This year, The New England Patriots is one of the greatest teams in recent memory. They are dominant in offense, defense, and coaching.

My answer is no; no one can stop the Patriots this year.

Everything is clicking for Brady and the Pats. Look at the numbers:

OFFENSE:

Total Offense:

1. Patriots - 432.9 yds/gm

30.9 yards over second-best team.

Passing Offense:

1. Patriots - 299.4 yds/gm

25.7 yards over second-best team.

Scoring

39.9 pts/gm

7.5 pts over second-best team. (A full touchdown over any team in the NFL)

DEFENSE

Total Defense:

4. Patriots - 279.8 yds/gm

Passing Defense:

4. Patriots - 182.1 yds/gm

Interceptions:

T1. Patriots - 10 INTs.

And then there's Tom Brady, who is on track for a record-setting season.

27 TDs, 3 INTs.

A 9:1 TD-INT ratio? That's downright amazing. Brady also provides leadership and experience.

Honestly, no team can touch the Patriots right now. I don't think they'll go undefeated, though there's a good possibility they will.

The Patriots are an incredible team. The videotaping scandal proved that they could deal with any off-field distractions that could arise.

The Patriots will win Super Bowl XLII. No team will stop them.

Sorry for the delay.

Someone will stop the Patriots. Look at who they have ahead of them:
Washington
Indianapolis
Buffalo
Philadelphia
Baltimore
Pittsburgh
New York Jets
Miami
New York Jets

They can easily lose one of those games. Washington has been quite surprising this year while the Indy game is probably the easiest game for the Patriots to lose. Buffalo surprised a pretty good Ravens team that also has a shot at the Patriots near the end of the season. Don't rule out Pittsburgh or the Giants in the season finally.

And as for the playoffs, anything can happen. The Chargers were supposed to roll last year. Did they? No.

Happy I made my argument hiya?

I never said they'd go undefeated. But I do see them winning the Super Bowl.

(And that schedule doesn't look that hard, actually. The only tough games I see are Indy, obviously, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh and maybe Washington.)

Last year? Yes, the Chargers were 14-2 and looked to be Super Bowl contenders; but Marty Schottenheimer was known for screwing things up by playing "Marty-ball." And he did kind of screw up.

The same will not happen for the Pats. Belichick, cheater or not, is a fantastic coach. This Patriots dynasty has been one of the best playoff teams in history over the past 6 years. They are known for their playoff ability, especially Brady.

The way I see it, the Patriots will be the victors of Super Bowl XLII.

It appears that the Patriots are unstoppable, but mark my words (not really, but do it anyway), someone will stop them. Every year, people say Indy or New England will be unstoppable, blah blah blah. Well, no one is unstoppable. It is quite likely that the Patriots will be stopped, considering the fact they will potentially have to face the following opponents again in the playoffs or Super Bowl:

San Diego
Dallas
Washington
Indianapolis
Baltimore
Pittsburgh

Facing those teams once during the season is enough, but the fact that New England may have to face one of those teams again after playing them once already, puts them in a position that they will likely be stopped. Playing a team once already, the opponent will already have the matchups figured out and know what they need to do.

A team that is extremely well coached such as Indianapolis or Pittsburgh could use the knowledge from the first matchup and put it to good use in the second time around with possibly a different result.

I'm not understanding what you're saying.

If this throwdown were about the Steelers or Indy winning the SB, wouldn't it also be true that Indy or Pittsburgh will have to face the Patriots again in the playoffs?

And if it were in support of either, couldn't you also say that an extremely well-coached team (like New England) would make adjustments against them?

I'm not saying Pittsburgh and Indianapolis are bad teams. But what you're saying could be applied to any team in the NFL. Any team could face San Diego, Dallas, Washington, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, or the Patriots.

And EVERY team's coach makes adjustments. Bill Belichick is not foolish enough to say, "Well, we beat them last time, so I assume they won't change their strategy." Every coach makes adjustments after playing a team.

What I'm saying is that you can apply your arguments to any team in the NFL with a playoff chance. Every team has to go through good teams to win the Super Bowl. If you're going to argue this, then give me some stats on why the Pats are not the favorites or give a team that you think will win it all and beat the Patriots.

I'm confused as we don't have a definition of "unstoppable."

The Patriots will be stopped. This ain't 1972.

As for Belichick making adjustments, he does not have to make them to the same extent that opposing coaches do. As I stated before, a well-coached team such as the Steelers or Colts could make the needed counter-adjustments to take the Patriots. The Patriots haven't exactly played the best coached teams this year. It is safe to say the best coached team they played was the Jets, and even then, Mangini isn't quite the Man-genius he was a year ago. Billick in Baltimore, Tomlin and LeBeau in Pittsburgh, and Dungy in Indianapolis could counter Belichick in coaching.

As ef pointed out, the Patriots haven't had to run the ball yet this year. Maroney, Morris, and Faulk have not been that impressive. A well coached secondary such as Pittsburgh or Baltimore could counter them well enough to force the Patsies to run it.

I just don't see the Patriots as being unstoppable. They appear unstoppable on paper, but once the dust settles, I don't see them standing victorious in Glendale, Arizona in February 2008.

One word: Indianapolis Colts..............oops! LOL

October 26, 2007  09:16 PM ET

Meh. You're entitled to your opinion, I suppose...

October 26, 2007  09:17 PM ET

And you're entitled to support your favorite team...

At least you claim to be a Cubs fan.

October 26, 2007  09:18 PM ET

I'm talking too much...

October 27, 2007  02:30 PM ET

one injury to tom brady and they're cooked

October 27, 2007  02:52 PM ET

One injury to Peyton Manning and Indy is cooked.
One injury to Brett Favre and Pack is cooked.
One injury to Romo and Dallas is cooked.
One injury to Eli Manning and Giants are cooked.

Shall I go on? Why state the obvious ?

October 27, 2007  02:58 PM ET

Indy and the Pats each have three possible losses on their schedule.

1. The most obvious and enevitable - one will lose when they play.
2. Indy will have a tough game with the Jags, especially if the Jags come in healthy.
3. Indy has 3 physical games right before they travel to San Diego - S.D. will pose a big hurdle at home for Indy.
4. The Pats play the Ravens in Baltimore in December. Regardless of the rRvens record at that time, Baltimore will be sky high to knock off the Pats.
5. If the Pats have locked up home field advantage, then their last game with the Giants will be a test, especially if NY is fighting for a playoff spot.

The Pats will get exposed against the STEELERS!!! (or colts)

Lets think about this. The weather will be cold and snowy taking the passing attack out of the game. The Pats have established little to know running game. Who do you think is going to better control the game Willie Parker or Maroney? Come on now.

Im not saying the only possibilty is the Steelers. Any given Sunday. The Pats will face a huge struggle when Brady litterally cant pass. The snow will be way too heavy to even attempt.

Too early to decide this since they have had a cupcake schedule in the pass defense area. So far Brady has played 5 of the bottom 6 ranked pass defenses.
coming into last Sunday the Steelers were ranked 1st in points per game allowed, 2nd in total yards allowed, 2nd in rush defense and 4th in the pass. So, yes I think the Steelers will tear them down.

The Pats stats are misleading, so dont look them up. They run the score up.
They were up 10 with 51 seconds left in the 4th quarter and on 4th down they threw for the end-zone? PADDING STATS!
Peyton is the best QB PERIOD!

Take away the pass from the Pats and they got NOTHING
Im going to take this piece by piece.

"But they have to be able to stop the run ."

Dude, no one runs on the Steelers. NO ONE! We have one of the best rush defenses in the league. Ranked 3rd in yards given up per game with 75.5.

"and the defensive backs have to cover Randy Moss,Wes Welker,Ben Watson and Donte Stallworth."

No, acctually we will have to stop Brady. And, we are getting a LOT of help with the weather conditions. Take Brady out of the game, and you beat the Pats. My main argument is whether it will snow hard enough to throw off Brady. Usually the heavy weather affects it. Take this too, Brady has played 5 of the bottom 6 pass defenses in the league and from here on out he plays the Ravens and Steelers. It only gets tougher.

"but Lawyrence Maroney is going to tear up the defense."

Maroney sucks. Reason why the Pats dont run; they cant. Simple as that. Until they prove that they can controll the game with both the RUSH and the PASS, they are'nt going any where.

"The Pats also have a great defense,it will be a close game but the Pats will come out on top."

True, the Pats have a great defense, but look at who theyve played so far.
Jets
Chargers
Bil Bills
Bengals
Browns
Cowboys
Dolphins
The only real O they have played this year, they gave up 27 points.

October 28, 2007  12:08 PM ET

Wait, who are you quoting, ef?

I didn't say any of that.

October 28, 2007  12:09 PM ET

I know I took that from my last TD. Sorry about that.

October 28, 2007  12:21 PM ET

denver is the only team that can stop them. haha, thats my bias. but chrono is right

October 28, 2007  04:38 PM ET

Well, DJ, I said in my first argument that I don't think the Pats will go undefeated. I thought I made it clear enough that "will not be stopped" meant that no one would stop them from the ultimate goal: a Super Bowl victory.

October 28, 2007  04:40 PM ET

Maybe I should have read that.

October 28, 2007  05:54 PM ET

efbasketball5, snow improves the game for passing. It doesn't allow the team to throw the ball down the field, but it does benefit a short passing attack. What happens is that the defensive backs start to slip and they can't stay with the wide receivers on the quick ins, quick outs, quick slants, etc. As we have seen, the Patriots can throw the ball downfield as well as they throw the ball short. Another thing, contrary to popular belief, the Patriots can run the ball too and Josh McDaniels stays balanced in his playcalling. They're pass to run ratio is generally 50-50, the one exception was when the Patriots played Dallas.

October 28, 2007  06:02 PM ET

I think you can scratch Washington off the lost of teams possibly beating the Pats

October 28, 2007  06:10 PM ET

miamis gona pull the upset

October 28, 2007  06:12 PM ET

Also, efbasketball5, you said the Patriots defense hasn't really played any good offenses, not true. They've played Dallas, Cleveland, and the Chargers. They gave up 27 to Dallas, 7 of which came off a defensive score, they gave up 17 to Cleveland, and they gave up 14 to the Chargers.

October 28, 2007  06:27 PM ET

The team that will stop the Patriots will be the Colts. Let's remember the Colts are the defending Super Bowl champions. They have not lost a game since Week 16 of last year against the Texans. And let's not forget the Colts have won the last 3 meetings agaisnt the Patriots including last year's AFC Championship game in Indianapolis. And one more thing, in my own opinion, the Colts are the only team that can stood toe to toe with the Patriots.

38-0 against one of the best teams in the NFC right now...Tom Brady's picked apart the No.1 pass defense in the league going into this game...they really do look unstoppable.
