do you try and beat Baltimore and potentially take the 3rd or 2nd seed?
I'm taking the 4th seed..
Mostly cause i believe in resting tired and banged up players..
Plus there is noooo way the pats lose to the bills and the colts won't lose to the jags either..
Plus plus:) the chargers are probably better than the chiefs..
AND Baltimore has been cincinati's daddy for the past 10 years..
If your lucky, you get the fins..
But there is an excellent chance the fins lose against the jets this week, so I wouldn't count on that..
Give your starters week 17 off..
Let the cinci players be as fresh as possible vs the chiefs..
And then hope for the best..
I know I predicted the chiefs would beat the bung-holes..
But tiring yourself out vs a desperate ravens, so you can capture the 3rd seed, just doesn't make any sense..

you absolutely play to win this game. To not do so is foolish for a variety of reasons.
1. Winning playoff games, no matter who it's against is hard. Ask the Saints traveling to Seattle a few years back. If you can win this game, and the Pats lose, you don't have to worry about beating someone wild card weekend since you get to watch from home. Seems like a much better option to me then being fresh for a game you otherwise wouldn't have to play.
2. Rust. Sitting your star players can often times put your offense in a funk. Look at all those dominant Colts runs where they sat the last few weeks then threw out a stinker of a performance and lost. Don't take the risk.
3. Bragging rights. With a win you knock out one of your biggest rivals and the defending champs in the Ravens in one fell swoop. And that's the same team they lost to in OT in November. The Bengals have struggled to put together a consistent performance week after week and it'd be foolish to mess with any chemistry at this point.

Manning and the broncos are automatically going to get a week off..
And we both know in the AFC divisional round they are going to be ready..
You have bye weeks in football.. And that rarely affects momentum..
In college football, you get a 5 week break before the national championship..
Taking one week off isn't going to do anything..
The problem with those colts teams was they started resting with 2 or 3 games left in the regular season..
I watched the game last night between the falcons and 49ers..
And there were a lot of vicious hits..
Taking a week off means your team will be a lot fresher..
I remember Jerome b??tis once said, (the RB for the steelers), that it would take 4 or 5 days to recover from a football match.. And when I say recover, I mean he could barely walk up and down steps for 5 days.. The physical toll of these games is huge..
Kansas has nothing to play for, now that they are locked into the 5th seed..
I'm pretty sure the chiefs will rest their players in the last week..
So if your gamble backfires.. Your bengals are:
1. Tired and banged up..
2. Cinci's confidence will be low cause they just lost to the ravens AGAIN..
3. KC is rested..

Look. This is pretty simple. Who do you think the Bengals would rather play in the first round of the playoffs?
1. The Chiefs
2. Whoever qualifies as the 6th seed
3. No one.
It's pretty obvious that the choice would be no one followed by the 6th seed, followed by the Chiefs. Given that common sense logic, it makes sense you go out to win the game. You play the noon slate and as a coach you can always scoreboard watch. You go out and try light up the Ravens early and put them away by flexing your muscles as a team and playing your best football. Indy is going to win over Jax I would imagine and NE plays the late game. Win the game and put the pressure on NE to hold serve to hold home field. In the NFL, any seed is dangerous thus playing to win the game and clinch a 2 seed is HUGE.
If you want to come with argument that if you lose, your gamble backfires, I'll come at you with this. When do you ever play the game with the intention of losing? Do you think (not saying they are or aren't) any player on the Bengals team thinks they are worse than the Ravens? He LL no. They're thinking we're going to pump them and get the 2 seed or at worst the 3.

Sometimes in life, you have to go backwards in order to go further forward in the future..
Sometimes in life, doing nothing is the best thing you can do..
Cinci "wants" to win this game..
But the ravens HAVE to win this game..
And yes in life, HAVE to usually beats "want to"..
The ravens are obviously a bad match up for cinci..
The ravens have the bung-holes number..
Baltimore is cinci's nemesis..
What's the point of playing them if you don't have to?
Plus it's always a good idea to give the back up QB some practice..
You get to see if he has any talent..
And if dalton gets injured in the first quarter vs the chiefs..
At least your back up had some decent practice..
kalbrecht17 said 12/27, 04:32 PM
the backup is totally irrelevant to the Bengals. Their backup is Josh Johnson, who has been established to be only as good as what he is with the Bengals. A back up. And if Dalton gets hurt, it's over for the Bengals. Look at the potential playoff teams. The only one whose backup has played well is the Bears and the only reason they're even still in it is due to Rodgers going down and the Lions implosion.
If I'm Cinci, I'm looking at it like this. We might be leading our division, but we're doing so with a losing record within division. People are still doubting we're legit as contenders. It's the Broncos, Pats, maybe the Chiefs, then no one else. I look at this weekend as a chance to prove the doubters wrong, show the other teams we are a team to be reckoned with, eliminate a hated rival in the Ravens, and gear up for a match up with the **** Dolphins. And if things fall right, we could even get a first round bye that we can rest during and watch other teams be eliminated. You play to win this game to advance furthest in the playoffs. playing to beat the chiefs is dumb if you don't have to play them at all.
