Dude barely got a sniff of carries in his years at North Carolina.

Has taken over where Jerome Bettis left off as the Steelers continue to dominate as a league leader in rushing.

Great out of the backfield on swing passes or screen passes.

All-time record holder for longest TD run in NFL history-75 yards against Seattle in Superbowl XL.

Despite NOBODY respecting Big Ben as a legitimate passer last year(23 picks, worst in NFL), Parker still cruised to well over 1,200 yards.

Parker is a very legitimate candidate to win this years rushing title(600 yards in seven games-39 yards behind McGahee who is in a one dimensional offense, and 2 yards behind Ronnie Brown who is seriously injured right now)

That's a great pick. This will be a tough TD for me...

Anyway, I'm gonna go with Marques Colston out of my (former) "alma mater" (one year) Hofstra. Obviously, Hempstead isn't in the spotlight for football, but rather lacrosse.

Colston is a great talent and should've won ROY last year with 1,038 yards on 70 receptions (14.8/catch) with 8 TDs in only 14 games. This year, he's first on his team in recieving with 263 yards and 2 touchdowns. While that's not too, great, he's definitely the bright spot in an otherwise anemic offense.

Before last year, no one even knew who Marques Colston was (my roommate at the time and I saw him on the scouting combine and didn't know who he was) and now he's a top young WR. While this year is a step "backwards" for him, it is definitely due to the overall decline of the Saints' offense.

In the big picture of the NFL spectrum, just as far as value to the team goes, Willie Parker makes a HUGE impact on his team offensively every week.

Colston has disappering acts in games frequently and has been dropping passes this year like f bombs. This year's Marques Colston is a shadow of the guy we saw last year. Plus a WR is never as valuable as a stud RB, never.

I dont even think Colston is the best WR pick here. What about Wes Welker of the Patriots? How did he do in college?

This year's Drew Brees is also a shadow of the guy we saw last year so that definitely contributes to the entire Saints' offense being pretty crappy. If Brees were up to last year's level, the whole offense would be.

Colston is still contributing a good portion of his team's (low) total offenense. Obviously, overall a RB is more important but on a team by team basis, it differs. For the Saints, he is as big a part of the game as Parker is for the Steelers.

Drew Brees is only a shadow because of two things:

His best receivers are Colston and Devry Henderson, both of whom forgot how to catch passes somehow in the offseason, and most recently because he lost his only legitimate every down threat as a rusher, Duece McCallister.

Bush is nice, but he is a HB not an RB.

I adore your new pic Cass - welcome back hun.

Yeah but what is your opinion of who is the best no-name college player turned stud in the NFL, Larry B?

October 25, 2007  10:41 AM ET

Big in the NFL and small in college --- Well he may not have been the smallest in College, but becasue of the sheer magnitude of his greatness in the NFL, I think the total gap traveled between the two measurements has to be embodied in the 6 round pick out of Michigan - their part tiime qb, tHOMAS bRADY.

October 25, 2007  10:43 AM ET

Brady was a legit starter in college, Parker never was.

October 25, 2007  10:46 AM ET

Agreed but he went in the 6th round of the draft--- and from that lowly spot he will climb to become one of the top 5 greatest QB's of all time -- that is quite a distance to travel. Technically Brady does not qualify for this TD - but as a Pats homer - I just needed to give him some press today. CIAO

crap, it posted twice. sorry about that. i'm gonna lose anyway.

October 25, 2007  10:57 AM ET

Larry B, the issue on this TD is not Brady, but Parker vs Colston, FYI.

October 25, 2007  11:07 AM ET

kurt warner, antonio gates?

October 25, 2007  11:08 AM ET

priest holmes? any of these would've been better than Colston

October 25, 2007  11:08 AM ET

how in the hell am i losing by only one...? jesus you people are being nice to me today...

October 25, 2007  11:14 AM ET

Hmmm, i would say Priest Holmes!! From Texas, undrafted....went to do great things with KC... BUT....couple of reasons why Willie Parker may be that guy soon.
1) Priest wasn't drafted but he was well known, it was a knee injury that scared teams off.
2) Willie's young and healthy, he's going to play for many years to come.

Vote goes to CE

Consider where Warner is today(washed up, only one ring like Parker but Willie is still going strong) and Antonio Gates is a TE, not half the impact that a RB makes to an offense, you are not being realistic Wbcincy.
You cant say Priest Holmes will have had a better career when all is said and down as Holmes suffered a neck injury that has held his career back. At this pace, Willie Parker will pass Holmes in rushing yards when he retires.

October 25, 2007  11:26 AM ET

Willie Parker, no doubt.

October 25, 2007  11:36 AM ET

I believe Colston would get more press if people went to Saints games to see him but he will constantly be in Bush's shadow. However the Saints feel good enough about him to let Horn go. Either way Parker end his career with more rings, more pro bowls, and better stats for position if they both stay healthy. Just remember, Rick Mirer was drafted ahead of Drew Bledsoe, Ryan Leaf was drafted ahead of Peyton Manning, and Montana was a 7th round pick. nobody knows what they're getting in April.

Yeah, he is a physical specimen, but so is Michael Pittman, so it doesnt always translate into NFL greatness.

October 25, 2007  12:43 PM ET

It is Parker. He never did get a chance at North Carolina because of their power running scheme, he gets on to the Steelers team because one of the Rooney's saw him play in high school and now he is lighting it up as their running back.

Colston is a good story as well...but Parker's is a bit better.
