LDS starts. There is also more of a chance of injury to a WC team's pitchers or position players in a 3-game vs. a 1-game series just casue of the 2 extra games IMO.

I don't favor elimating the play-in tie braker game. Any other tie braker is unfair due to unbalanced schedules. It is long standing tradition to play the extra game if two teams end tied for a playoff spot.

I'm not going to win this.. But whatever..

The 163rd game needs to be eliminated..
What happens if you have 6 teams tied for 2 wild card spots?
It gets ugly..
And there is no prestige to it either..
No one cares if you made it to the 163rd game, it's kind of like kissing a dog..

But the play offs are special..
Make it to the play offs and you can put that on your r??sum?? for life..
Since the play offs are special, they need to be treated as such..
The one and done game in the wild card round is kind of like a McDonald's $1 double cheeseburger..
Expanding the wild card to a best of 3 game series, automatically turns it into filet mignon..

The 163rd game needs to stay!

You say the playoffs are special but you'd rather break a tie for a division crown with some fifth degree comparison of records than settle it on the field. If we went your way 'Giants win the Penent' would never have happened. (Yeah! That was a play-in game!!!) and instead the tie would've been broken by best record against the NL West or some similar formula. With the unbalanced schedules in MLB the only similar opponents is within the division. The chances of 6 teams finishing with the same record over 162 games is very small. Unlike 16 games.

The play-in game has a lot of built in excitement and tension. Win and you go on to the playoffs, lose and your season is over. Can't beat it for suspense. Breaking ties on the field is special. Using math to break ties is boring!!!

The MLB season and playoffs are long enough as is. A three game WC series would add a week to the playoffs making them end well into November. I say no to more baseball in the snow!!!

You should put the wild card at a a disadvantage cause wild card isn't your mate bro..

Your 3rd agrument makes no sense to me HCF.

Is that your way of throwing in the towel???

The WC is clearly our friend. Before the WC there were only 2 divisions per league and no LDS just a LCS. The WC gives more teams a chance to make the playoffs. Having 2 WC teams per league just adds more excitement and suspense. A one game WC series makes the most sense b/c it adds the least days to the already long playoffs and creates a lot of suspense and tension. You're guaranteed an immediate elimination game which raises the stakes to winner takes all.

The play -in game is the fairest way to break a tie record in baseball given the unbalanced schedule. Settle it on the field not with math formulas!!!!!!!!!!!!

They don't have a 17th game in the NFL..
Losing it in baseball would not be a big deal..

In the event of a tie..
Divisional record first..
Then head to head..

Sore loser!

The NL game was very exciting for Pirate fans. It was great to watch a crowd get in the head of an opposing pitcher. #Choke.

It's Buctober!!!

LET'S GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!

Latos was hurt. That's why he didn't pitch. And since the Bucs just beat Arroyo and Bailey the last weekend of the season how would they have mattered? The Reds missed out on facing Cole.

Right!

Only fans that are way over it do TDs still crying about the loss 4 days after the loss. ;^)

Reds would have fared better against Cole. The Reds are terrible against lefties, (because their three best hitters are lefties, and Choo has terrible Lefty splits), and Lirano dominates lefties.

Some people are questioning whether Latos was really injured, or if he just didn't want the pressure after blowing it last year.

The World Series is already running into November as it is. Lengthen out the play-ins and we'll soon be flirting with Thanksgiving.

I tend to agree but on the other hand I can see Froggy's point. If we're gonna include an extra Wild Card game, why leave it up to blind luck?

Anything can happen in a one game playoff; a best of three series would help ensure the more deserving team advances.

Then again, like you said, willie, we don't need Holiday baseball. There's already a LOT of baseball in the cold weather months, which is goofy if you ask me.

It's a damn summer sport.

As you can see I am conflicted.

I would add that a three game series would almost have to be structured as a 1-1-1, which would mean it would take about a week with travel days.

Hadn't thought of that... good point. One game is more than enough.

You want to go back to just 2 Divisions per league. I think there are too many teams to make that work anymore!
