2 sketchy teams from each conference to make the playoffs-u can't count a div winner

Bills and Chargers
Rams and Lions

At this point, you can pretty much count in the Broncos and the Chiefs so 3 teams from the AFC West are going to the playoffs? If the Bills aren't a division winner but make the playoffs that's at least 2 teams from AFC East. That's 5 teams total, and we have 2 AFC division champions left. Are you going to leave out the AFC North champion or AFC South champion?

You've got the same problem in the NFC. Seahawks and 49ers are in. Rams make 3 teams. Lions plus I assume Packers makes 5. Another division champ gets left out.

Great throwdown.

so if they're winning enough games to be a wild card, how exactly are they sketchy?

I should have known this one would end up as a zombie...

Oh, how I long for the good ol' days of RStowe, Porkins, even CCC and Cassidy's House AKA Roy.

Throwdowns actually meant something, and the moderators seemed to actually do their job rather than removing random comments from throwdowns.

I don't frequent this site nearly as often as I used to. Primarily because as I get older and my family gets bigger and work gets more demanding, I just don't have the time. I do wish that when I did decide to visit, it was actually worth stopping by.

I'm not sure why Sports Illustrated even bothers to keep the site up and running. The Truth and Rumors section is garbage, the throwdowns are neglected, and I can't imagine that anyone bothers with the blogs or message boards.

It's like watching Dan Marino at the end of his career. You knew he should have hung it up 3-4 years prior, but you hoped that you might catch a glimpse of that old Dan Marino, the one who made you fall in love with the Dolphins. Instead, you just end up disappointed, wondering why he continued to put himself through it. Moreover why you continued to watch...

is this the point when you tell us how you used to walk 7 miles barefooted in the snow to school each way being uphill? yada yada yada, Porkins drops in every now & then and pardon if I hurt your feelings by saying he seems like a real jerk. Roy, we've all been exposed to so that certainly isn't a treat that I for one miss. CCC? ah well, I kind of found him to be a one trick pony. Stowe I vaguely remember but don't have a take on him. I wish the timer still worked but you takes what you gets til something better comes along

You come at me with this and Porkins is the real jerk?

I didn't say anything negative about anyone. I simply made a comment of nostalgia, reflecting on a time when this site was actually entertaining and worth something.

I don't really care what you think of the guys I mentioned. They were the ones that made this site worth something. Now, it's just... Well, look around.

As it is in life, it's the same here as well. It's up to everyone to create their own paradise. The people you mentioned are gone now. But, for those of us like you and myself the dream will never die. Your point is well taken DWS.

Broken timers and private groups have destroyed FN.

honestly think that the broken timer and the zombie TDs contributed to the rise of the private groups. you're almost surprised when a TD is completed anymore

I really do remember what you're talking about, I was around back then just wasn't commenting much. some of it was good, some of it not so much. I just re-read my comment, it wasn't so much an attack on you personally as the whole concept of the good ol'/bad ol' days. I actually enjoyed those few day when the T&R and private groups couldn't be used and everyone was hanging in the TD sections.

The few people here that know me know that I don't troll and don't usually go on the attack.

You're absolutely right by the way, I was being a jerk..........

how about we blame the actual problem?

like a lack of maintenance.

You're probably right. Even when the timer worked there were private groups but FN wasn't exclusively private groups like it is now.

Pretty sure broken timers and a lack of maintenance are kinda the same thing.

But in fairness the timer/lack of maintenance isn't hurting FN nearly as much as the private groups.

After all, what's the point of a public sports website when 99% of the users hide behind a group wall to say anything?

didn't most TDers leave before the broken timer happened?

broken timers don't ruin the TD process and it certainly wasn't the demise of this section. the final straw sure, but there are far worse problems than that. if people really wanted to TD they could still direct challenge and make it work. the problem is the lack of quality debaters and topics. nobody is hiding in private groups they'd just rather not have to deal with dupes, trolls, and mods (or lack of). so pretty much everyone left on this site...
