I thought kershaws 30mill a year was ridiculous..
Then a Japanese pitcher who has never thrown a MLB pitch getting more than 15mill a year was even more ridiculous..
And now homer Bailey getting 17mill a year.. This one takes the cake..
He is mediocre at best and he is getting paid New York money..
At least chapman at $5mill is a steal.. How chapman is getting close to 15mill, I will never know..
Me thinks chapman needs a new agent..
They should get paid in pennies cause they have the easiest job in all of sports..
3. Field goal kickers..
They play 17 seconds a game..
And they are multi millionaires..
And unlike rugby, 90% of their kicks are straight down the middle..
Talk about a sweet life..
The top guys only make a $1mil a year!
It's crazy.. Especially when you consider how much risk they take with their bodies..
Most of them have to go back to the real world and get jobs after they retire..
But how are they suppose to get jobs, when a lot of them don't go to college?
They are totally under prepared for the real world..
And most of them like to party..

Congrats, you got it backasswards
Do you even watch baseball?
1. Pitchers are the most important player on the field at any one time. A great pitcher will dominate a great hitting team. He can elevate even a lousy team to a winning team whenever he is out there. They absolutely deserve their pay.
Do you even watch football?
2. A good punter is a defensive asset. Field position is crucial.
Do you even watch football?
3. Yeah, I don't like kickers much either, but try your team having a bad one. Not much fun.
Anyone in the NFL should be very well paid. The TV networks pay the league 20 bajillion dollars every year, and the players deserve their cut.
And rugby sucks. Some of them actually make $1 million/year? For playing a sport nobody likes? Talk about highwaycrossingfrog robbery
12th guy on the bench in the NBA. He's probably making $5 million a year and he doesn't even play. His only talent is he was just fortunate enough to be born 6'10"
NFL cheerleaders. They make like $3/hour when you break it down. And they can't get fat or have their breasts slouch. I bet keeping your boobs perky could get expensive

30 mill a year???
That's almost as much as the TOTAL Marlins payroll..
Pitchers be cray cray..
I just don't get the market..
And please explain to me chapmans contract..
Go on.. I dare you.. I double dare you..
You can not do it that's why..
Chapman is being grossly underpaid..
Mariano Rivera was getting close to 15mill a year..
Chapman is an elite closer..
He is 17 times better than Bailey homer..
It just doesn't make sense..
That's why I stopped..
Belichick has shown you don't need a big name kicker to succeed..
And you don't need a big name RB to succeed either..
You can find both guys just waking up from one of those crazy frat parties..
And still be effective..
Yes my friend.. You can still get a cheap kicker who will make 95% of his kicks..
You can still get a cheap RB AND run the ball effectively..
They are the 2 easiest spots to fill on the roster..
We know a thing or 2 about kicking the ball..
I'm just surprised more ex rugby players don't become NFL kickers..
The dough is pretty good and 95% of the kicks are straightforward.. Especially compared to rugby kicks, where we have to make conversions from the sidelines..

Chapman gets paid what he gets paid because of a couple of things
1. He signed a contract
2. A thing called the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Chapman has a 6-year $30million contract. He got pretty good money for a guy who had never played a single MLB game nor knew the names of all the teams
He's not eligible for arbitration until 2015. He's not eligible for free agency until 2017. He must follow the same rules that apply to ever other due-paying member of the MLBPA that negotiated and agreed to the CBA. He's only 26, so like Mike Trout, it's only a matter of service time before he gets paid
Make sense now?
Belichick's Kicker? Gostkowski made $2.9M last year. He's the 3rd highest paid K in the league. He's not exactly just leaving it up to some schlep off the street
Kickers and punters average around $860K/year and RB's average $957K. Alot of money for you and me, but by NFL standards pretty modest. They aren't overpaid at all
No one cares about watching rugby. Any money they make at all above $0 they should be thankful for

I still think chapman is the steal of the century..
5mill for an elite closer is freakin awesome..
It's just cray cray that Bailey was the reds 4th best pitcher last year, (behind cueto, latos and arroyo), and now he is getting 17 mill a year?
For being a number 4 guy?
A number 4 guy gets paid 3 times more than one of the elite closers?
A closer with a 100mph fastball..
From a lefty..
From a tough angle cause chapman is sooo tall..
I'm out of ammo..
Plus we have only had one comment..
Peace to your happiness..

Give Chapman a few more years before you call him "elite". He's actually getting paid really well for a player with 3 years of service time accumulated
Bailey certainly got a good contract, although it is quite backloaded, most of the big money comes in later years. But that's the cost it takes to keep a player like that from hitting free agency. If Chapman proves to be a reliable closer for the next 3 years, he's going to be very well rewarded too, and it's deals like Bailey's that will set the precedent for him.
Kickers and punters are the lowest paid players by position in the NFL. They are hardly overpaid. You know who's really underpaid? Tight Ends. There's a good reason Jimmy Graham wants to be tagged as a WR instead of a TE. It's like $5Million difference
You know who else is really underpaid? Like every athlete playing NCAA football. NCAA football makes around a billion dollars in revenue, and no matter how much a school may cheat and give extra benefits, the players are still not making anything near what they are worth to the school
yeah, not many comments. This is apparently not a hot button topic today
