Score 40+ points....Im not saying who will beat the pats, or when, or any of that crap..but i am sayin whatever team does beat them, will have to put up 40+ to do it. The pats really look like they cant be stopped. I hate to say that a division rival is practicly unbeatable....but........

The team that beats the Pats will not do it by scoring 40+ points, they will do it by holding them to 24-. While the Pats O does look unstoppable right now, lets consider exactly what D's they have gone up against. They D's they have faced thus far rank as follows: 8, 16, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32. Five of the worst 6 D's in the league.

You dont beat a great team by getting in a shootout with them, you beat them by playing great defense against them.

Your looking at complete stats for week 7. If you look at the stats for EACH WEEK, WHEN THEY PLAYED THE PATS, you would find that 3 of the teams they played had a top 10 d....Sure, they are 5 of the 6 worst AFTER playing the pats.

How on GOD's green earth can you hold the pats to 24 points/???? What i mean is NE will get thiers...They will score 35 points, but you need to put up 40 to beat them. They will not lose a game 24-28...Wont happen...No way the pats only score 24

Let us then look at what team has been the preeminent offense in the NFL the past few seasons: the Indianapolis Colts. When Indy was 13-0 in 2005, and had been averaging 34.5/pts per game over their past 10 games, and they headed into San Diego. San Diego must have scored 40+ to beat them then, right? Wrong, they held the Colts to 17 to beat them. In their only other losses since then, they were held to 13, 18, 14, 17, 17, and 24. They didnt lose 35-45, they lost to teams who defended them well.

As GREAT of a team the 05 Colts were, i think your comparing apples to oranges..This NE team is Phenomial and is far superior to any team that this generation has EVER seen. You will not shut them down. Welker can catch the 7 yard IN route and turn it into a 30 yd gain. Moss can catch in double coverage like he's 22 agian. Stallworth is a threat wherever he lines up. I like your argument, and the points you are bringing out, but like i said, this team is 10x better then the 05 colts...

This New England team has played 7 games, 5 of which were against attrocious defenses, so let's relax a little. This team has a lot to prove before we annoint them the greatest team of our generation. Every year someone claims some teams is potentially the 'best ever' on O or D or overall, and half the time said team doesnt even end up winning the Super Bowl. Let see NE win something important before we go down that road. In the end, it will be a D that beats NE, not an O, mark my words.

Actually, the only way to beat the Pats is with a baseball bat. They won't be beat.

Ha! shut down the pass...now why didnt the NFL teams and coaches think of that brilliant advice.

October 22, 2007  11:47 AM ET

To beat them you have to stop them, you can't outscore them like Goodell suggests is necessary.

They will either lose: A) to Indy, just because you can't count a rivalry game like that out B) a sleeper game where an unexpected opponent challenges them (like in Miami a few years ago), or C) at the end of the season when they are resting starters, because I don't think they will play their starters just to go 16-0. They're in this to win the Super Bowl, not to go undefeated.

I like there chances against Indy. And I hope to see them again in JAN but this time in NE.

October 22, 2007  11:56 AM ET

I doubt they would rest starters...Bill Belichek is too arrogant. He not only wants to win, he wants to embarass teams. I think going undefeated is very important to him. After all he is a "perfectionist."

I hate the Pats, but this may be the best team every assembled. Hopefully they won't be able to keep them together long with the salary cap and all.

Then they can go back to winning with not-so-known recievers, take your pick !

Bomb their team bus?

I know that's the scary thing. They were a top tier team without the upgrades at WR. The defense is aging, but it seems like they plug anybody in their system and they produce.

Id like to see Troy Brown get in on some of the fun.
And of course awaiting the return of Pro-bowler Richard Seymour.

The only way to beat the Patriots is to initiate Civil War II.

I will free the Mexicans!

Wes Welker is a water bug !!! Thankyou Miami !
Oh, and thankyou Oakland too, for your contribution.

October 22, 2007  12:12 PM ET

They might go undefeated this season, who knows. But the way to beat them is to not make mistakes and give up big plays. Watch the pats-browns game. The Browns held the pats for most of the game within range. And this is a horrible defensed team. Is it possible they will lose? yes. Is it probable? No.

Randy Moss could catch a marble fired from a slingshot in triple coverage!!

"the preeminent offense in the NFL the past few seasons: the Indianapolis Colts"

You mean the one that was historically bad against the run last year? When you come down off of the acid, reevaluate that statement.

October 22, 2007  12:25 PM ET

OOps. Sorry dude. I read that as DEFENSE at first. On second consideration, you are totally right, and I am the one on acid.

October 22, 2007  12:34 PM ET

They face the number 3 defense in the NFL in Redskins this weekend (#1 in the NFC). The Redskins secondary has been playing outstanding defense this season holding down two of the top passing teams in consecutive weaks to VERY underpar numbers (Detroit: 72 yards, Green Bay: about 180 yards). I think this game will be better (and closer) than people think. I'm not saying we'll beat them, but we'll do well.
