Pick 5 of the 15.

I'm taking

Walter Jones
Charles Haley
Eddie Debartlo
Derrick Brooks
Michael Strahan

By the way, Steve Atwater not making the Finals is just sad.

Walter Jones
Marvin Harrison
Ray Guy
Morten Andersen
Michael Strahan

Well, Ray guy is a senior committee guy, so I really didn't count those two- so let me know if you want to still use him.

I don't have Marvin Harrison in there as there is a TON of WRs that deserve to go in, and I simply don't think he's getting the votes. I think Tim Brown is the "worst" of the 3 up there, but I think Reed deserves to go in before Marvin.

Marvin is 7th in Yards, but he's also in one of the most wideopen era in NFL history, but he was only top 5 4 times in his career, never even cracked 1800 yards and only popped 1500 THREE times.

Only top 5 in TDs twice, and again, thats with Manning at QB- not exactly a grind it out team.

Why do I put Mr D in?

He owned the team from 77-00, winning 5 Titles and having the most wins of ANY team in NFL history.

Not to mention he didn't use that power as a hammer over the other owners, lost many stars to Plan B free agency (The Lott loss alone might have cost him another ring) to keep the peace.

And the stories of him taking care of players families are well documented. Almost every player whom played in the NFL has said he was the best owner they ever played for.

My vote for Harrison was pretty much solely based on being named to the All Pro team 6 times, which I think is more than only 4 current HOFers. (2 other HOFers have 6, and JRice has 11, and Lance Alworth has 7).

Harrison WILL get into the HOF, maybe not on the first ballot, but he's deserving, and more deserving than Brown or Reed, IMHO. Reed was never named to the All Pro team.

I think Mr. D's chances of getting in are tainted by that legal trouble episode he went through, even though he was the one getting blackmailed in that situation. He paid a heavy price for not reporting a felony, but I'm assuming that taint (heh heh) on his record is keeping him out so far.

Is Ray Guy subject to different voting due to being named by the Senior Committee? Regardless - just put him in. Punting is a significant part of the game, and he was the best of his era. Would it kill the HOF to have one pure punter in their hallowed hall?

Harrison and Bettis to replace Debartolo Jr. and Haley.

Agree!

January 30, 2014  02:13 PM ET

Is this who you think the voters will vote in or who you should think should get in... because those aren't necessarily the same thing.

January 30, 2014  02:39 PM ET

Who I'd like to see get in this year...

Andre Reed
Tim Brown
Ray Guy
Jerome Bettis
Walter Jones

Although I acknowledge there's virtually zero chance that both Reed and Brown would be inducted in the same year. Those guys and Ray Guy have simply had to wait way too long.

January 30, 2014  02:54 PM ET

I put who I would vote for, not who I think will get in.

January 30, 2014  02:55 PM ET

Though, I think Jones and Brooks are locks.

January 30, 2014  03:08 PM ET

Jones NEEDS to make it. The other guys I'm sort of indifferent on.

January 30, 2014  03:08 PM ET

Guys who I really don't want to see get in this year...

Tony Dungy
It should take more than one ring for a head coach to get into the HOF. And he could never get that Tampa Bay team over the hump. John Gruden got that same team a Super Bowl win in his first season, why couldn't Dungy? That's not a HOFer IMO.

Morten Anderson
I like Morten Anderson a lot, I really do. But there's only one pure placekicker in the HOF right now (Jan Stenerud). And I don't believe that Morten Anderson is one of the best two pure placekickers of all time. I'd rather see Adam Vinatieri, with his two Super Bowl winning field goals, get in as the second-ever kicker in the HOF. And then maybe several years down the road, see Anderson get as a Senior Committee Finalist.

Marvin Harrison
Receivers normally have to wait a lot longer than other positions: Lynn Swann, Art Monk, John Stallworth all had to wait 10+ years. Marvin Harrison was HOF good. But IMO he wasn't first-year of eligibility induction good. Andre Reed and Tim Brown are equally deserving, and they've waited longer. It'd be a crime if Marvin Harrison got in this year with Reed and Brown still on the outside looking in.

Michael Strahan
Another guy who I just don't think deserves to be inducted so quickly. He's what, roughly 60 sacks behind guys like Bruce Smith and Reggie White? And that single-season sack record was handed to him on a silver platter by Favre. Make him wait.

John Lynch
How did he get further than Steve Atwater? I liked Lynch. He was blue collar. But I never thought of him as a HOFer and I'm probably wrong for that. But Steve Atwater was better.

Always liked Andre Reed too but his stats aren't THAT overwhelming and the Bills weren't THAT successful during his tenure.

That's true. And he did play in the weaker conference.

You put that same Buffalo Bills team in the NFC East (aka the division that roughshod on them in four straight Super Bowls) and they'd be lucky to get into the Wild Card round.

Yeah, that Marino guy they played twice a year and that Elway dude just plain sucked.

January 30, 2014  03:54 PM ET

NFC Had Either Aikman (early years) or Randall, Rypen or whomever the Cards drug out, oh, and Phil Simms.

The Bills got to play with Marino, Ken O'Brian and Jeff George. (and Marc Wilson)

4 years later at the end of the bills run, you have Drew Blesdoe (Lead the league in passing)
Dan Marino (#2) Boomer (#15) and Jim Harbaugh.

There are NO NFC East QBs in the top 10 that year- with Randall at 11, and Aikman still trying but at 16. Add in Heath Shuler and Jay Schroder and whoooo.

Keep in mind Warren Moon and the Oilers too in the weak conference.

Those teams won four straight Super Bowls against the Buffalo Bills. Which was my point.

Now you can go ramble on in any other random direction you wish, like you were doing. Just don't think I'm going to accept that as an intelligent rebuttal.

January 30, 2014  04:38 PM ET

Unless you're just attempting to compare conferences in general? I mean, what's the scope here? Just the Buffalo Bills, the entire AFC, Andre Reeds career?

All I know is that from 1984 through 1996, the NFC won 13 consecutive Super Bowls.

January 30, 2014  04:39 PM ET

If I'm rememebering this right, I thought Eddie Debartlo was forced to sell the team to his sister cause he violated some league rules about gambling or owning gambling and not disclosing it to the league or signing players to illegal contracts, something along those two lines. Point is since he was forced out of onership due to some league rules violations I doubt they'd put him in the HOF no matter how deserving. But I could be wrong.

Yup.

LA Gov Edwin Edwards demanded a bribe to give him a casino license, and EB didn't turn him in.

I know I know, a Louisiana politician being a sumbag.

No Snitchin is what got him in trouble (and he never paid the bribe)

Go NFC. Always been the stronger conference (since I've watched), hopefully always will be.

NFC, NL, Western Conference. All superior.
