We all know Winston avoided charges in the alleged rape case in Tallahassee, which ensured that he wouldn't face a University imposed suspension. But does that mean Winston was deserving of the Heisman?
For one, I'm sick of hearing that Winston was a shoo-in for the award when the Tallahassee DA decided against bringing charges against Winston. Some of the details that have emerged from the investigation should have received a bit of consideration from the Heisman voters before the ballots were cast.
Let's not confuse the Heisman Trophy with the Maxwell Award or the Walter Camp Award, which are merely competing College Football Player of the Year Awards. The Heisman is a bit different, in that it has a loftier mission statement:
"The Heisman... recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with intregrity... The Heisman Trust ensures the continuation and integrity of this award. Our goal... is for the Heisman Trophy to symbolize the fostering of a sense of community responsibility and service to our youth..."
Jameis Winston's selection as the Heisman winner is a black eye for the award.

There are people out there think he deserves the heisman. No one deserves the reward from what his play and his stats show. Me personally I think that freshman should not be even qualified for the heisman.
The only thing that I can argue with you is this... Quote from you Jamies Winston selection is a black eye for the award....Johnny manziel didn't last year. It been having a black eye for years. Reggie Bush had to give the award back...so in point no one knows if he was 100 percent deserving of the award...but black eye has been on that trophy for years.
Plus I don't think a lot of players were deserving of it. Plus you can not blame a player off the field issues as the decision of the award...he is 19 I find that impressive what he can do on the field and not a criminal background.. Service to our youth did not say Reggie bush took all that money..
Integrity does not mean media hype of the award and the player it goes too. Tebow won the award media hype. All about the media nothing of what it stands for...

Integrity: to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty

Aside from the conflicting stories about the alleged rape, the most troubling aspect I found was the questioning of teammate Chris Casher, who initially claimed he went into the bedroom to prank Winston. In future discussions, Casher claimed he went into the bedroom to see if the women would have sex with him as well, as Winston and Casher had done so numerous times in the past.
Let that sink in, rape investigation aside, the 2013 Heisman winner routinely brought back intoxicated females to have sex with him and his teammate.
Your belief that you cannot blame a player for off-field transgressions is a major problem that big-time collegiate athletics face, it not only creates a dangerous atmosphere around the program (see Penn St), it also gives many of these players an undeserved sense of entitlement.
The players are not held accountable for their actions.
Awarding Jameis Winston the 2013 Heisman is validation for today's youth that winning on the field is all that matters.
Integrity be damned.

First of all I'm not debating about what happened off the field incident I don't care. I look at what the player did on the field. The heisman pretty much is what matters on the field. Jeez I'm not going to read 248 pages on the heisman trophy no one is to know how good of a college football he is during his freshman season.
I'm not going to debate what type of person this guy is. I look and the college football board thought he deserved the award based on his on the field play.
Did he deserve college football did plus he is 19...college football players make mistakes all the time though..
