rules: Each player on your list must have played 3 years or less in the NBA.

For positions, i am using Yahoo! Sports

and without further ado

PG- Chris Paul- 2 Years in League averaged 17.3 PPG and 8.9 APG, won ROY in 2005-2006
SG- Ben Gordon, 3 YIL. The ultimate 6th man, last year averaged 21.4 PPG in 33 Minutes
SF- Luol Deng- 3 YIL, really stepped up last year in his first full year starting, averaged 18.8 PPG and 7.1 APG
PF- Al Jefferson, this was his first year with over 20 Minutes per game, and he made the most of it, averaged 16.0 PPG and 11.0 RPG
C- Dwight Howard- laste year averaged 17.6 PPG, 12.3 RPG, 3 years in league

There ya go G.O.A.T, blast me on this because i know little about basketball

Very good picks, nomarfan, and I simply cannot disagree with Jefferson, Dwight, and Luol. However, I DO disagree with your backcourt.

At point guard, I would much rather have Deron Williams. But it's kind of funny, if you look at the stats of CP3 and Williams they are pretty close to the same thing in nearly every single category. Paul's scoring average is a little better but Williams' assists per game average is a little better. So I can only go on a few things. One of them is leadership. Deron Williams led the Illinois Fighting Illini to a number one seed in the NCAA tournament and were the runner-ups. Last year, he led the Utah Jazz to the playoffs. In fact, he led them all the way to the Conference Finals. The WESTERN Conference Finals. Now, it being his first big game experience you would think he might melt under the pressure. He most certainly did not. He became the youngest player in the history of the NBA to score 20 points and record 10 assists in a conference final game. You may ask who was guarding him. Who would allow a second-year player to do this to their team? Well, it was the veteran "best perimeter defender in the league" Bruce Bowen. He allowed it.

SG- Roy

What scoring threat does Paul have to dish to on the Hornets? None. Williams has Boozer (20.9 PPG) and Mehmet Okur (17.6)

Paul's leading scorers were David West (18.3 PPG) and Desmond Mason(13.7, no longer on team)

Williams is working with a lot more talent, and if you call leadership havingg a better team, than yes, Williams has been more of a leader, for in college, Illinois had much, much more talent than Wake Forest, IL. started Williams, Dee Brown, James Augustine, and Roger Powell, all NBA players. Wake Forest, not so much.

I consider leadership being able to lead a team, control the tempo of the game, and have your team overachieve, then I say Paul is the better leader, for he has almost no one offensively to work with, and he still manages almost 9 APG, lower by .4 than Williams, who played on a much better team.

The measure of a mans leadership is not the talent of his team, it is what he can d when his team has little talent, and I think Paul is the better leader

A small sidenote, Turnovers per game.

Williams- 3.1
Paul- 2.5

SG's next

First off, Mehmet Okur is not good. In the playoffs this past year, he averaged only 11.8 points per game. He is 6'11" and should be inside doing the dirty work yet he is outside launching up threes.

You obviously forgot Peja Stojakovic, who averaged 17.8 points a game last year which is much more than Desmond Mason. Also, Chris Paul did have some help down low with Tyson Chandler, who was pulling down 12 and a half boards a game.

You mentioned Brown, Augustine, and Powell as if they were great players or something. None of them are getting any serious PT in the NBA right now. Also, Paul played in the backcourt with, arguably, the greatest faceguarding defender in college at the time, Justin Gray. He also had a pretty decent big man, Eric Williams.

Now you are going to talk about overachievers, eh? I am pretty damn sure the Jazz making it to the WCF last year was overachieving for them. Am I right? THAT is overachieving. And if you even watched the WCF, you would have seen that Deron Williams was controlling the tempo almost perfectly in those games but he faced some illnesses late in the series that cost the Jazz. Looks like I ran out of space to talk about Roy. Sorry.

PEJA PLAYED 13 GAMES! ARE YOU KIDDING! he didn't help the Hornets AT ALL!

you say Okur stunk? prototype big man or not, he still averaged 17.6 PPg, almost as many as Stojakokic in his season changing 13 games! (sarcasm)

You also talk about rebounds? Boozer averaged 11.7 RPG, and the teams RPG difference wasn't huge, 12.5 Offensive RPG for the Jazz compared to 12.6 for the Hornets.

The Hornets were 39-43 in the best conference in the NBA, the Southwest.

Southwest team's records sans last place team- 216- 112
Nortwest sans last place- 160- 168

Biggggg competitiion defferential.

anyway, Brandon Roy vs. Ben Gordon

Minutes played
Roy- 35:17
Gordon- 33:00

PPG
Roy- 16.8
Gordon- 21.4

RPG
Roy- 4.4
Gordon- 3.1

APG
Roy- 4.0
Gordon- 3.6

Sht. %
Roy- 45.6
Gordon- 43.1

3 pt%
Roy- 37.7
Gordon- 41.8

FT%
Roy- 83.8
Gordon- 84.3

So, in 2 less minutes played, Gordon has a good deal more points, and less than one rebound and assist per game, which is comparable to the time differential.

I wouldnt' say that he didn't help them at all. In those 13 games, he averaged 18 points each game. They also went 9-9 in that stretch recording wins against Detroit, Golden State, and Houston to name a few.

In your rebounding paragraph, you pretty much said that Deron Williams led his team to the conference finals with a rebounding core equivalent to that of a sub-.500 team. Also, to go 39-43 in the best division (not conference, by the way) you have to have more than one good player. That shows that Chris Paul DID have help. More than you think he did.

These are all "clutch stats" (4th quarter or OT, less than 5 min left, game within 5 pts) from 82games.com.

Brandon Roy: Team Win%- 56.7
Passing Rating- 9.5
Ball-Handling Rating- 17.9
Rebounding Rating- 13.8

Ben Gordon: Team Win%- 59
Passing- 3.4
Ball-Handling- 12.3
Rebounding- 9.5

I think this shows that Gordon was having some trouble keeping the ball within his own team's hands at late in games. Also Roy was helping his team more on the boards. Gordon will get you more points at the end but Roy is the better all around player when in crucial situations during a game. He's the player I want.

I thought all the topics were supposed to be Baseball or Football?

October 22, 2007  10:56 PM ET

what is the criteria for this? are you looking for a team for the future or just for one season? or who has been the best so far?

October 22, 2007  10:56 PM ET

Knock you down a peg :-)

October 22, 2007  11:07 PM ET

well Peavyfan, i am pretty sure i know who you are talking about,

and David, i'll do one with you if this one doesn't urn out to be a blowout

and Phillyman, Ben dropped out, and G.O.A.T took his spot. I just agreed to do b-ball, because that is G.O.A.T's best topic and i thought it would be fun to try a b-ball TD

October 22, 2007  11:19 PM ET

i meant 7.1 RPG for Deng

October 22, 2007  11:43 PM ET

I know. Just correcting, it's my thing.

October 23, 2007  12:37 AM ET

I'm shocked that no one's voted yet.

October 23, 2007  12:39 AM ET

Do me a favor and stop pimping Jefferson I have 3 drafts this week and he's my #2 sleeper pick

October 23, 2007  12:39 AM ET

Anyone that doesn't know him by now does not know about basketball.

October 23, 2007  07:49 AM ET

I don't have much time now since I have school but I will finish this later.

October 23, 2007  08:38 AM ET

jefferson is just too good not to be pimped, sorry David

October 23, 2007  03:43 PM ET

Are you guys thinking of Gerald Green being better than Luol Deng? Because he's not better. However, if you are thinking of someone else I don't really know who you're talking about.

October 23, 2007  03:50 PM ET

Is it a problem if I only disagree on two of your guys?

October 23, 2007  04:05 PM ET

More to come.

October 23, 2007  04:07 PM ET

Also, were all of you guys thinking of Andre Iguodala? Because he isn't better than Deng either.

October 23, 2007  04:38 PM ET

G.O.A.T. is correct. The frontcourt is good but Deron Williams is better than CP3 and Brandon Roy is better than Ben Gordon.

'Nuff said.

October 23, 2007  05:23 PM ET

JOSH SMITH. OBVIOUSLY

October 23, 2007  05:24 PM ET

Gerald Green? That says a lot about what you think of me. YOU THINK I'M IGNORANT

October 23, 2007  05:26 PM ET

Haha. No, I wasn't thinking that. But Josh Smith is a little better in rebounds, assists, and blocks while Luol Deng is better in points, FG%, and FT%.
