1. John rocker..
Never saw a guy so pumped up for a baseball game..
Had one good year for the braves and then disappeared..

2. Jose Lima..
Dude always used to crack me up with his antics..
And had several money quotes..

3. Ivanisevic..
Would take off his shirt every time he won a match at Wimbledon and celebrate..
After he won Wimbledon, he partied hard for 2 days..
And stripped to his underwear, dancing in the streets in Croatia..

4. Pedro Martinez..
Whether it was calling the Yankees his daddy..
Telling reporters he would drill the bambino in his a-s--s..
Or beating up 72er don zimmer..

5. The iggy shuffle..
The most famous celebration in all of sports..

6. Macenrore..
Made non tennis people excited to watch him, cause you never knew what crazy thing he would, or who he would scream at..

7. Joe Namath..
One of the most famous predictions in all of sports..
And hitting on the female reporter when he was wasted was classic..
"I just want to kiss you!"

8. Babe Ruth..
Got a candy bar named after him..
Had the most famous curse named after him..

9. Maradonna.. The hand of god..

10. Mario balotelli..
Biggest nutcase in soccer..

1 Babe Ruth

2 Ali

3 Michael Jordon

4 Wayne Gretsky

5 Magic Johnson

6 Roberto Clemente

7 Sugar Ray Leonard

8 Mario Lemieux

9 Pele

10 Hulk Hogan

Ok.. Our lists are very different..
I went for more colorful personalities..
Muhammad Ali is a good example..

I personally thought Michael Jordan's personality was alittle boring, kind of like Sampras..
Jordan also tried to stay away from controversey as much as possible..
Dennis rodman would have been a better example..

Gretzky was a great hockey player..
And he was alot of fun to watch..
But he never had that classic quote or did anything crazy..

I can't stand magic Johnson as a commentator..
Every time he opens his mouth, I want to turn the channel..

You have to have Macenroe..
I still watch some of his old clips, and it still makes me laugh..
The best Macenroe quote of all time?
"That ball was on the line!", screaming of course..
Plus who can forget the time he got defaulted at a grand slam match for being a jerk..

Of course our lists are different. Did you expect them not to be???

You apparently favor idiot behavior from jerks and jackwagons over entertaining performances. And our definitions of colorful characters is completly different. Ali had a very entertaining and colorful personality but he was not a jerk. He also backed up what he said in the ring! Rocker is nothing but a jerk and not even a good ball player either.

Macenroe loses points IMO for playing most of his career in the wooden racket era. Go play tennis with a wooden racket and then come back and tell us how exciting that is (not). If you take away his bad boy antics the tennis itself was pretty boring.

Magic Johnson's performance as a commentator has nothing to do with his performance on a basketball court! NOTHING!!!

Rodman over MJ. See jerk paragraph above and now he's hanging out with a vicious dictator. I see nothing entertaining about that!!!

The big flaw in this TD is covering over 100 years of all sports in a list of ten. Some big and very entertaining names will obviously be left off or forgotten (Willie Mays) but my list at least leaves the jerks off it!!!!!

Oh come off it..
The jerks were fun..
It's awesome for the crowd and gives them a chance to boo the bad guy..
There's nothing quite like a fully grown man having a mental break down in front of millions of people..
I guess it takes form of the psychology better him than me..
Plus in this ultra tight society we live in, it's always noice to see people rebel..

Your list includes alot of goodie two shoes..
They don't drink they don't smoke..
They are predictable and boring..
I want to idolize a guy who will take me back to his place and let me B-one his sister..
Your guys probably drink wine with their wives and talk about how it's so great to be noice to everyone..
To me, a movie that is great.. Is a movie that does not have a happy ending..
Cause life isn't always about being happy..

I have fun in your little fairy world..

"My list is a lot of goodies two shoes"? Excuse me while I go ROTFLMAO for a few hours!

I think you finally went off the deep end here!!! Jerks aren't fun to hang with! All I want to do with jerks is punch them out!!!

My list with the exception of Clemente was/is not a bunch of saints! A lot of them had off field issues to overcome. Babe Ruth was one of the biggest off field partyers in the history of sports. Ali and Magic have very seriouslybad illnesses. Jordon had a gambling problem. Mario overcame cancer to come back and play hockey at a high level. Clemente was killed delivering humanatarian aid to an earthquake ravaged country. Yeah! [b]who[/] would want to hang out with a man like that???

I could go on but I think I've proven my point!!!

You hang out with your list of jerks and bad boys. And I'll hang out with my list of so called saints and pick the brains of some of the greatest men to play sports or entertain us (Hogan).

In the end you'll be sure to get the unhappy ending you say you enjoy so much!!!!

There's no such thing as the "Iggy Shuffle". It's called the "Ickey Shuffle" after Bengals RB Ickey Woods.

Actually, you're 100% wrong. Tennis was much more fun to watch with wooden rackets, because it required power and finesse, not just power. Tennis today is just power at the baseline. You used to have different styles (i.e. net players, baseline players) and was a much more competitive game.

The new rackets are a big reason people don't care to watch any more. It's doubtful the Wililams sisters would be as dominant if the rackets had less power.

So far I think right has the better list... but I LOVE that Balotelli guy.

I rememebr there being net players during the early years of metal rackets. Edenberg(I think that's how you spell his name) was fun to watch but playing at the net takes a lot of skill and very qucik wrists. With the oversized rackets no one wants to put in the work to get good at the net but instead take the eazy way and just stay back and blast away from the baseline.

I don't watch tennis anywhere near as much as I did in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I guess the lack of different styles of play has something to do with that.

Ah yes, Stefan Edberg. You're right. He was one of the last serve and volleyers, along with Boris Becker. I'm pretty sure the advanced rackets killed the serve-and-volley game, because players can unleash winners from the baseline so easily. You'll lose quickly if you try to approach the net. I'm not saying we should go back to wooden rackets, but you can definitely see a change in the way the game was played when the metal and composite rackets started coming in.

Probably the most intriguing question is whether Martina Navratilova would've been able to succeed to the same level with the new rackets. Her game was all serve and volley. Graf was the first of the real power baseline players and she came on just as Martina was getting too old, so we'll never really know. But I think Martina would've won less majors. How many is anyone's guess.

Babe Ruth seems like a pretty good #1, in my opinion.

Edberg! I added extra letters. In my defends I couldn't spell cat if you spotted me the c, the a and the t!!! :o)

Martina's main rival Chris Evert-Llyod was mainly a baseliner and would have benefited more from the new rackets. We'll never know how many but Martina definitely would've lost some wins to Chrissy.
